Hi to everybody,

I am new to astrology but very keen on. I am with rising. And in 1st house!

I have been going through a hard period in my life, many up and downs; and somehow I met with astrology and started to take online course. We are using whole sign as our lecturer told us that it is the oldest (Hellenistic) approach.

As I mentioned, I am quite new; just finished planets, signs and houses and came to aspects now.

I am not working now, but looking for a job for 6 months. I saw people in my filed, around me easily find jobs, jump one another. But, I have always been the one who have hard times to do that. Maybe is at work, maybe , not know yet.

It is great to find this community because as I am new and have many questions sometimes.

I am also very much interested in manual calculation, math behind astrology such as calculation ASC manually. If you have any recommendation please let me know where I can start.

The information you require is the date and time and place of birth.
The place of birth is expressed in longitude and latitude.
Universal Time
or Greenwich Mean Time
is required to calculate the positions of the planets.

Hand and/or computer calculating
does not always yield exactly to the minute and second
the same results as from astrological software
In fact,
not all astrological software yields exactly to the minute-second the same results
as another astrological software,
thus a small amount of error is accepted by exams.....'

Welcome SandPaw, I no longer subscribe to some of the methodology JA shared, written by me a Hellenistic siderealist at the time. Although my methodology has been heavily streamlined, I can answer a lot of unrelated (to my methodology) questions you may have about Hellenistic astrology on the traditional astrology board too, as I have studied that material a lot.

Are you interested in exact calculation to use for chart calculation or only in general to get a feel for the astronomy behind it, say within a degree? If it is the latter, you can use a rising times table and divide the times by 30 (like the one here does https://horoscopes.astro-seek.com/traditional-astrology), or more accurately use a table of right ascension for each degree, and add an ascensional degree to the Ascendant for each four minutes of a time. If the rising time of a sign is 30 ascensional degrees, then that sign rises in 2 hours, if 20 in 1 hour and 20 minutes, if 15, in 1 hour etc. The early Hellenistic astrologers used this method, although it is approximate since the rising time of the sign is not uniform from the beginning to the end, nor is the sidereal day exactly 24 hours (it is 23 hours 56 minutes and 4 seconds - that is the time for the Ascendant to make one revolution, or rather for the zodiac to make one revolution around the earth). But this calculation is very easy and involves only simple arithmetic.

I am a newbie, and my interest in math behind raised while trying to understand my exact ASC degree as it was calculated differently from different sites & programs. Some says 2 degree in , some says 19 degree in .

Then I thought, before the programs how people were calculating it. Now, relying heavily on programs makes sense? Therefore I wonder how to calculate and create natal chart manually. I am coming from engineering background. I looked for, but could not even manage to calculate the exact Universal time manually like the ones written on charts (there is 36 min 17 sec difference). Theres should be some straightforward good explanation somewhere. And then I think, there is a way to calculate it using Ephemeris tables. But how?

The second, how these tables are constructed is another topic on my side, but I don't want to get lost, only see to have the idea.

That kind of difference is most often due to daylight saving time. Some software check for DST automatically (they have records), some (like Valens and Morinus) require you to check manually.
