Re: Playlist of the Week(music)

This has such a long title (If it’s the actual entirety of the title itself) I love it and it’s melody I looked up what " Ah, ch'infelice sempre" and it means “Who is always happy”. That’s so funny

Antonio Vivaldi - Cantate "Cessate, omai cessate" - " Ah, ch'infelice sempre": https://youtu.be/Z39KxbbtCC0

Made me think of Neptune in Virginia Beach Virginia:

As I vaguely recall now, the plaque said the artist was from Va. Beach, and the mould was sent to China to finish after being sculpted and came back to Va. from overseas.....Neptune the god of the deeper oceans.

Re: Playlist of the Week(music)

I know that I posted this before...years ago... the band is now defunct, but their spirit does certainly live on. It was comprised, in the 00's, of musicians assembled from the student body at the college I attended nearly 50 years ago.
I so love their unique sound, an album played continuously puts me in such a mellow mood... even the songs of righteous indignation and protest... just like the Prince of Peace, himself, employed, the best offense, or defense, is one based in the concept of Ideal Love.

Re: Playlist of the Week(music)

I recall when Paul Simon made his transition to African beat music with African natives onstage singing & dancing - The ticket holders (thousands of them) at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Maryland walked out and demanded their money back!
But it kind of "grew on us" after a while.

Give it a chance, (after the Intro to the song, it gets groovy & creative)...

Gotta love Paul Simon:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uq-g...APdGTP43OHO-vc

The original music: Quite creative actually, but took time to get used to, that THIS was the "new" Paul Simon without Garfunkel.

"Diamonds on the sole of her feet"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fmf9ZJ_Yn0A

Lyrics

(A-wa) O kodwa u zo-nge li-sa namhlange
(A-wa a-wa) Si-bona kwenze ka kanjani
(A-wa a-wa) Amanto mbazane ayeza
She's a rich girl
She don't try to hide it
Diamonds on the soles of her shoes
He's a poor boy
Empty as a pocket
Empty as a pocket with nothing to lose
Sing Ta na na
Ta na na na
She got diamonds on the soles of her shoes
She got diamonds on the soles of her shoes
Diamonds on the soles of her shoes
Diamonds on the soles of her shoes
People say she's crazy
She got diamonds on the soles of her shoes
Well that's one way to lose these
Walking blues
Diamonds on the soles of her shoes
She was physically forgotten
Then she slipped into my pocket
With my car keys
She said you've taken me for granted
Because I please you
Wearing these diamonds
And I could say Oo oo oo
As if everybody knows
What I'm talking about
As if everybody would know
Exactly what I was talking about
Talking about diamonds on the soles of her shoes
She makes the sign of a teaspoon
He makes the sign of a wave
The poor boy changes clothes
And puts on after-shave
To compensate for his ordinary shoes
And she said honey take me dancing
But they ended up by sleeping
In a doorway
By the bodegas and the lights on
Upper Broadway
Wearing diamonds on the soles of their shoes
And I could say Oo oo oo
As if everybody here would know
What I was talking about
I mean everybody here would know exactly
What I was talking about
Talking about diamonds
People say I'm crazy
I got diamonds on the soles of my shoes
Well that's one way to lose
These walking blues
Diamonds on the soles of your shoes

Songwriters: Paul Simon, Dp, Bekizizwe Joseph Shabalala

From the album "In the Rhythm of the Saints" Great name. Great album. It gets a lot of air time at my house.

I have 14 of his cd's. This one, by far is my favorite. but then, One Trick Pony is a close second. The man is brilliant. I know every delectable note, it is so uplifting. Thanks!

Re: Playlist of the Week(music)

Opal: I'm sure you've heard the ballads of Woody Guthrie which is folk music and have been sung by younger folk artists ever since Woody penned them in the 40s - 1950s:

"This Land is Your Land" a favorite and big hit:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxiM...ature=emb_logo

This song he wrote but never published. It was published and put to his music after his death by his estate and heirs. In particular, his grand-niece I believe was a musician with the group. -

The way I heard it or read, was that the music and lyrics were found in a dusty attic owned by Woody:

"Old Man Trump" aka "Beech Haven aint my Home no more"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jANuVKeYezs

Background:
In December 1950, Woody Guthrie moved to an apartment building in Brooklyn – Beach Haven Apartments. His landlord: Fred Trump, father of Donald Trump. Woody Guthrie wrote these lyrics in 1951, and 65 years later, the Missin' Cousins, a County-Western music group from Oakland California, present a recording of these new lyrics to I Ain't Got No Home in this World Anymore.

To read the fascinating story about where these lost Woody Guthrie lyrics about Old Man Trump came from, see this article by Woody Guthrie scholar professor Will Kaufman: https://theconversation.com/woody-gut...

Re: Playlist of the Week(music)

See prior post for background:

In 2009 Folk Singer Pete Seeger turned 90. For his birthday, many people got together including "the boss" Bruce Springsteen
doing Woody Guthrie's "This Land is My Land, This Land is Your Land"

in Washington DC in front of the Lincoln Memorial with a young folks chorus and the Annapolis Naval Academy Orchestra: (see President Obama in the massive audience)

Re: Playlist of the Week(music)

Looks like Pete Seeger died in 2014 at age 94. But he sure appeared to be in great shape, (even jogging off stage) in May of 2009 at his birthday celebratory night shown in prior post -

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pete_Seeger

I had no idea he wrote most of my favorite songs!!

I also loved the Weavers, his original group he belonged to -

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Weavers

Here they are singing "Goodnight Irene":
