on the edge

is there any variance in meaning by being right at the beginning or end of a sign? i haven't seen this discussed in any reading, though previously i figured something right at a border might have influence.

i kinda figured, if there were some significance, there would be a term for it :p

also, is there any significance by being right at the edge of as cycle? eg. in the first minutes of aries or last of pisces?

In astrology, a cusp (from the Latin for spear or point) is the imaginary line that separates a pair of consecutive signs in the zodiac or houses in the horoscope.
Because the solar disc has a diameter of approximately half a degree, it is possible for the Sun to straddle the cusp as it moves across the sky.

I was born when the Sun was at 'zero degrees 34 minutes' of Scorpio. I have Saturn, Neptune and Spica in Libra, conjunct my Scorpio Sun. So I have always felt like I kind of straddled the two signs. I feel the unsteadiness of the 'cusp' beneath my feet. :innocent:

The 29th degree of a sign is commonly known as an anaretic degree (traditional influence?). I have never heard of any name given for the 0 degree of a sign.

I was taught that the 29th degree of a sign is like an examination degree of the sign's influence. Do you gain a diploma or not???? The first degree of a new sign is like entering a new classroom; a totally new subject to learn.

I would think that how they are experienced would depend upon the integration of chart factors and the individual's awareness of how and in which manner his/her character traits operate.

I don't have any such degrees, so can't offer any examples of how they act.

i have mars in the first degree of aries, and, checking descriptors of mars in pisces found them disagreeable. except.. i've been involved with art and music all my life ;)

long before i was interested in astrology, i reflected on the sequence of signs and their meaning and was able to (i guess people like to say "synthesize") a coherent progression through them that seemed quite general, so it seems sensible to me.

i apologise to the group for "spacing" on "cusp" as it is one of the more popularly heard astrological terms in my experience...

My Pisces Sun is at 29* 34'.... I definatly feel Pisces, but the Aries is there too... I can be just as passive-aggressive, non-confrontational, dreamy and mist-bound as any Pisces, but I hit a point where I suddenly don't care. I say rude things to people, especially two beers later, and detect a certain rowdy and tom-boyish element in myself.
But that be the main point, is I can feel all my sensitive little tentacles worrying around, but then I get bored and loose interest in minute little feelings and sensations, mine and other people's...... "They" get over it, I'll get over it, on to the next activity!

adding notes to this thread for novice readers (from a novice.. buyer beware, loads of stuf i don't know about)

thread i was viewing on horary just before this one :) mentioned astrological reference "lilly" (awful name) as saying "the first few degrees are too early to tell,"

also, read a few weeks ago, pertinent to houses, 5 degrees precedence (eg. last 5 degrees of previous sign) can be said to be "leading" to next house (though i don't recall which author was referenced there).

i don't think the persons who came up with these concepts knew quite how mathematicians, statisticians and dsp authors would consider them.. :) are we talking mu pan laws here?? :p pow(10.0, -n/20.0);

You're not just a Sun sign though; what else in there in your chart? You may have planets in Aries or other fire signs, prominent Mars, etc. All of these would be influential.
