Can anyone recommend some easy reader books for the illiterate?

Yes - there will be many opportunities for discussion and talk. Maybe start by checking out the "read my chart" sections - it's a great place to start and you can offer what you know or ask what you don't.

Good luck and enjoy

For starting out in traditional astrology, I don't remember what books people recommend, but among them that I personally wanted to buy was "On the Heavenly Spheres" by Helena Avelar et al (http://www.amazon.com/On-Heavenly-S..._UL160_SR116,160_&refRID=1DN0X2NEM1DA0NM1ET13). Another book called "Introductions to Traditional Astrology" caught my attention while I was searching through google (http://www.bendykes.com/ita.php).

For starting out in horary astrology, William Lilly's work is a classic (Christian Astrology). Though, it may be a bit daunting to read his books from the get-go. Check out Christopher Warnock's site for some free material on Lilly: http://www.renaissanceastrology.com/lilly.html
