transits to look for: sports

my son is young, and has a long future ahead with sport - possibly just as a recreational sports player, but I am not the only one to see that there is potential for him to be playing more seriously in the future.

I've read a little about Mars in the 12th House, and I understand that there is a higher percentage of professional sports people (compared to the general population) who have Mars in the 12th House. I also understand that having this placement in no way indicates that he 'will' become a professional in sport.

I have consulted Rex Bills' Rulership Book:
- Competitive Sport: Mars
- Sports people (sporting goods, equipment, dealers & manufactures): Jupiter & Sagittarius.
- Sports (sporting events, sports arenas, stadiums, sports clubs & associations): 5H, Sun, Leo.

I am not sure that any of these listings in the Rulership book help me with looking for transits regarding my son and his sport.

My question is -
What transits could I look for in his future chart to indicate when there are times for advancement in his sport??
e.g. if he has a tournament coming up - what can I look for in his transits to give any guidance from astrology?
e.g. if he is offered a new opportunity with a new coach - what can I look for in his transits about if this is a good time to change coaches
e.g. if/when he gets to the point that he needs to narrow down which sports to specialise in, what indications can I look for that offer insights into making decisions about what sport to get personal trainers/coaches in, and which sports to let go

I am attaching my son's natal chart (using Solar Fire), in case anyone finds it helpful to use examples in a reply - however I am asking a general question about transits & predictive astrology, and I am not requesting for my son's chart to be interpreted.

thank you for your help

I can of course, only answer from how I would deal with it as I approach astrology ... I'll ignore certain factors which aren't widely used in western astrology.

As he's a kid, 10th house transits of any kind have the potential to be potentially significant if he gets seriously involved in sports, since they will often involve a level of recognition in their life, especially if he is engaged in a school team etc. Advancement etc can be indicated there (naturally also if he were to ever get involved professionally).

For tournaments/competitions of any kind, transits involving the 3rd house, 3rd house lord (Jupiter in this case), Mars and any "self" factors, such as 1st lord (Venus) and Sun.

For coaches, look for nice involvements of 9th house, 9th Lord and Jupiter along with aforementioned self factors.

As to specific sports, I would just look at his self factors (Sun, Ascendant lord Venus etc) and their signs/house involvement. You could probably also look at 3rd house sign and Lord...but that may be getting a bit much.

As an aside I'm not sure why Sun is given rulership over sports arenas etc. 5th house I agree with. But sports clubs, associations, stadiums and so on I would generally give to Mercury in most cases...though perhaps not all.

Also, due to his Venus state (in fall) I would be careful to make sure he gets proper amounts of time for recuperation, proper food etc if he involves in any strenuous training...more than average.

thank you for your reply, Rawiri.

Your note about food is very true - we have to be aware of when he eats in relation to when he plays sport, how much water he drinks and when etc.

Some thoughts that came to me in reading your post...
I think it is interesting that the ruler of his 10H is the Moon - and that the Moon is (exactly to the minute) cnj his Mars.

I am still trying to get my head around ways that the emotional moon being the ruler of his 10H but also exactly cng his sporty Mars manifests in him. But maybe he's just too young yet, and he's not had enough life experiences for this to be very obvious.

I assume that with Sun in 10H he may have times where his is in the spotlight. But it's interesting that this Sun is sxt both sporty-Mars, and sxt emotional / 10H-ruling Moon. It'll be interesting to see how this might manifest in his life as he gets older.

That exact conjunction is very interesting.

I think you are probably correct that he is still a bit too young to have seen exactly how that will play out in his life and attitudes.

A glimpse of it will probably be seen shortly before he turns 13. (Distance from ascendant to the conjunction)
