That doesn't seem to be the standard view of a planet in it's joy, that it's simply in a "marginally better state" than if it were in a random cadent house.

I wouldn't say it's better, but the 3 core house systems definitely all work. I would use porphyry over placcidus btw for the quadrant based house system and then also refer to whole and equal.
