Any tips or tricks to getting my head around aspects?

Hi lovely astrologers. I am very much a beginner learning astrology, I have found it really easy to get my head around most things and understand what I am looking at but I just canít grasp or remember aspects. It feels mathematical to me and I am terrible with that side of my brain. I was wondering if there were any tips that made it easier for you to learn and grasp?

Thanks for your help

Re: Any tips or tricks to getting my head around aspects?

wolf,

Think of aspects as either "easy" or "hard" connections between planetary energies. Sextiles and trines are "easy" while conjunctions, squares and oppositions are "hard". "Easy" connections make things easy so they don't require much effort for the person to use those connections. Too many "easy" connections and a person can get lazy. "Hard" connections create challenges and force the person to face challenges in their life. Too many "hard" connections can make life VERY difficult for a person.

There are other aspects, but focusing on these five will make a chart's energy connections MUCH easier to understand.

The hard and easy of it,

Tim

Traditionally

trine is most favourable aspect
has ability to facilitate agreement between planets
enables them to respond sympathetically to each other.
Whether the result is beneficial or not
depends entirely upon the planets involved and what they represent
- the destructive qualities of
a malefic Saturn harmonising with violent energies of a debilitated Mars
may produce an influence that brings forth calamitous events.

The square was only taken as unquestionably damaging when
a malefic or unfortunate planet was involved
though many texts speak of the need for reception
or some other form of familiarity
for there to be a positive influence.
Illustrations of the so-called 'bad' aspects

being interpreted positively
are found throughout the ancient text of Dorotheus of Sidon.
Dorotheus reminds us that the nature of the aspectual relationship
depends upon principally the strength, nature
and overall condition of the planets involved.
A trine from Jupiter to Venus might indicate fame, he warns
but if Venus is afflicted it will be a notorious infamy
caused through disgraceful relationships.
Similarly, a square aspect will not harm if
both planets are well placed, dignified
and receive each other amicably.
