I did not say that knives kill as many people as guns do, I said the attacks would happen with knives instead, if the guns were not available.
I am talking about the root of the problem.
We cannot kill off the "root of the problem". We see hateful individuals every single day. Just look at the Trump rallies, or the rally and insurrection of January 6th. Trump and his people approve of the Proud Boys and the Alt-Right groups. That is NOT to say, the Left crowd does not have groups equally dangerous, but the root cannot be killed off except by education and jail time and of course taking away as they did in Scotland when the horrendous Kindergarten shooting occurred years ago, the guns from the citizens which the citizens voted for doing.
Dunblane Scotland changed everything: The USA needs to follow the same course as they did.

In Scotland, Unlike America, Mass Shooting Led to Stricter Gun Laws (Published 2015)
The outcry that greeted the killing of 16 children in Dunblane, Scotland, in 1996, spurred the British government to act in a way that has been a boon to public safety and a salve to collective grief.
DUNBLANE, Scotland — It is a simple plaque for the 16 children gunned down that day in March 1996, set on a small, stone column outside the primary school that continues to educate this town’s young. Built on a slope between trees and overgrown shrubs, it is easy to miss.
But the impact of the loss the memorial reflects endures, nearly 20 years after a 43-year-old man with four handguns stormed the schoolhouse gym in a three-minute shooting spree that seared abhorrence for gun violence into Britain’s national psyche.
Are you saying that an attack that kills less people is not as important as an attack that kills more peole?
I am saying, this country NEEDS to protect its CHILDREN (while working on it's shadow problem)
