9th house and the ultimate meaning of your destiny and purpose

Wondering about the meanings of this house. I think I just got why it represents the Sun and all of the higher knowledge. Think of the 9th house as a warm and happy part of your life where you feel like you've discovered something great. It's the part where you get blessed with knowing life's highest of meanings. Everything is seen from an optimistic point of view here (in its natural meaning, at least). Probably a house that is the opposite of being depressed. It's the house of vitality, of satisfaction with what one's got but at the same time, the need for more experiences. Wouldn't you love to travel and discover an unknown paradise? This is what the 9th asks.

Just like these meanings pertain to the house that goes before the 10th, the house also represents life's ultimate moral laws. It's the house of ethics, the house of justice as a heartfelt need. It's the need for philosophy and for love and warmth to be a part of the world, a point where we all are equal, but never dictated in a cold manner. In the Bible we can see how God ultimately represents the laws of the universe and integrity. Some online texts tell you that God doesn't solve wars and crimes because the set of laws he represents include human race learning about the 10 commandments (laws, philosophy) in order to make the world a better place. If war was solved instantly, nobody would have learned anything, nobody would've reached this 9th house place. Only if you do things with an unbreakable will can you truly learn about what truly shines and what doesn't in this world, and what your mission and life destiny is here on Earth.

This is why, in my opinion, the 9th house is traditionally seen as the house of God and why the Sun rejoices here. The Sun is about intention and unbreakable will, and when you mix in intention with honesty and philosophy, the result is the need to become somebody that's honest, benevolent, warm and important (but never in a selfish way). And some people might think that the 10th house is a better place for the Sun, but it does not rejoice in that house. This is because the unbreakable will of a Sun only finds purpose and knowledge in the 9th, the house that tells us to do what's correct and beneficial, so the energy of the Sun is expressed more naturally in the 9th, while in the 10th, while accidentally more powerful, may give the Sun the power to carry out their intentions, whether bad or good, originated from impulsive lust, from malevolence or selfishness, etc. The Sun also reminds me of protagonists and main characters (in their traditional sense). They're the ones who differentiate good from bad and stand out from everyone else by choosing good and rooting for it, even if it costs them their lives.

In its best state, the 9th house delivers the native knowledge and laws of the universe that may free them from all worries and anxiety. Everything is seen from great perspective, and with Jupiter, Saturn or Sun the right path opens in front of the native; everything is seen clearly (although Saturn here gives a clear perspective based on what Saturn represents i.e restriction, limits, hard truths, etc.). Moon in here highlights emotional attachment to these truths, while Mercury may change their views constantly if the chart also confirms this. This house is internally processed as a place of the ideal. The actions coming from this house are glorified and valued. This also relates to some other traditional meanings of the Sun, such as it being represented by gold (an element which is very resistant to corrosion and damage, a true analogy to the Sun never being evil, never being a planet that gives in to corruption and wrongness of heart).

In its worst state, it can give metaphorical nearsightedness and an inflated ego as a result of these views. It creates individuals who may try to change these truths and use them to their advantage, but I believe planets here are never too bad. Also, it is a cadent house since it rules ideas and thoughts, but not actions. This is why there's a problem with the power of this house. Only a planet in a good condition (in essential dignities, mainly) can rule over the native's life and actions.

You've written a lovely, poetic essay.

The sun joys in the 9th. Anciently this was Apollo. He was not the original Greek/Roman sun god, but Apollo was the god of prophecy. In traditional astrology, this is a minor dignity. Probably the MC is the point most symbolizing one's calling in life.

The 9th house is about expanding one's mental horizons.

Thank you so much for your kind words, waybread!

I see the MC as the future of a person and how they see themselves in relation to the highest matters of life. The MC talks about the perception of the native's goals and position. While the IC is focused on one's origin and fixed values that are within the inner-most part of a person, the midheaven is the set of values that come from possibility and from self-esteem, rather from something such as the family and roots. With the Sun in the 10th house, the native's intention and unbreakable willpower is related to one's calling in life, right? One has preset values (4th house) and one psychologically creates other values which have to be proved and achieved, but you know that they're a part of you, hence why you go for them. A Sun is accidentally stronger in the 10th beacause it becomes a crucial part of your identity, as a natural result to the existence of your 4th. However, even though a planet's house joy is lesser of a dignity, I still believe the Sun is able to express, even if in lower quantity, more naturally its energy in the 9th house.

What would Jupiter do in the 10th? The values that the person attributes to themselves as a result of their inner-most identity (4th house) are viewed as achievable and, generally, these people have enough knowledge and experience to know how to obtain what they want. Truly this open-mindedness and wisdom leads to people being successful. Saturn on the other hand would, much unlike Jupiter, make people assume that these goals won't be obtained just because they want to, and will generally think that just being wise or knowing what to do isn't enough, so they will try to measure their limits and options when trying to achieve a goal. Sometimes, people with Saturn in the 10th may not feel like they are going to achieve these goals at first, because they know they're like anybody else and, as we know, most people don't achieve every goal they want to accomplish, but it is by this reason why people with Saturn in the 10th are not like everybody else. It also indicates longevity, will to work and will to live, experience, wisdom based on facts and trial and error, etc.
