Astrology of Surgeons

I wonder if a rx mars would be in the chart of an oncologist?.

the pluto emphasis is interesting. the pluto/uranus conj in virgo generation - those who are surgeons I think made it at a younger age(you used to have be old to be a surgeon/consultant) and are pioneering the key hole minimal intervention surgery.

I dont have the full chart for a plastic surgeon who gave an interview. An ugly soul, sun and venus in virgo so very critical of beauty(no looker himeself i might add) , he spoke of 20 years old having botox and this was the shape of the future. He was in his 50's so a pluto in leo. pluto has to be used wisely otherwise it is very destructive.

Why do you think that?

I looked in astro data bank and I found two oncologists - one has Mars in Libra and the other one has it in Scorpio.
I looked over the internet and I made charts for three oncologists, professors, very accomplished, two had Mars in Scorpio and one in Capricorn.
All direct! So very strong Mars and direct. But I'd look in a book about this subject because it is very vast and we cannot jump to conclusions after a few charts. I mean, I enjoy looking at charts but I cannot draw a rule after seeing them. I just notice what seems to be repeating.

Compared to the surgeons' charts in these oncologists' charts Mars is very strong but it has less aspects to Mercury or Pluto.

I meant surgical oncologists. So oncologists can just work with chemo. this may explain the charts that you found.

the reason for the suggestion (this is a new development in last ten years), surgeons now work with a multi disciplinary team to discuss a persons best options of successful outcome. so they review and do a lot of tests before they start treatment. Previously these people did not meet even in the same hospital and hence the negative pluto influence showing up. This meeting of minds has improved the outcomes for patients!

karol Sikora is a well known oncologist (not sure if he is a surgeon) but he is also very interested in a holostic approach to oncology including complementary therapies. I will see if I get his birth details.
so with a shift in the generational influences there will be a new breed of surgeon born!

Aha! I get that! I specifically looked for medical oncologists that worked with radiation/chemotherapy.

I'm looking forward to your data!

I looked at 20 charts of surgeons from astro data bank.
I looked at the sign of Mars, NN, aspects between Mars, Mercury and Pluto. And this is what I found:

Mars: 4 in Scorpio
4 in Pisces
3 in Libra
2 in Aries, Leo, Sag
1 in Cap, Taurus, Gemini
2 of all were retro (one chart was extremely old, obstetrician and gynaecologist and the other one was of a controversial figure,Nazi collaborator. In his case Mars was the apex of a Kite, intercepted in Sag in the 4th)

NN was in : Libra - 6
Aries - 3
and others.
In all the cases that Mars was in Libra, NN was also there.
I suppose the main reason for so many NN in Libra was that those people had developed in other lives their Aries-like qualities from which they benefited as surgeons.

About the aspects between the planets:

Mars/Mercury - 3 trines 3 squares
2 sextiles 1 opposition (the very old chart)

Mars/Pluto - 2 trines 5 squares
3 sextiles 1 opposition
1 quincunx (the Nazi collaborator:bandit: had a Yod on Pluto:w00t:)

Mercury/Pluto - 1 conjunction

4 charts had no aspects between those planets, that would be 20 percent.

The square Mars/Pluto seems to be the most frequent.

I also looked at the houses Mars was in and the first places were taken by the 1st and the 5th house. I couldn't use all the charts' houses because some were extremely large/small.

I was very interested in Mars in Libra because I thought that won't do well for a surgeon but I guess with other placements (and in these cases with NN there also, to draw them to their life purpose) it is possible. All the more because those people were very famous surgeons so they had done a lot with that Mars.

I totally have the potential of being a pediatric surgeon but it will take patience, good grades, a foreign school, time, and money. All of which are not easy. So it may not come to pass but I haven't ruled it out. I am awaiting a job offer in Spain if that doesn't fly here goes scientific related courses. However I see myself inventing tools for surgery or in the medical profession. As I have already invented and patented a life saving invention which needs work.

JITW - good luck with your career choice. I notice your gemini north node conj chiron in 4th. so perhaps in the long term an inventor?

I did check out the chart for the doctor I mentioned. no rising time but I would guess at scorpio rising. dob 18.06.48. very interesting chart. mars appears to be unaspected but would depend on the rising sign. he has supported controversial complementary therapies in a very conservative profession. Which has affected his career status hence the reason I think he has a stellium in the 8th.

I can see myself an inventor for long term also, cause I have dreams of inventing stuff, plus Uranus falls in the 11th house of Sag, which is an inventive spirit. Btw, what's up with June 18? alot of scientific/artistic minds born on that date.

This is an amazing thread! I noticed the few things of my interest......there are a few with Cancer Suns & Pisces risings! But the main part I find is either high Mars or Pluto energy.
My reason for interest is ME! I've always found surgery fascinating but somehow people keep discouraging me. Also I've been counselled several times that my chart might not support surgery & points more towards psychotherapy (which I agree I'm better than any trained professional). Can you possibly have a look? I also have a dominant Mercury, so now I'm actually wondering if I can take this line. ( I'm preparing for specialisation RIGHT NOW!):whistling:

Haha! I'm so glad you like it!

I noticed you have Mercury trine Mars which would indicate you're very good with your hands. That would be the opposite of clumsy, which would be me - Mercury square Mars!:w00t: Some people would say that aspect does not necessarily mean that but as I have it I can say it does! (for me...)

You have Mars and Pluto in the same sign, not conjunct but still they share the same interest! That Saturn I don't know how it plays for you, it could be very good to give you seriousness, the patience to deal with the routine or maybe it could make you doubt your actions (Don't let it do that!)

So, some people discourage you... Well, let me tell you something - those people will not operate in the O.R., you will! And if in your country it is like in mine (and in surgery it probably is), that is just the beginning!
I've been told since before I went to the medical school I'm not going to make it (Those people don't have anything better to do? Something boiling, children to feed etc, they're everywhere!) and I am a resident surgeon now. I don't even remember who they are so I could tell them - I told you so! (Neh ne ne ne nee neh! Very mature, I know.)

But now that you told me I realise I haven't heard them for a while! Nobody questions my ability of doing something any more! (Instead they ask me things...:whistling:)

I am also into psychology and I don't know if I chose right - but that is my issue, not yours.

What you really need to understand is this is just the beginning!
Surgery is very much like a war, people will do maybe more than discouraging you (but they'll do that a lot, maybe because it's illegal to beat someone:happy:), you'll fight with a lot of them, on a daily basis but that doesn't matter!
When you do the work it's just you and the work done and if you do it right there's nothing anybody could do to you!
You will feel probably very alone because you'll be the only one accountable for your actions and many times, nobody will help you!

But if that's what you want to do and it makes you happy, no chart can prevent you from getting where you want! And all the "bad" aspects from the chart can be turned around. Much!

My chart has worse aspects than yours and I made it.
We share Mars in Libra in the 7th, Pluto in Libra (yours is in the 8th which is better) and others. Your Jupiter is very good for surgery in Scorpio in the 8th. You have NN in the 5th? I do too and that means -"less thinking, more action!" and also "I don't follow what others say, I follow my heart!".
From what you said it shows you take other people's opinion into consideration. Maybe too much?

I started this thread because I wanted to see if you need a special chart to be a surgeon. There are some traits but they mean "it would be easier for you to be a surgeon" and not that you will be or not.

So think if you'll like it and if you're prepared to fight for it, if it's worth enough for you. What people say, never mind, they'll not stop saying no matter what you do!

BEST post up to date!
Thank u!
I think my bloody Libran moon makes my life a wreck! But yes alot of ppl say I don't have the courage to b a surgeon but more than anything I think my Sun sq Mars (though in relationship signs) give me a great thrust towards achievment (I read surgeons have that aspect). Saturn keeps me grounded (ESP compensating for my lack of earth element). I have alot of patience to get to my goal. But I'm not sure bout dexterity as such. I always been good at embroidery but that's all where my needle skills came in handy.Btw my libra stellium flips entirely into 8 th house with whole signs. ^^
I'm gonna hold this post to heart n register for surgery. *keeping fingers crossed*.
A million blessings!

P.s: could Uranus in Aries help thru this 5yr training period in any way?

You have Neptune ruler of the chart and on MC which would make you want to be a healer and help you with that. It could also add some confusion when choosing your profession!

Your Mercury looks strong too in Gemini and it rules hands...
Of course, it is a good thing to have a stellium in the 8th (for surgery)!

And don't give up on your embroidery skills, it is indicated to practice at home - sutures, knots etc. on a device you can buy especially for that or on a cushion, a cardboard, I read of a surgeon who sawed pieces of paper (he was a vascular surgeon and that's how he improved his dexterity!)

I don't know about Uranus in Aries - maybe it helps, why not?

Choose with your heart and be awesome!

Neptune! :annoyed: As long as it works it's illusionary nets on 'PUBLIC' for popularity I'll be more than happy but yes, you hit the nail right on!

Wonderful & encouraging advise JUST WHEN I NEEDED IT!
You're a pal! Good luck to us all!

I'm very interested in finding what are the main indicators in someone's chart in order to be a successful surgeon.
And even if we can not find some "rules" about it, I would like to discuss some charts of good (and famous or not) surgeons. I'm willing to put some surgeons' charts (I'll erase all of their personal data) and I'd like to discuss about them.

What do you say? Would you like that?

If there's another thread about it I'd like to know and follow on that one, I found only a thread about physicians in general.

Thanks in advance for your ideas, I hope it'll be interesting!
(BTW, for the charts that I have in mind I don't know the hour of birth so there would be some things we could not rely on.)
I have Christiaan Barnard's chart, the heart surgeon. We are better to do famous and well known people as we have some information on them and they dont have to be anonymised.

Chart no 6

I saw an interview with her in a magazine and I couldn't resist drawing her chart....

Very accomplished female surgeon,43, owning her private plastic surgery clinic, beautiful. She caught my attention when she said she has been through a divorce once and now she failed at maintaining another important relationship in her life. And seeing that Venus conjunct Chiron and NN is not surprising!!..And opposing Pluto conjunct Moon...

Mercury trine Pluto, quintile Mars
Mars sextile Pluto

What I wanted to say is that again a Venus in Aries is present! In all the charts I've posted (the 6 ones of local surgeons) this placement exists in 4 cases and in all female cases.(Maybe perhaps women tend to identify more with their Venus so they need a strong one...) And I didn't search the charts with Venus in Aries on purpose!:w00t:

It's interesting to see her Chiron conjunct NN (in 0 Aries!) and opposing Uranus and Jupiter. There are things who hold her back for sure. All the people I know with Chiron conjunct NN have not succeeded in healing themselves (not even speaking of helping others) so now I respect her even more knowing she must have gone through a lot of pain to get where she is.

hey,

this thread was very informative. I know a bit of astrology but not as good as the rest of you. I am currently an undergraduate pre-med at Columbia University in New York and want to be a surgeon in the future. Just recently, I got accepted into the Pediatric Gastroenterology lab at Columbia's medical school for research for summer and before that, I was working with Children's mental health and collecting a vast amount of data from previously institutionalized or adopted children, who do not have a good upbringing and how their brain develops, because it has been discovered that the brain develops abnormally for children in foster care or who have been abused and with that research data, lot of interesting projects are planned for future behavior and how to prevent abnormal societal situations, etc...

My question: Can I become a Pediatric Surgeon?

I had a life before Columbia and I was doing many different things.

My birth details:
DOB: 7th November 1989
TOB: 21:44 PM
POB: Duliajan (27.3572° N, 95.3223° E)

Thanks,

Nobody needs a serious amount of Scorpio to be a surgeon. Mars rules surgeons and is the traditional ruler of Scorpio. Possibly a heavily Scorpionic chart would be advantageous, but note that Mercury rules the hands, and it is strongest in Gemini and Virgo.
