Neptune Square Sun

Well put EJ, and it can be considered quite an achievement if you can indeed "go with the flow", moving from the unconscious (Nep) to the conscious self (Sun), as the square can prove to be a challenge, and this is a looong transit. That said Phosphorboreas, 'forewarned is forearmed', so, do anything, only don't let yourself (Sun) be too 'mistified' by that Neptunian fog; in other words, don't dwell on it, rather, as Bob puts it "get out and do things".

I have to smile a bit as I am reading this, because I was born with Neptune conjunct my Sun and Moon. My whole life has been about moving from the "unconscious" to the conscious. :)

I think it is different if you are born with a certain aspect, and spend your life living it, as then the aspect is part of your being. A transit, however, is something you need to 'learn' to deal with for a certain span of time, and is a force from the outside (esp transits of outer planets) that influences your being.

Of course, but it isn't possible that we may be sensitized as to how to deal with a particular transit if our charts show that we are likely to have spent a lifetime with similar issue? ;)

More than any other planet, Neptune teaches us to "go with the flow" of life and to trust our intuition/"inner voice", but we have to listen carefully to it's lessons -

This does not only apply to Neptune, it applies to any very difficult longlasting transit over sensitive points. With squares in particular, dont try to swim against the tide, just see where the water will bring you.

About the natal aspects like Gaer mentioned, it probably is even more difficult to handle, because when that Sun-Moon-Neptune conjunction Gaer is writing about is triggered by Neptune it becomes like a double wammy!! whereas with the temporary confusion one experiences over a certain time period, one can somehow counterbalance it with other, more earthy (rational) aspects in the chart.

I have had Neptune opposing my Leo planet & squaring my ascendant. When it squared my ascendant a whole lot of big family changes started & I didnt have the resources to handle them as I had wasted my energies . Like if i was a terrier dawg I had wasted my enegies chasing cars or barking at posties and when the big one came along I didnt have the resources. So felt very stessed out indeed. Now I am making lots of changes including lifestyle changes , what I eat, how I use my energies etc. Its two steps forward & one back tho coz assoon as you make ground the old you jumps in & starts wasting the energy then you say whoah back then you go forward etc etc
But its improving. Some days I feel better than I have for years and some days I feel not so good but I review then go forward.

I really like starlink's advice: "With squares in particular, dont try to swim against the tide, just see where the water will bring you."

I do feel transits go better if one plans for them, and develops some pro-active strategies. To extend her metaphor, if a swimmer is caught in an undertow or a rip tide, s/he is warned not to fight the tide, but to swim with it until out of its reach. Or better yet, to think through where and when one swims before plunging in.

Yet sometimes we just can't beat the system, and I don't think life is always meant to be all nicey-nice. Then I think learning from an difficult experience that ideally should make one truer to one's identity is called for.

I sometimes think that someone born with a difficult aspect, if s/he is at all self-aware, has an easier time later in life than someone who doesn't have that aspect. Someone born with Neptune in aspect to the sun knows Neptune, as s/he has had to deal with it ongoingly and has developed some survival strategies. Ideally, these are the positives, not the drugs/alcohol route. Someone who hasn't really had to address Neptune and doesn't understand it, I think, is more liable to be defenseless under a difficult transit.

I once read a chart for someone who had the most carefree-chart imagineable: no oppositions or squares, and lots of trines/sextiles and conjunctions. She really had a tough time [when she requested a chart reading] during her first big slug of compound major difficult transits. It was as though she had no anti-bodies against difficult times.

I don't see how you can learn otherwise. You need some challenges, even some hardships and sorrows once in a while to really learn and appreciate life and make you a little wiser.

Someone else said that they have this aspect natally - me too! It's very, um, confusing to say the least and can cause you to be distrustful and suspiscious from being deceived so many times. But I say that with Neptune in Scorpio in the 7th squaring my Leo Sun in the 4th, which also squares my Taurus rising. Fun, fun, fun. Except, not.

Hi All,

Ok, I see many examples here of what happened - but did anyone learn about themselves/their lives as a result.
EJ:)

Nope. Didnt learn a darn thing. Well at the time that is. Problem was Neptune sq sun happened before my saturn return. What is weird is how my nep sq sun affected me. For months I had been feeling like something was wrong. Just so terribly wrong. I honestly thought I was losing my mind. I remember telling my husband..."I think im having a nervous breakdown". One day I started crying and I just couldnt stop. I was in a shopping center at the time with three under five yr olds and I just couldnt stop crying. Someone called the police, who called my husband and I was carted off to the funny farm. Turns out my thyroid gland had stopped producing thyroxine some months prior to this and basically I had gone into hypothyroid crisis. I was relieve to know I wasnt potty but neptune wasnt finished with me. My husband left me which at the time was extraordinarily catastrophic and as the neptune sq finished my saturn return began.
In hindsight i have to wonder if the nep sq sun transit wasnt more about destroying illusions rather than creating them. My ex- husband was deceptive, my marriage an illusion and the life i was trying to create, a fantasy. I desperately needed a good dose of reality and to be rid of those things in my life that kept me blind and thanks to neptune...i got just that.:D

Exactly! Its like a spoilt child who is being told 'no' for the first time. They think the world has come to an end. God bless squares and the process of refinement they bring.:sunny:

Hi Red,

Me too - although I'd say "exposing" rather than destroying. Neptune seems to alert us (by feelings of confusion, etc) when we are on the wrong path -or inspire us when we are not. And, knowing that a difficult transit is really "a guiding hand" might help us to get through it more easily.

Good choice of words there. I actually look forward to transits these days, although i may live to eat my words this time next year as uranus proceeds to transit my nicely crowded first house. When I look at where i was emotionally, psychologically and spiritually ten years ago I am still amazed. I have gone from an emotionally dependant, insecure drama junkie who had such extreme social phobia that I wouldnt even open my mail or answer the phone to a genuinely happy confident woman and my journey is far from over. Im excited about transforming other areas in my life that I have neglected and becoming the woman I was always meant to be.

I have Neptune square sun in my chart and since i started studying astrology i have gained a new awareness that i didn't have before. One thing i noticed is that my past few potential love interests entered the scene when the sun was negatively aspecting Neptune. But fortunately because of my intuition(when i listen to it) and a little knowledge of astrology, i was able to make smart decisions and pass on these individuals before anything ever began. I am getting really good at walking away from bad situations and i'm also realizing what i really need/want in a relationship and unconscious factors that have brought these people to me. The t.sun will be squaring t.Neptune shortly and i am dreading this because i will probably be tested yet again because there are numerous love indicators in effect at the same time. It's got me worried! Nothing ***** more than having a bunch of great love aspects and then one really ugly one that you can't ignore!

Now I'm afraid. I have Sun, Mercury and Venus in Pisces, Sun and Venus is in the 12th house. I can relate to many descriptions here - particularly about being afraid for no reason, having a feeling that something bad is going to happen, being prone to illusion and low mood. I don't even want to think what is going to happen when Neptune goes over my Pisces planets within a few years. Seriously, what are those totally-piscean people meant to do?

I am experiencing this transit at present and it's really bad. My Sun is at 0.57 Sagittarius so it will be going on for quite a while. I feel completely lost in all aspects of my life - job, relationship and friends. I have never been a particularly planning individual but with this transit I cannot plan even the smallest step forward. I've never felt more directionless in my life and often feel without any sense of security.

It's interesting that I have also came into contact with some of my past loves but really feel nothing productive with spring from there. Curiously enough one of them has Sun at 0.55 Gemini so he is experiencing the same transit right now. It turned out we both experience pain in the heart and sometimes even panic attacks. I thought that Sun rules the heart so these might be connected.

I cannot say I experience any deception by others which might mean I am simply not aware of it and will be when the transit passes. (Which is actually the worse option of the two.) At work I was "deceived" to do something indecent which was presented as a "favour" to my boss though. But I have a problem saying no so I would not put it down to the transit. Or maybe it was the transit trying to make me learn to turn opportunities down if an obvious deception is involved.

Based on all I've read, it seems I have to turn to the higher vibration of Neptune. I am starting to practice some meditation techniques which seem to alleviate the problems a bit. I also noticed I watch movies more (fantasy, dream worlds) and experience more vivid dreams. I also have the strange urge to be read fairy tales (again fantasy) although I am already 24. I have also almost completely lost my sex drive which is quite untypical of me. I figure it might have to do with my natal Sun being in the 8th house. Maybe the 8th house would also explain why I fear death so much. But the sex drive is an interesting issue as Neptune was conjunct my Mars at 28 degrees Aquarius up until soon. My sex drive did decrease but not to the devastatingly low levels it now has. I also tended to feel more depressed under the Mars conjunction than now with the square. Possibly Neptune was blocking all of my actions (Mars) letting me dwell on my misery. Maybe I should have paid more attention to the conjunction and engaged in Neptunian actions, say, meditation and volunteer work for the underprivileged. They say it's good when you feel depressed to go work for those less fortunate than you and that it alleviates the depression. I never did that and feel somewhat sorry now.

I also expect engaging in creativity (Sun) would help and in my case the Sun is also the ruler of the 5th house. I have also started noticing the children around me more and the shadow of a wish to have one has been playfully popping from behind the corner of my room with hidden desires. But at this point I am really confused as to what is an illusion and what is a real step that should be taken.

I have also felt the sometimes irresistible urge to work at a casino and gambling is something I naturally like with my Moon in Leo. And with the Sun ruling the Moon in my chart that square is going to affect my emotions as well.

So again the boundary fantasy-reality is really really hard to see. And with Neptune reasoning of any sort would not really help so I am contemplating indeed trying to trust my intuition and going with the flow. Although with a square nobody can guarantee the flow would not actually leave me stranded on a small island in the middle of nowhere. But h*ll, there would be a lesson in that also, right? :)

Hey, you kids are lucky it's just transiting!

Try living with this awful duo....

:innocent: (sun-neptune square)

Hang in there!

One word of advice - when you get a notion about someone, something, follow it. Don't convince yourself that it won't be that bad. The front end of Neptune is insight and intuition. Follow your hunches. The back end of Neptune is delusion and disappointment. If you think something is a bad idea but go along with it anyway, you're likely to be hoodwinked. If you get the "uh oh" feeling - BACK AWAY!

My two pennies.

Has anyone had this transiting aspect happen to them? It's been the worst for me to deal with. The current transiting Neptune in Aquarius is squaring my Taurus Sun. It's caused bouts of depression, self doubt, and constant fear and confusion for no reason. Even when there is no logical reason for me to fear something, it doesn't go away. Meditation is helping, but this aspect is tough.

Neptune may not be a malefic per se, but I view it as much worse than mars or Pluto, because Neptune causes confusion and unreality, you don't even know what's going on with yourself. (Especially the square aspect) Even worse, Neptune is currently in my first house since Aquarius is my ascendant.

For those who have had this aspect happen (or have some insight or advice) could you please tell me how to get over this aspect? It's really a hassle and it's so hard to deal with.

Chart with transits:
http://www.astro.com/cgi/chart.cgi?cid=7owfileIizDKS-u1216483559&lang=e&gm=a1&nhor=3&nho2=3&btyp=24&mth=gw&sday=19&smon=10&syr=2008&hsy=-1&zod=&orbp=&rs=0&ast=

I have heard that this aspect will be nullified by March of next year and resume in January of 2010.

I realise I am replying to this message a couple of years later!

I am going through this now.. and finding it extremely hard especially with deceptive people. I’m also extremely tired, exhausted even. I trained in a skill to then set up my own business and I have completely lost enthusiasm and drive to do it! I have sun conj Neptune in my natal chart so this is a struggle for me anyway! Neptune also I’ll moon in my natal chart... urghhh I hate Neptune!! It’s the bane of my life 😕

Several factors affect the way a transit acts.

1. Natal relationship between the two planets. Aspect. Reception.
2. Age of the native at time of transit.
3. Natal power of the planet. The transits of powerful planets are apt to be deeper.

There are other factors.

I have Neptune at 2°52' W of the IC, the only angular planet in the chart and a dominant player in my life. Very powerful.

My Sun is Aquarius, and along in my mid-60s Neptune transited to the conjunction with natal Sun. The conjunction was partile at the moment of the solar return. Natally, Sun-Neptune has a separation of 138°01'. This is a sesquiquadrate plus 3°01'; should the aspect be allowed?...It's a wide orb for this minor aspect, but Neptune is powerful and it's a solar aspect.

For 3 weeks surrounding the transit I lived in another realm. I'll call it epiphany. During that same period I got false teeth (Neptune=prosthetics, also anaesthesia) and blurted out to the dentist what I was living through. He put his face right in front of mine and said, "And now you can SEE!"

Life changing.

I have Sun at 13 degrees Gemini (9th house), so I had this transit last year, first direct at around February/March, and then retrograde at around Christmastime.

My Neptune is pretty powerful. Conjunct the IC and opposite Mercury/Mars on the MC. Neptune and Sun are aspected by declination only, closely contra-parallel.

Nothing major or life-changing happened during those times, or inbetween, or in the times before or after. I was very creatively active (art, photography, music), got into astrology again, had slight changes to my workplace and work schedule, did some traveling, lost my main online creative venue because of corporate greed, had some minor medical issues, and fell in love with my mum's new puppy. But that's pretty much it... As far as mental state goes I don't remember there being any extra confusion or fatigue. Overall it was a period of status quo, creativity, and blissful enjoyment of the little things in life. I don't know why, but transits don't tend to impact me much, and this one was no different. I also had Saturn transiting the IC at these same times... and yeah, didn't notice that one either.
