Mars in the 5th house

People say it is an indicator of no children or bad relationships with one's children or with something bad happening to children.

I have Mars in Virgo in the 5th, ruled by leo.

Does anyone have any experiences/knowledge as to how this aspect can portray itself?

An astrologer once told me it would mean that i would have bad relations with my children. I mean, surely i can have children, since there is nothing wrong with me!

Sounds like a huge generalization, and very negative one—and therefore dangerous.

I hope that's not true!!

I have Mars in Taurus in the 5th.

Mars in the 5th just means you are very assertive in affairs of the heart. You probably like to take risks.

The fact the the ruler of the 5th, the sun, is in it's own house is very fortunate for children, even more so when it's conjunct venus! Sounds to me like the astrologer who said that wasn't looking at the big picture.

I have Mars in the 5th in most house systems. It moves into the 6th in a couple of house systems. I also have Mars conjunct like sun, as you do, though the orb is wider, as well as Mercury and Venus in the 5th house.

I have two wonderful children who are now young adults.

I have heard that Mars in the fifth, or Aries on the 5th inclines towards a sort of barrenness, because the Ram is a four legged animal or something. But so is Leo which rules the 5th house and children, so I've never been sure on that.

But I think Mars gives focus, and Aries has that singular, unitary energy to it. So if anything I would think it would mean fewer children, a closer relationship with children, because alot more energy is being put in.

Anyway I have Aries on my 5th house cusp and I've decided my children, if I have them, will be sports stars. That will trick Mars into playing ball :p

MkM84, I still not sure what the 5th house really represents? Most of the charts I have ever done or spoken about are with people who do not have children, so I would really like to hear parent's observations of their children viz their own chart... and how they think this matches up to their children's chart's observations of their parents!

But I'm normally told the 5th shows what we create. So if we have created and fashioned these children, then maybe it shows what our children will be like, but doesn't show if our relationship will be good. And if Mars is aggressive, maybe people naturally assume aggressive children will not get on with their parents? I was hoping if my children were tennis stars (Mars is in the 3rd) or really good investigative journalists, then it might take the aggressiveness out of them.

I have scorp Mars in 5th, conjunct Venus, I also have my moon, jupiter and Uranus in that house (libra on the cusp).
I have two children who are beautiful and talented (music and writing).
No difficulties in conceiving them (quite the opposite:).

I am modern astrologer that teaches Equal house system and your Sun, Mars, Venus conjunction are in 4th house NOT 5th

House systems
Throughout the forums but mainly in natal astrology there are two main branches Placidus (unequal size houses) v Equal House (whereby each house is same size) but lots more……. For more information on these go here.

I seize the occasion to state my confusion regarding Leo and fertility, as you read in astrological sites that a Leo Moon is considered barren, even though Leo loves children, and like you said, it rules the 5th House and children... :(

Reyka, I not only have Mars in the 5th, but my Moon is also in Leo! And I have two great young adult children, with whom I thankfully have a good relationship.

I am sceptical that a lot of the old, traditional indicators of fertility/barrenness really work.

If you think about it, 1/12 of all women will have their Mars in the 5th house. 1/12 of all women will have their Moon in Leo. Discounting the overlaps like me, that is already 1/6 of the female population. Then throw in the other dire predictions for no children, and it is amazing that the human race survives!

Hey,

I think what always worried me was the fact that Sun and Mars in virgo in the 5th house square saturn which is in the 7th house of relationships.

That part might have inclined to rebellious children. I don't know!

Star2858,

Well considering you ONLY have Mercury in 5th house and Virgo ruling cusp of 5th, dont see any problems.

The square your talk about is from 4th to 7th, ie; family matters, home roots and 'significant other' Saturn in the 7th can delay marrige or commitment until around Saturn return or maybe you are attracted to older men?

Sun conj mars = wilfulness
Mars square saturn = doing ones duty in a cautious and constructive manner
Sun square Saturn suggests a lack of rappor with father or perhaps authority figures.
http://www.cafeastrology.com/natal/sunsaturnaspects.html

Your venus square saturn suggests feeling unloved or uncherished from childhood and that you may always feel that you have to 'give out' twice as much love as that you receive back.

Your Neptune is in the 8th square moon and mercury. 8the house being of sex/conception. Also psychic tendencies, often manifested in spiritualism and clairvoyance. Unusual secret circumstances may surround partners money ‑ insurance, taxes, and inheritance.
Moon square Neptune suggests emotionally oversensitivity and possible disillusionment.
Mercury square Neptune suggests deception or be deceived. Confused thinking, what you want to say sometimes comes out wrong....

Uranus is just inside 7th house conj 8th. This being typical divorce aspect
IF your time of birth is correct of course....

I have Mars in Gemini in 5th house gemini on cusp. Mars is masculine planet theirfore I have two sons, one Gemini one Aquarius. Also Mars in 5th suggests quick labour (which it was)...

You perhaps need to rethink which house system is applicable...;)

I thought the placidus system was commonly used, it's the one i've always used. In the placidus system, as used on astro.com, this is what comes up and i always thought it was quite true you know. EG. the position of Mercury in 6th...i always thought it related to my really critical and worrysome nature towards working.

Thanks for the little analysis. I think Mercury square neptune definately helps when i tell people stories of my life.

I might see what an equal house version of my chart looks like now.

Someone did tell me that Mars portends to a quick labour (i'd prefer that ;) )

There is a big differnce between having 3planets in 4th or 5th. The 5th is also romance, love affairs, creativity, self employment as well as children. I have mars in 5th plus 3planets in 4th and I work from home. But family and home roots is everything to me.....

:D

star2858, As you know, astrologers use a range of house systems for different reasons. A50 obviously feels very strongly that equal houses are the only way to go, but to each her own! A very wise astrologer suggested to me that different people may actually respond differently to different house systems; suggesting that each of us experiement with the different ones till we find--maybe not the one we want, but the one that fits!

In the case of my own 5th house, Mars changes from the 5th into the 6th house in a couple of them. I don't see this as a big issue, I just try to think of Mars in relation to both of them, but to me the 5th house is a slightly better fit.

waybread,
Lots of people don't even know there are other house systems except the default on astro.com and like you want people to research and study for themselves to see 'which glove fits'....
;)

The www.astro.com site, "free charts" section offers a range of house systems: although Placidus is shown as their "default", one can easily scroll down from there and check out other systems such as equal house, Koch, Porphyry, and so on.
