I don't know what Russia's draft status is but I do know they are surrounded by enemies and I can understand their need to be battle ready.

Ukraine has always had military conscription. ....Since when it was part of the Soviet Union.
They never changed it.
Russian Federation
As of 2021, all male citizens aged 18–27 are subject to conscription for 1 year of active duty military service
in armed forces, but the precise number of conscripts for each of the recruitment campaigns, which are usually held
twice annually.
Conscriptioning men to fight in Ukraine was a decree by Putin to add another 220,000 to the small # that
originally entered Ukraine. More than 500,000 showed up & 1/2 were turned away as they didn't need them.
Russians are probably the bravest, most Patriotic soldiers & proved that in ww2 where more Russian soldiers
died fighting against the Germans than all the other countries combined.
They really hate hazis.
Fun fact: During ww2, Ukranians fought WITH the German nazis against Russia & the west. And they neve left.
The country is infested with nazis with children as young as 5 being taught the nazi salute.

Just as a point of interest, the Battle of Stalingrad was not in Germany's interest. It was personal for Hitler, and a waste of Germany's fighting force, even if Germany hadn't met with a catastrophic defeat. His generals begged him to forget about taking the Soviet capital, and concentrate on the strategic objective of securing some of the Russian oil fields for fighting the war against the U.S. and England, but Hitler wouldn't listen.
This war in Ukraine is personal for Putin, the same as defeating Stalin was to Hitler, and it's not in Mother Russia's best interests. That's why it's "Putin's War", and NOT a war "between Russia and Ukraine".

Listening to Colonel Douglas Macgregor it is what USA did in WWII to Germany. Targeted their fuel storage, fuel distributions and power plants putting countries in the dark and making it impossible to lead normal lives. It brought the Air Force and Army almost to a stand still.

In WWII, Hitler's Germany was the powerful aggressor, bent on world conquest. In Putin's War, the powerful aggressor is Putin himself, bent on conquering Ukraine, which had no intention of attacking Russia.

Now, he needs weapons to defend Ukraine against Putin's unilateral aggression.
Zelensky wasn't even in favor of making Ukrainian the official language. That was done before he took office. And, it's still no big deal. Russian is the official language of Russia. Lots of countries have an official language for conducting official government business.
As Putin well-knows, NO ONE is going to threaten Russian sovereignty within its own sovereign borders. Not with the Nuclear Arsenal he has at his disposal! His false claim that "OMG, NATO is trying to overthrow me
" is just a ruse to excuse his own brutal War on Ukraine.

It pisses me off that our leaders could not see an opportunity to build a peaceful co-existence with Russia like China, India, Turkey and many other countries are doing and instead acted recklessly and predatory. Col Douglas Macgregor is the most informed military person on Ukraine.
He recently said in an interview that Russia is planning on a huge offensive in the winter which
will bring the war to an end.
There won't be much of Ukraine left anyways since half the country voted to join Mother Russia.
The bulk of the Russia military has been held back until now. Macgregor has stated previously that the
Russians only deployed a tiny fraction of their military to accomplish her mission. (biolabs, etc).
Now that there will never be peace negotiations, Russia is going to 'let loose' a large military continguent.
They have under arrest the many Ukranian nazis who committed war crimes & will be holding military
tribunals at some point.
Ukraine lost the war a long time ago. Russian is just doing a 'clean up' military job this winter.
Meanwhile, Zelensky is going into studios in Italy & Poland (he & his family left in March 22) begging for
more & more money. Now says he needs one TRILLION dollars to rebuild Ukraine.
