What orb do people use for fixed stars?

Let's say that someone has their Mercury at 22º00' degrees Libra. What fixed star is conjunct Mercury in this case? Is it Spica or Foramen? Or both?

Foramen is at 22º09' Libra, while Spica is at 23º50' Libra. According to the website astrologyking, the orb for Spica is 2º40' while it's 1º30' for Foramen.

Four degrees is stretching it but yeah. The royal fixed stars and Algol is where I go wide. With Sirius I might go as far as 3. The other ones like Scheat, Spica, Rigel I go 2 and the rest are 1.

Individual styles and all that

ETA: My major guide is if it has an effect in the life of the chart under study.

CT, what's your opinion on a woman with Bellatrix on the Ascendant? Less than one degree.

I use orb (in longitude) according to magnitude of the star:

1st mag = 3 degree orb
2nd & 3rd mag = 2 degree orb
4th, 5th mag = 1 degree orb

Regarding declination of declination:
1st and 2nd mag = 2 degree orb
3rd mag = 1.5 degree orb
4th, 5th mag = .5 to maximum of 1 degree orb

Regarding parallel of LATITUDE: must be within same degree of either North or South latitude; however I rarely consider parallel of latitude relative to the stars, nor do I usually use POL with the planets.

the brighter the star the more influence it has :smile:
and the greater its orb may be

Traditional authors maximum orb allowance for Fixed Stars is 2° for stars of the first magnitude
and those stars which are not of first magnitude have 1° orb.
conjunctions are of note, by parallel and longitude
especially when simultaneously an occultation

Lilly noted Algol as an indication of decapitation, hanging or danger to the head.
In Lillys system of scoring planetary strength
any planet within five degrees of Algol is detrimented by 4 points of debility.
