Hello welcome AstroCoderNew here and saying hi. I hope some of you might be able to give me some tips on the best software to use for getting charts.
Welcome.... There are a lot of different forums to explore here.
I still find that one of the best ways to connect and share is to keep clicking on 'new posts' ---that way you get in on the ground floor and can have a real time discussion. Have fun,
Kate

Welcome, and I hope you will find at least some of what is posted here useful.
I would suggest it may not be the most prudent idea to give one's real name or physical location
on forums like this for reasons of privacy and personal safety.
Not to frighten you, but since this is the internet, advise you not to use anything resembling your real name or to geolocate yourself; in other words, as much as possible, be X from ZYX.
Please do not give out personal information. No one here has a right or need to ask you to.

Thanks for the link and the Solar Fire suggestion !Welcome to the Forum.
I've always used the free charts pages at Astrodienst www.astro.com. Another good site is Astro-Seek.
I hope people with purchased software will add their favorites. Solar Fire is popular but I can't speak from experience.
Thanks. I may be to much of a beginner for those links though
A sneak peek into the major updateThanks. I may be to much of a beginner for those links though
I have this software (Babylonian Astrology) and definitely do NOT recommend it for beginners, or as a software for general use.
USEFUL INFO FOR A NEW MEMBER:I have this software (Babylonian Astrology) and definitely do NOT recommend it for beginners, or as a software for general use.
I have recently become a moderator The position of this Forum, and of the current triumvirate of moderators, is that members are entitled to their astrological opinions. So I absolutely respect your right (privilege?) on this forum to express strong astrological views, so long as they do not devolve into personal attacks, off-topic posts, or anything else that is not allowed on this Forum.
Zarathu - Account ClosedOne might consider Horoscope, put out by the Church of Light. It does all the basics, and also includes delineations, extensive progression calculations, and astrodynes. It's also fairly inexpensive.
Member Samantha Bean never used, as far as I know, and never advocated, either the Horoscope software or the literature of the Church of Light, written by Elbert Benjamine (ne C. C. Zain).they also advocate that personal recommendation

I've owned some version of Astroldeluxe from John Halloran since about 2000. And John will help you with any problem you might have.
andAnd if you have a question, you can get the programmer John Halloran on the phone or by email very fast. John stands behind what he sells. Many years ago he spent a huge amount of time helping me load the program into virtual PC on a very old Mac.

If anyone here has actually used Babylonian Astrology I'd be happy to compare notes with them.I have this software (Babylonian Astrology) and definitely do NOT recommend it for beginners, or as a software for general use.

each astrologer has their personal preferenceHello and welcome, Astrocoder.
I used SolarFire for many years and think it is an excellent astrology software. It operates on a PC platform.
[A Mac can also be adapted to run SolarFire but it takes a bit of skill and knowledge. The makers of SolarFire write: "We do not officially support Solar Fire on the Mac, but we have many customers who do successfully use Solar Fire on a Mac equipped with an Intel chip, Windows, and a Windows emulation program like Boot Camp, Parallels, Virtual PC or VirtualBox.
Besides doing emulation, these virtualization or "bridge" programs isolate the Windows environment from the Mac environment so viruses can't jump from one side to the other."]
Best,
Ilene

You are welcome. Please keep us updated on your coding, if you would like to share. It sounds very interesting and a wonderful way to really learn astrology. Thanks! SolarFire seems to be well established, very nice.
I have been learning about Astrology for a few years (mostly western) and it is so fascinating, but I am also a coder so I want to try to code something myself to look at my daily chart in the most simple way. It's a hobby and I learn as I go about astrology.
Thanks for the nice welcome
