Venus conjunct the Ascendant. What are the effects?

Oh really? Homosexuality can be predicted in a natal chart? As bad personality traits? Maybe you're using astrology the wrong way.

"Homosexuality might be a bad thing".. "Heterosexuality might be a bad thing"

Wow. The things I come up with in the internet.

Exactly. There are far too many charts that I have seen which do not indicate very reliable indicators of preference in relationships.

Don't you really mean "There are far too many charts I cannot read well enough to detect preference"?

Can you see homosexuality in this chart?
Venus is conjunct the Ascendant.
And the chart belongs to a well-known homosexual.
I never once said that homosexuality is "bad". That perception comes from someone who, it seems to me, is somewhat hypersensitive about his own sexual preference.

Your statement "...do not indicate very reliable indicators [sic]..." suggests to me that you are looking for "reliable indicators" such as "Venus square Uranus" or "Pluto in the Eighth House", aspects or positions listed in "Culpepper's Surefire Indicators of Homosexuality". There are other, more subtle and incisive ways to read a chart.

Hint: In the chart above, Venus conjunct the Ascendant is an indicator of homosexuality. There are others in this chart.

Homosexuality goes far beyond "sexual preference". There are deeper, more complex psychological factors in play. The effects (and causes) of homosexuality are pervasive. A homosexual faces discrimination and ostracism on all fronts. Anything so powerfully influential in the life must be shown in the chart. If, as you say, homosexuality is not reliably indicated in a chart, then such polarities as greed/generosity, egocentrism/altruism, aggression/passivity (the list goes on) must also remain an enigma, beyond the purview of the astrologer.

The implication that
ONE example chart
with
'Venus is conjunct the Ascendant'
ALWAYS indicates 'homosexuality'
is an obviously flawed inference favored by the 'One-Size-Fits-All' School of Astrology

clearly

The Ascendant SIGN and/or Venus Sign has a ruler

there are 12 signs

and

the sign and house location of the Ascendant Sign ruler and/or Venus Sign ruler
requires imperative delineation in every natal chart

otherwise the interpretation is unreliable

I did not say, nor did I imply, that Venus conjunct the Ascendant ALWAYS indicates homosexuality. I mentioned "Culpepper's Surefire Indicators" as a warning against such ideas....Venus square Uranus or Pluto in the Eighth do not ALWAYS indicate homosexuality, but they may do so in some specific chart. In the chart offered as an example, Venus conjunct Ascendant is a powerful indicator of homosexuality.

Cast the chart and look at it. Then speak.

The first allegation -- that I included homosexuality among a list of traits perceived as negative and therefore consider homosexuality to be "bad" -- is fallacious. Homosexuality is abnormal, deviant, an aberrration. It occurs in roughly 5-10% of the male population (its overt manifestation and frequency can and do vary with cultural mores....e.g., Sparta vs. Islam). Abnormality simply means that a condition does not occur except in a very small segment of any population.

The second allegation -- that I believe Venus conjunct Ascendant ALWAYS (or even in most cases) indicates homosexuality means nothing more than that READING EVERYDAY ENGLISH 101 could be profitably repeated. There's a big difference between reading what I say and what you think I say. Putting words in my mouth makes for lively discussion but does not lend itself to truth or learning.

My point since my first post to this thread has been to show that Venus is not always "beauty", which was and often is an implicit assumption when dealing with Venus.

*sighs*

I will only say something: if there isn't a chromosome/gene for homosexuality/heterosexuality/bisexuality, etc, why would astrology do so?

Astrology is used to discover more things about ourselves, our flaws, our talents, guidance on how to go in our own unique life path.

All I did was tuck the word homosexuality in amongst a half dozen other words
And the thread went bonkers.

Here's what I said, "It might mean a narcissistic personality, extreme vanity, homosexuality, hedonism, prostitution or a host of other things "good" and "bad", depending on its conditioning and role in the whole chart."

True, I stuck homosexuality in with other terms of a basically negative connotation. But look at the attitude of a very large segment of the general population toward homosexuality. Queers are beaten up, even killed. People of certain religious persuasions speak of homosexuals as if they were worse than murderers. Parents disown homosexual children. Gays are ridiculed. Discrimination against them is widespread in employment and housing, even in the churches...they are excluded. Gay people often can't adopt children, leaving the children without loving parents. Is it any wonder that so many gays live in the closet?

This is not to mention the severe inner confusion that many gay people must live with and through...the face they see in the mirror is "not normal." In the early years of the AIDS epidemic it was the gay community that suffered most; their lives were destroyed, their bodies ravaged.

Seems to me I am being attacked for something I never said and never implied: a "moral judgment" against homosexuals. I have a hunch that much of this criticism comes from people who are homosexual and are projecting their hyper-sensitive defensiveness on me.

I drove cab for years and years in cities all across the US. I've hauled many a homosexual. I have never met one... not a single one... who did not believe that "he/she was born that way." (If there are any gay people here who believe they chose to be gay, I'd sure like to hear from you.)

To say there is no gene for homosexuality...that may or may not be correct. But recent research seems to have detected some differences in brain function among homosexuals. That homosexuals unanimously believe they were born that way seems to imply some inborn difference from the bulk of the population.

I know from long experience that homosexuality can be seen in a horoscope. I have said many times in this forum that a person's sexual inclinations, whether homosexual or straight (whatever that might be) are to be seen in the natal chart...as are all life-influencing personality traits. Homosexuality is no different from greed, aggression, empathy, nurture, psychopathy, accident proneness, altruism or any other human characteristic astrologically. These traits are what make us who we are and they can be seen in the horoscope.

To return to the original intended point: Venus on the Ascendant can express either positive or negative traits. Venus can as easily impart ugliness as beauty.

Quite clearly, Venus conjunct ascendant is not necessarily automatically indicative of homosexuality

for example:

the natal chart of a well known openly homosexual entertainer is attached

BUT

Venus is not conjunct ascendant

so

clearly

generalisation is unreliable

and interpretation of the natal chart as a whole is paramount

Don't take things out of context.

In post #10 of this thread I said: Venus on the Ascendant (or any other position of any planet) must be interpreted in the context of the whole chart. Nothing in any chart stands alone.

In the same post I said: It might mean a narcissistic personality, extreme vanity, homosexuality, hedonism, prostitution or a host of other things "good" and "bad", depending on its conditioning and role in the whole chart.

In post #24 I said: I did not say, nor did I imply, that Venus conjunct the Ascendant ALWAYS indicates homosexuality. I mentioned "Culpepper's Surefire Indicators" as a warning against such ideas....Venus square Uranus or Pluto in the Eighth do not ALWAYS indicate homosexuality, but they may do so in some specific chart. Enough said.

The OP included this:

"So all this makes me wonder what are the true effects of Venus conjunct the Ascendant, especially since I have it so tight and I don't see any results?"

You don't see any results??

I will tell you why you "don't see any results".
Because you are expecting to see certain results (preconceived ideas) instead of interpreting Venus in terms of your individual chart. You are not seeing what you expect to see, but that is because your expectations are not in tune with what Venus actually implies in your specific chart.

Well I have venus conjunct ascendant in leo and i'm bisexual. But I don't think it's because of my venus conjunct ascendant. I think the conjunction simply makes you appreciate beauty. I'm always trying to make things beautiful around me and I like to invest in my own personal style and make my looks represent my personality and that might or might not be attractive to some people. I'd say I have confidence and even pride(leo) in my looks and people often think confidence is attractive so... But I don't really see any connection to homosexuality since isn't ascendant simply the first impression and how you appear to others? So couldn't it mean you might appear homosexual even if you're not? I've no idea :D or it might just have a connection to the balance of feminine and masculine sides of oneself which might sometimes give clues to sexual orientation?
Im pretty sure it has nothing to do with homosexuality. I have it in leo as well and I dont appear gay rofl no one told me to my face.. nor am I gay or bi.. I mean or a prostitue though being an escort like getting payed to go to fancy resturants always seemed like a sweet deal to me.

Well I try to be fair with people.

c'mon people! I think something we should've learned by now is no aspects in our chance can be really interpreted on their own :) are your Venus+ASC aspect any other planets or points?

I don't have this in my natal chart, I'm experiencing it now with Venus transiting right over my ASC today, also (water) trining my natal Mercury along the way.

I know transit meanings are different from natal charts, but it's still a fun matter to talk about, isn't it?

just reading the past notes I realized all the contacts Venus is triggering in my own chart. First we all know Venus is just walking in Leo right now along with Jupiter, the Sun and Mercury. it's a party!

the Sun (goals or plans) was one with Jupiter (abundance) in Leo (shine!), finding what next project you really want to accomplish. then came in Mercury (communication) with the Sun, discussing their next goal! Finally, Venus (desire, self worth, passion) comes in and everything is just going so smoothly for things to work out! (unless your not very in. touch with what's going in Scorpio, that's another story)

so it's interesting for me because I'm a critical degree 29 17"Cancer ASC with also critical 29 59"Pisces (dreamy, sometimes unattached) natal Mercury in 9th house (formal studies, abroad), all which Venus is aspecting on the same day at least for the next couple of days. I have been going through some very rough patches for the past year, all that I had known as true in my relationship ( which is an important thing for me due to some other aspects) had turned out to be a lie. Also, in my early years it has been very difficult for me to feel comfortable with my own self, but I couldn't really UNDERSTAND why.

then in November I got myself into astrology, HARD. It's been unstoppable since my thirst for knowledge. So long story short, it's all gotten me to this point in time. My ASC may be Cancer, but 99% of this sign (basics, emotions) was in 12 house (secrets, skeletons in the closet) so really I feel I was just making final adjustments needed to clear up my heart and perspective of love that I have been working for years because of (groundbreaking) Saturn business. Now, Venus(love, self worth) is one touch with my ASC (my impression on others), also trining with my natal Mercury (communication). And let's face it, she's doing so while walking in the party in 99% of my I house (who I AM), so I'm ready to show the world what I'm worthy of! I've been working on so many issues involving getting to know myself (this year's Grand Cross, noticing both my ASC and MC are cardinal, which also obviously means my 4th and 7th house were involved, all mentioned houses are like our basics or pillars to an area of our lives), then Mars retrograde for like SEVEN MONTHS (ughhh) in completely off puting Libra (Mars complete opposite, learning some well needed patience!) in my 4th house (home, basics, also symbolizes Cancer). then working out some (groundbreaking) Saturn issues (which is the most influential planet in my own natal chart! it's quite important to me, even more than my heeaavy Aries ->Mars' ruler<- Sun in MC) that has been going on for a couple of years. Saturn (shakes things up) it also rules my 7th (long term relationships) so yeah.

Now that I've worked day after day on going back to getting to know and love myself before expecting to be appreciated just BECAUSE, things are finally working out in my advantage with my self esteem boost and soon permanent move to a completely different continent!!

it doesn't matter how many times I research it and try to convince myself I have Leo ASC traits, nope I'm entirely Cancer ASC lol. but still, this particular sign rings so many bells, plays some mystic chords in my sou, I adore it! (maybe heavy Sun and most I house?) so having such a fun party in my self esteem pedal is really giving me an amazing, cheery, joyful mood all I want to do is share it with the world! something I just truly craved, seeing as this past Super Moon in Aquarius was not quite easy on me, I've been feeling terribly blue and just meh. noe I've come to terms and I have so much confidence, I love it :D

I can get to excesses though,so sorry for this crazy long post btw. but at least I hope you enjoyed reading! thank you :3

I know that this configuration is supposed to give some beauty or magnetism, but I have it,Venus conjunct the Asc,conjunct Mars, sextile Pluto, and I don't feel really attractive,I don't have guys chasing me.I only had some similar experiences when transiting Jupiter was conjunct my Venus/Ascendant,but besides that things were really dissapointing in my love life and until high school it was considered a joke for someone to like me,I was even made fun of how I looked.
On the other hand,I noticed that guys always take me seriously, they always wanted a relationship with me,never just sex.I should feel honoured by this, but it makes me feel a little un-sexy.
So all this makes me wonder what are the true effects of Venus conjunct the Ascendant, especially since I have it so tight and I don't see any results?

I think its because of your pluto venus aspect. Pulto venus aspect can make someone completely deny their sexuality, beauty and attractiveness and on the other hand it can also make someone a sexy vixen who knows how to use her sexuality as a weapon.

When Venus conjuncts any natal ascendant, Venus and ascendant are in one of the 12 signs

so
Venus may conjunct ascendant in either
Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces

and
that makes a big difference

because

Aries ruler is MARS
Taurus ruler is VENUS
Gemini ruler is MERCURY
Cancer ruler is MOON
Leo ruler is SUN
and so on......

so study the sign location of natal Venus/Ascendant

and

if Venus is not in either one of her home signs of Taurus or Libra

then
find the sign and house location of Venus ruler

because
unless you belong to the generalised 'One-Size-Fits-All' School of unreliable astrology

these are essential steps when delineating 'Venus conjunct ascendant'

so

study the significations of VENUS http://www.skyscript.co.uk/venus.html

study the significations of the 12 signs for example Venus Exaltation sign is PISCES http://www.skyscript.co.uk/pisces.html

[FONT=Times New Roman, serif]
study the significations of the houses http://www.skyscript.co.uk/temples/h1.html

Thank you for this very holistic interpretation of venus. My venus and asc are conjuct by 5 degree in Leo in the 12H. This conjuct squares the top of both my yods.

I have found that venus is not too happy in Leo and it becomes a dynamic of "who outshines who"? My sun (chart ruler) is actually in Libra in 2H. It seems this venus placement has lead to many envious women at times in my life. Including some intense bullying in my formative years by female classmates that forced me to switch schools with my tail between my legs. It seems people can be jealous even when there is nothing to be jealous of? Perhaps this is 12H showing up with hidden enemies.

It has been a challenge to feel beautiful, but I appreciate my uniqueness more and more. I try to comfort jealous with love because if it is in my natal chart, the giver of jealous I feel is simply compelled.
