Progressed retrograde Venus

Hello! My Venus went retrograde in the progressied chart when I was a child. Does this mean that the external expression of Venus is blocked for me? Am I doomed to love failures until my 40’s? Is it possible to do something about it? Thank you very much.

Since Venus doesn't rule your seventh house, I wouldn't expect its progressed retrograde to have any significant effect on your love life/having a partner. Changes in the direction of progressed Venus tend to have the most impact on the Venus ruled houses.

Venus rules your very wide sixth house, and an intercepted piece of your twelfth. In whole sign--which I also like to consider when the house sizes in quadrant system are so wildly irregular as yours are--it would be your fifth and your twelfth that are ruled by Venus. If there's any impact from progressed Venus retrograde, it would be on those topics.

Even without a progressed retograde to consider, your Venus isn't necessarily acting like Venus: it's in its fall sign of Aries, and to go retrograde by progression during your early childhood, it would have to have been slowing into its station when you were born. And, to go by the Placidus house placement, it's in the twelfth house. That's not a Venus that's dancing around in girly Venusian glory. That's a Venus who's demanding attention to what may be some difficult areas of your life (twelfth house can indicate that) and who'd rather go out and climb a mountain than wine and dine (Aries).

Thank you so much for your reply! Yes, I was born 5 days before Venus turned retrograde. My Venus is pretty complicated, so I'm afraid that the nice things that are symbolically associated with it will be out of reach and blocked for me. Is slow Venus a bad thing?

There are two basic ways to look at a slow moving planet: it doesn't manifest quickly and easily in your life/the topics it rules (because it's slow), or it's a spotlight on the area of your chart it's in, drawing extra attention to itself, to that section of your chart, and to any aspects it's involved in.

What your slow moving Venus might mean (and in fall, too) is that there isn't much Venusian about your Venus-ruled areas of life, at least not apparently. Perhaps your hobbies (fifth house) or your daily work, routines, and working environment (sixth) don't resonate as much with Venus as you might expect based on having them ruled by Venus. They're kind of like a little girl who turns out to be a tomboy when everyone expects her to like frilly dresses and dolls.

The slowness of Venus could also mean some slow, steady, but ultimately very strong growth in the Venusian areas of your life.

That's saying nothing about your potential for romance. If you find that to be blocked, something else is going on.

Thank you very much for your sensible opinion, you are indeed very right that I grabbed at one thing out of fear and did not pay attention to other methods of predictions.

There are nine measures of prediction in astrology, in three zodiacs in at least 2 different kinds of charts.

You cannot make a prediction of an actual event in your life using just one. Unfortunately most astrologers are only internet trained and so they don’t know three very basic things that the internet doesn’t tell them:

1. Not all aspects, planets, signs, houses in a chart have the same level of importance. People who don’t know this are like people with attention deficit disorder trying to determine which of the last 10 things that happened to them is more important. Traditional Astrology used dignities and debilitates, but the Church of Light decided in 1920-1950 to do a scientific study of this with 50,000 charts each with a very specific predictive and natal questionnaire to come up with a very very very accurate numerical rating system, using statistics.

2. The natal chart determines whether there will ber any action caused by a n aspect relationship in the future. If the two planets do not have a Ptolemaic relationship(0,30,60,90,120,150, 180 degree) IN THE NATAL CHART, then no aspect between them in a measure of prediction will sign post any event in real life. Yes, they can signpost feeling, or thoughts, but not an actual event.

3. You need more than one measure of prediction to signpost an event. With one, you have a maybe: about 50% chance it will happen, 50% chance it won’t; with two measures of prediction that say the same general thing, this increases to a “possibly” or about 60% chance it will happen and 40% chance it won’t; With three measures of prediction all saying the same general thing, this increases to a “Probably”, or about 80% chance it will happen and 20% chance it won’t; with four or more measures of prediction saying the same general thing, this increases to a “relative certainty”. with about 90% probability it will happen and 10% chance it won’t. With human free will you can’t get better than this.

You are using just one measure of prediction.

Alsanik, I don' think that any blockage in your ability to have a loving relationship would be due to Venus retrograde, so much as natal Chiron in your 7th house. Chiron is a planetoid that shows us "where it hurts," but also where, if we stay open to those hurts, we gain in wisdom and compassion.

Love is more than just a one-on-one relationship, although that is magical when it happens beautifully. True love in a committed relationships always has its ups and downs, and relates to much more than just "happily ever after" with one other person. "True love never runs smooth." Love relates to all of the people you encounter.

Your Venus in Aries is getting closer to its trine with Pluto, which is about love as a deeply transformative experience.

I note also that your progressed Mars trines your natal Venus.

Keep in mind that a loving relationship depends upon the synastry you have with another person.

Are you finding that your romance is blocked now? If so, in what way?

Yes, because I haven't had a serious relationship yet (I'm 21). But despite my anxiety, I am an optimist and believe that everything is ahead. I'm just worried if I can express my feelings to the fullest. Inside me, they are really fiery (thanks to Aries), but it is important for me to learn how to share them, and not to keep them in myself, which may relate to retrograde Venus, as I understood from the Internet. But forum members have reassured me here that it's not something I have to worry about.

I KNOW THAT arguing with you is a total waste of time.

However, the OP was not talking about her natal chart. She was talking about her secondary progressed chart, and in that she is correct that as of right now and for quite a while

her secondary progressed Venus IS RETROGRADE.

meanwhile some more detailed information for the OP
highlighting progressed planets going retrograde/direct

A lot of people seem to have problems understanding progressions.
The progressed Planets are nothing more than
very very slow moving transits.
Progressions are very internal in nature, meaning
they're more likely to affect you mentally than physically.

That doesn't mean progressions don't affect you physically, they can,
for example a Planet progressing into the 6th House
or the 6th House Ruler progressing into the 8th or 12th House
or into certain aspects with the rulers of the 6th, 8th or 12th Houses
can signify an illness.

An ephemeris will look something like this:

Date............Sun....... Moon..... Mercury...Venus
May 26 1962 04°Ge28' 26°Aq47' 20°Ge23' 03°Cn43'
May 27 1962 05°Ge25' 10°Pi51' 20°Ge22' R 04°Cn55'
May 28 1962 06°Ge23' 25°Pi05' 20°Ge16' 06°Cn07'
May 29 1962 07°Ge21' 09°Ar25' 20°Ge05' 07°Cn19'

The symbolism is "..day-for-a-year..."
so each day after your birthday
is one year of your life.
Generally, you want to look at 120 days, which is
120 years of your life.

Yes, I know you're not going to live 120 years, but
none of you are special.

When you die, the Solar System does not grind to a halt;
it continues moving. Your chart lives on, even after you die.

There are some things you might want to know about.
Is your Will contested? Does your Estate end up in Probate Court?

Does the government seize your Estate?
Do your children fight over it? Does your spouse remarry?

Maybe you want to come back and haunt your spouse
(or protect your spouse). Do your children marry, divorce,
have more children, do your grandchildren marry etc.
Will you receive any awards or accolades, or publish a book?
No kidding, a guy in Australia found his grandfather's diary of life
in the trenches during World War I. He published it. Guess what?
It showed up in the progressions of the grandfather's natal chart.

Here's a snippet from my progressions
(sorry the formatting is less than desirable):

Natal .. Position.. Action.. Age.. Date .. ..........Location .. Contact
Venus.. 04°Cn39' Sign .....19 ....Jun 13 1962... 25°Cn14'.. 9th House

MC 01°Vi31' Sextile...... 29 ........Jun 23 1962....... 01°Cn15' Sun

All I've done is write out the year in which there is some contact with progressed Planets.

At age 19, my natal Venus progressed to conjunct the 9th House Cusp at 25° Cancer.

How do you interpret that?

The 9th House Cusp is Cancer ruled by my Moon in my natal 4th House.
What is the 9th House? Among things, it's long journeys. 4th House is the home.

I left the United States and didn't return for about 10 years.

See? It ain't so hard.

At age 23 my Venus progressed into the Sign of Leo. I got married.
Because Venus progressed into Leo? Not entirely.

My natal Mercury was Stationary
in the natal 7th House, then
it went Retrograde
and then

it went direct at age 26.
In reality,
I was actually 25 1/2 years old
when Mercury went Direct
in my 7th House of Relationships.

That is one of the advantages of writing out your progressions. When you see something like that,
natal Venus progressed into the 9th House
then into the Sign of Leo while Mercury goes Direct,
you want to actually do a chart for that time period

and then also look at the transits

so you can get a sense of the timing

(in this case transiting Moon conjunct Ascendant).

When I was 28, natal Sun changed Signs and entered Cancer.
Did I become a Cancer? No, but
I did take on some of the traits of Cancer.
I became more sensitive, very emotional and extremely traditional,
plus I took on a few of the negative characteristics, like
brooding and being way too cautious, but
then I was suffering from PTSD and the effects were
starting to manifest themselves in a serious way.

When my Ascendant progressed into Sagittarius,
I did not become a Sagittarius, but I did take on a few traits,
like being really straightforward, to the point of being very blunt,
and also broadminded and quite the procrastinator.

Natal .... Position .. Action ....Age... Date ............ Location .. Contact
Asc...... 20°Sc43' ..Sextile ....90 .... Aug 23 1962 ...20°Vi41' ... Mercury
Sun..... 05°Ge13' .. Sign .......91 .... Aug 24 1962... 00°Vi33' ....Virgo
MC ......01°Vi31' ....Sextile.... 91 .... Aug 24 1962 .. 01°Cn06'... Mars
Sun.... 05°Ge13'.... House .... 92..... Aug 25 1962 .. 01°Vi31' ...10th House
MC ......01°Vi31'..... Con .......92 .... Aug 25 1962... 01°Vi31' ... Sun

There's where I exit stage left. Not because of those particular progressions, mind you, but because of that and other things going on with transits and the Anareta wants to Tango.

The other benefit to writing out your progressions is that if you don't know the houses, signs, elements and natures (and that would be about 80% of you), then you will when you're done. The elements trine, the natures oppose and square, sextiles are always Fire/Air or Earth/Water etc.

I recommend using some of the minor aspects, like the quincunx, semi-sextile and semi-square.

Often in your life you might notice periods where your relationship with your children, spouse, parents, friends, co-workers or supervisors is a little testy and irritating. I guarantee you'll always find a semi-sextile or semi-square there. And the advantage of knowing that in advance is that you can take a "time-out," give yourself a "yellow card," take a different approach or do other things to make your life and everyone else's more pleasant.

Aspect orbs for progressions are 30' to 1° maximum.

In addition to aspects, Planets changing Signs, Houses
or going Direct
or Retrograde

are very important
to note.

For Planets that go Direct
or Retrograde,
flip ahead in the ephemeris
and look to see
if any transiting Planets
are conjunct that point, because
it will be emphasized.

The same is true
if a progressed Planet goes Direct
or Retrograde
at the pre-natal eclipses

or the last Moon before birth
(which will either be a Full Moon or a New Moon).

What if a progressed Planet goes Direct or Retrograde
at the same point where there is a transiting Eclipse
or New/Full Moon for that month? I don't know, but

note it and look at it in detail later.
You can ignore Lunar Eclipses after 3 months, but for Solar Eclipses it'll depend on the nature of the Sign (ie 3 months for Cardinal, 6 months for Mutable and 12 months for Fixed).

After you make your list or table,
look at past events
and see if you can make sense of them.

As I said, not everything will manifest itself
in a way that you can physically see.

Once you get a feel for past events, you can
start looking at future events.

Yes, because I haven't had a serious relationship yet (I'm 21).

Having a serious relationship by the age of 21 is the exception, not the rule. Nothing unusual about you in that.

I'm just worried if I can express my feelings to the fullest. Inside me, they are really fiery (thanks to Aries), but it is important for me to learn how to share them, and not to keep them in myself, which may relate to retrograde Venus, as I understood from the Internet. If you had natal Venus retrograde, there might be a slight connection there. But, as our friend Jupiterasc has pointed out, you don't. Progressed retrogrades don't have the same psychological effects as natal retrogrades. What they indicate is somewhat different. What you find on the internet about retrograde planets in the chart and how they affect your personality is always about natal planets retrograde, not progressed retrogrades, and even then, what some blogger says is not universally true.

For how we process and express feelings, Moon is the most relevant part of the birth chart. Yours is in airy, talkative Gemini. Furthermore, your chart is very heavy on air--more planets in air signs than any other element, and your ascendant in an air sign too--and while your Sun is in a water sign, you've got no water other than that. Water is the element that would feel, and express, emotions in the most emotional way. You may have a bit of that going on with a water sign Sun, but since your Moon and the bulk of your placements are in air signs, it's much more likely that for you, emotions manifest as thoughts and ideas. You don't feel them so much as you think them.

Feelings are not necessarily difficult for you to express if you express them in your own way, but your way of expressing feelings may not feel much like what you think expressing feelings should feel like. That does not mean you're not expressing your feelings. That may mean you don't recognize that you are expressing your feelings.

Again, this has nothing to do with your progressed Venus being retrograde.

Hello! My Venus went retrograde in the progressied chart when I was a child. Does this mean that the external expression of Venus is blocked for me? Am I doomed to love failures until my 40’s? Is it possible to do something about it? Thank you very much.

My natal Venus in the 11th went retrograde by progression when I was about 17 or 18 I think. It sextiles my asc and rules my Sun.
It went direct when I as 62.

I don't think my ability to express love was blocked. Inhibited, or somewhat impeded, might be a better description. But there are all kinds of inhibitions and impedances, and also excesses [going in the other direction] that we encounter in the unfolding of our lives. All that depends upon Venus' connection to other planets in other houses as it retrogrades, and many other variables as well. When progressed Moon meets your progressed Venus in about 4 months, and then your progressed Sun meets it in about 5 years, each time you will experience your Venusian energy and more light may be shed on how your progressed Venus may express itself while retrograde. Further, the beautiful mutual exalted reception between your natal Venus and Sun is something that will always be a part of your loving nature, no matter the perceived progressed retrograde motion of Venus.

Before p-Venus went direct, I still got to express Venus in many, many ways. And I will tell you also that when it went direct, I could really feel it. So you have that to look forward to. And it's really great that you will feel that transition right there in the middle of your life and get to benefit from it for so long through the remainder of your life.

I am truly wishing you the best for all the blessings in your life.

Wow, thank you so much! It was very interesting to read the opinion of someone who also had p-Venus retrograde. If you have time, can you please tell me the best way to turn this retrograde into a benefit and learn all the lessons?
