There is a lot of fake news, misinformation and erroneous statements floating around the internet and in the news manufactured from both the far left and far right and everything in between.
There are a number of fact-checkers out there - and yes, even some of these may be suspect of promoting disinformation, so we even need to be discerning about our fact-checkers.
Politifact (
https://www.politifact.com/) is at least one good American fact-checker because they seem to be fair and nonpartisan. They won a Pulitzer Prize for the fairness of their fact-checking work.
If Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, Barak Obama or any other Democrat says something false, they call them on it. If what they say is true, Politifact reports it as so. And the same is true for Donald Trump, Mike Pence or any other Republican figure. They actually research and rate each statement a number of ways from patently false to half-true to patently true - and give the reasons why. They write about how they researched the statement. You can also request a quote to be fact-checked, which is wonderful!
We need truth to make good decisions, policies and laws that truly benefit us all as a nation. I encourage everyone to at least explore one or several of the many fact-checkers out there before passing on information. I have found some international fact-checkers too - like this one:
https://www.poynter.org/ifcn/ - so if you're interested, you'll find many people working to help us sort out the truth. These days, it's a very tough job!
