Obsessive compulsive aspects within a natal chart?

Are there aspects that indicate OCD tendencies within a natal chart? I find that once I am in a relationship I start to exhibit OCD tendencies, such as fanatically cleaning and also perfecting my appearance and picking at blemishes. I looked at my own chart and I don't have any mercury/pluto aspects and my saturn trines my mercury. I have Venus square pluto..would that represent obsession? Are there other aspects? Does anyone have any experiences to share?

Post your chart?

Venus/Pluto (just posted on this earlier today actually) can contribute to obsessive feelings/behaviour, but I'm not sure specifically about OCD.

I have mercury/pluto in my chart and that can do it, as can 8th house planets, planets in scorpio etc, pluto/moon... There may be a lot more to this than what I've mentioned, we'd need to see a chart, but I'd suspect these are the main culprits! I say that as someone with these signatures in my own chart. Mea Culpa :innocent:

Sure, I'll attach my chart. The weird thing is that I did go to therapy about this and realized that my exbf was kind of the trigger for my behavior. His life was beyond chaotic so I became very compulsive about controlling my surroundings and appearance (the only things I could actually control).

I am in the beginning stages of a relationship and I've noticed that I am slowly starting to do some of the behavioral things that I did prior (like obsess over my appearance and weight).

Here is my chart.

Serious OCD here (currently largely "controlled"). But I do have merc square pluto... It's interesting that you emphasize this starts when you're in a relationship - is it only then? Maybe it peaks your stress in terms of desirability and offsets a somewhat body dysmorphic manifestation of the OCD via the venus/pluto (which I think certainly can contribute). Which houses are involved?

ETA - Ah okay, venus in 1st conjunct your ascendant - I suspected as much. I myself have body dysmorphia but my venus is conjunct mars in pisces in the 5th and square neptune in 1st as well as inconjunct pluto (says it all). So that pluto is biting your venus in 1st... I can imagining the square expressing itself in this manner for you - wanting to allure and becoming somewhat neurotic about it (even obsessionally-so), further reinforced by beginning a relationship and wanting to maintain the attraction/appeal. Did you see the interesting article MJ82 posted concerning the afflicted venus/pluto? I think it would be of relevance and at the very least of some interest to you.

That's kind of what I was thinking. I am that rare individual that is in "better shape" (i.e. thinner) when in a relationship than when single. That's the only reason I thought *perhaps* the Venus/Pluto could be the culprit.

Pluto is in my 9th and Venus in my 1st (self/appearance.. ha). And my 7th house ruler is Cancer.

You and I have some interesting similarities in our charts ;)

I think Mars in the 8th may also contribute. Mars is your drive and in the 8th (like with me) I think it can create a strong focus on things, especially relationship-related and can be played out in the context of relationships, sex, intimacy too..

Venus/Pluto I'm sure will contribute, and Jupiter in Scorpio will play into this as well, especially as it aspects your personal planets.

The answer is yes: The planets Mercury, Saturn and Pluto influence the risk of developing mental disorders, including OCD and ADD (and myself with Autism, anxiety disorder and depression) except in my case the Sun-Moon conjunction in Aquarius is theoritically at fault. The planet Saturn trine Mercury has an impact on development of obsessive-compulsive behaviors or traits, and fixations on things like topics and persons (well known OCD symptoms for stalking cases) are linked to Saturnian impulse.

Hello. I wouldn't associate venus/pluto with OCD. I would rather associate with mercury-saturn. (However, mercury-pluto seems also a good sign). Natally I got my scorpio mercury squaring my saturn in aquarius. I am very obsessive with perfection in somethings. And it's very unhealthy remake the same thing over and over again  But if i don't do I will be with that bad sensation things aren't perfect yet :pinched:
Venus-pluto square for me sounds more obsessions in love camp

Dear anjelik.
I think that Pluto squaring the ascendant/descendant axis whilst also squaring Venus on the ascendant suggests lots of control issues to do with the beginnings of all new projects and close personal relationships.
There is a high chance that the Pluto square Venus theme will colour most of these new projects beginnings and relationship control issues.
I would expect that you would be the type of person who could obsess for ages about appearance before going out and be very sensitive to criticism about your appearance from loved ones?

hi anjelik,

i think the obsessive planet is pluto... not sure about the compulsive part, but probably pluto too.. you have a number of connections between pluto - and ascendant 90, pluto to sun 135 and pluto to venus already mentioned 93 degrees or so... the one with the sun is interesting if you think the sun rules the 8th house, as it pulls in a repetitive theme in the astro as i see it, into a house associated with health issues..

the other part to your chart that might have something to do with it is the close moon opp uranus.. moon is about habits, while the opposition aspect is associated with relationship themes.. not sure how it fits in, but the moon rules your 7th so would be more in focus on the relationship front..

and finally, mercury by hard aspect is at your sun/moon midpoint, so this could also play into it.. ultimately even if you figure out the astro, you still have to figure out a way to work it out with the energy patterns that seem to get activated when you form a relationship... good luck figuring it out!

Hmmm I don't know if I obsess for hours, but if I'm not feeling like I look attractive I don't want to go out (but would go anyway because I don't like to be flakey and break plans). I don't know if I'm super sensitive really, but I'm VERY self conscious about any imperfections.

Dear anjelik.
Do you have no ocd patterns that you have to go through before certain types of actions?Im still fishing for a meaning for Pluto square Asc/Dc Axis :)
Maybe playing a game in your head that you have to do before you can instigate a new project?
lol,just fishing :)

No, not OCD patterns per say. So maybe OCD was the wrong word. Perhaps I should have used obsessive. But I do notice that I become fanatical with putting things away and out of sight in my home and I also become fixated on my appearance. Whereas when I'm not into anyone I don't really think about those things that much.

The discussion thread is about planetary connections with OCD, impulsive behaviors linked to Pluto, but the ruling planet of Scorpio and Aries (and to add), when one of these signs serve the 5th house of ones' star chart, increases the feasibility of obsessive/compulsive disorders and behaviors.

I have been checked for OCD and ADD but never was diganosed, while Bipolar or personality disorders and learning disabilities run in my father's side of family (my half-sister has bipolar)...and my Dad's genes passed on autism spectrum disorders, including my nephew.

Not only we need to understand astrological origins of OCD and ADD, what we need to focus as a society to assist and support people afflicted with these neurological disorders. Nothing we can do to "prevent" a child born to a family which they are inheritable, as to have scorpio-5th house and for those with Aries as their 5th, represents high family support. :joyful:

i noticed your 7th house has the sign of cancer which represents the moon.

Your moon is opposite uranus so that could be a factor. And because your 7th house is involved, it could be triggered by relationships? and it is probably the strongest aspect in your chart, it is 0 degrees applying which means you would feel it quite strongly.

I know i have moon opposite pluto and it is very obsessive. I try to control or manipulate my partners. So maybe the moon opposition in your chart has something to do with it. It probably won't be as obsessive as pluto though.

And the square is more internally and the opposition is more projected on to others or your environment.

It may not have to do with your OCD, i just found that aspect interesting.

It depends on the houses, and of course the relationship of the planets. Mercury associated with thoughts, interest, the mechanics of the mind including communication naturally would be at the root of either genius or a thought disorder. Saturn associated with delay, fixation, slowing processes would certainly be indicative of factors involving perseverance, slow resolution, or the rigidity involved in hyperfocus. Pluto, while slow, is more associated with death and rebirth, a fundamental core and unconscious transformation of epic and lifechanging proportions. When these planets form an adverse or harmonious alignment to Venus, then the matter involves socialization, the quality of one's interactions within the environment, including romance, but also objects in general, including personal or those found in nature. Saturn in a harmonious alignment with mercury is in general indicative of tremendous intellectual perseverance, literally, an investigative analytical ability. Now if Saturn is exalted or falling, ruler or in a detrimental position, it would be indicative of its persevering traits coming through either easily or with difficulty. Venus in relationship to both would thus indicate how this involves interactions with people, places and things. Jupiter in the mix would indicate it's magnitude, while Mars the quality of how it all moves together, either through disruption or construction (or both). The houses would indicate in which domains of life all these involve. Of course, following the L-rd's commands lends one the ability to transform all of these cosmic forces in ways that bridge body and soul, heaven and earth, as above so below. Blessings to all, Dr. S.
