How to Study Astrology

Hi everyone!
I'm new here, so excuse if this question has already popped up on another thread. I am new to astrology and am interested in knowing the best approach to study it?

When looking at my natal chart, should I investigate each planet and its position on its own first and then add to it the aspects?

Also, where can I find a software or online website where I can get the positions and house of the astriods including Eros/Psyche?

Thanks!

Re: How to Study Astrology

The challenge I'm having is that I don't know if I should have a thorough understanding of a planet and its aspects first before moving on to a study of another planet, or if I should look at all the planets and their placements first before considering their respective aspects.

The "Big Picture" is first then the individual planets--rather like wanting to know someone because of their whole impression on you rather than the size of their nose or their taste in music...

Re: How to Study Astrology

I might recommend a good first astrology book: Steven Forrest, The Inner Sky. He deals with planets, signs, houses, and aspects, but takes a very dynamic approach to them, rather than suggesting that the reader simply memorize a list of attributes. Hopefully you can find it at your nearest metaphysical book store, or via a large Internet book seller.

Oh, and don't forget moderator Tim Wilson's own website!

I suggest learning how to look at the astrological CHART as a whole. Then, once you understand the easily identifiable things in the CHART, then you can start to look at the details. This is the opposite of what most people are taught when learning astrology, but I find it an easier way to learn since the first few steps do not require any astrological knowledge at all! As waybread mentioned, you can find this different approach to astrology at the website in the link below this post.

Differently,

Tim
