Greetings.
The recorded time for Jim Morrison, lyricist, and vocalist of the iconic rock and roll band of the 1960s' , The Doors, is 11:55 a.m. on December 8, 1943 in Melbourne, Florida. There are a number of posts about the man in a facebook group I belong to. Jim Morrison is a member of the "Rock Stars Dead At the Age of 27 Club", and the 51st anniversary of his death is this July 3rd. He died just a little more than two weeks after I had graduated from high school. Some of the people in my group had actually met him, some even had played with him, were in other groups that played the same concert, or were in the record industry in some capacity, and some that just got to see The Doors play. I read a number of anecdotes and my curiosity about the man led to astrological inquiry.
I have found Grant Lewi's book, "Heaven Knows What", to be quite useful to get a basic understanding of someone from the Sun and Moon combination they have in their natal chart. Though first published in 1935, and although Grant died in 1951, the books' usefulness has not diminished much, if any, over the years. I've been referring to it for nearly 40 years and have found it to be quite accurate and useful. Out of the 144 combinations, for which He provided a description for each, there is one that states the person that has such a combination will adamantly deny everything Grant had so far stated about that person. I was once giving some counsel to a young couple and the man had that same Sun Moon combination, and as I read the text to them the fellow jumped to his feet, and denied it all, just before I got to that very sentence in the book. When He accused me of lying I showed the text to both of them and he stormed out of the room, while she smiled, thanked me, and then left.
Jim Morrison was born with a Sagittarius Sun and a Taurus Moon. I would love to write here all of what Grant Lewi wrote, but I don't know if that is in violation of the one hundred word limit imposed here, at AW forum, or not? To play it safe, I'm just going cover the most pertinent. From "Heaven Knows What", by Grant Lewi.
"You are philosophic and capable of abstract thinking... You will do best in some occupation of an artistic or creative nature, where idealism may find concrete expression and remuneration. Music is especially appealing to you. You are aspiring rather than ambitious, and look for idealistic, rather than realistic, satisfaction from life; if you weren't well taken care of economically...you'd be capable of neglecting the earning of a living in some visionary pursuit. You believe the Lord will provide, and He generally does so far as you are concerned. ...you have the sort of idealism that demands idealism in return."
Grant Lewi then went on to say that if the Moon were conjunct Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, or Neptune, and, or, a Sun conjunct Mars, Jupiter, or Uranus, that there would be considerable luck in the persons life and a likelihood of artistic talents.
What Jim did have was a Moon - Neptune bi-quintile, a Sun- Moon bi-quintile, and a Sun-Neptune quintile, or in other words three points of a five point matrix known as a Grand Quintile, aka a Pentagram. Quintiles are aspects of genius and, in my findings from 38 years of study, in particular the bi-quintitles. There were times through out his life when those two unfulfilled points were filled by transiting forces, especially by the Moon, as it would hit both those two points once every 28 days. So at least four points were filled every month of his life, twice a month. Marilyn Monroe was born with one, fully developed, and which conjuncted her I.C. [aka, the nadir, i.e. the 6 O'clock point on an astrological chart] that is to say, a downward pointing pentagram. That's not to say there was anything evil, or satanical, about the woman, after all, God chooses the time we are born for a tailor made purpose [karmic due, spiritual evolution] it's what one does with what has been given them that counts at lifes' end. A Moon quintile Neptune [Neptune the higher octave of Venus] is a very artistic enabling aspect, and a Moon biquintile Neptune aspect is the aspect of undeniable artistic genius in my humble opinion, if not in the creative then, at the very least, that of a visionary. Put the Sun in that mix between the two and you got the energy of the ego to sustain the impetus and I believe that the creative surely then inevitably follows...as there would then have to be an outlet, some means of expression, that would bring some degree of satisfaction or at least resolution.
He also had a Venus - Uranus bi-quintile, a near perfect one [144°] at 144° 04' 31". Favorable Venus Uranus aspects bestow a fun loving nature that is full of surprises, someone that will generally see things as being on the bright side of life. It gives genuine spontaneity to performers, with a distinctive style, and the quintile aspect is an aspect of a certain genius ability at it. They usually attract many, and a good many, unusual friends and easily attain popularity.
The good fortune that most often is seen to come along with this aspect is usually the result of the joyous outlook on life it bestows, which attracts people of importance and money, as these people radiate the happiness most people seek. It also bestows a lot of sex appeal and they have no problem finding romance. In deeply spiritual horoscopes it is of great assistance towards the spiritual goals, but by itself does not necessarily indicate a spiritually inclined nature to the person.
Grant Lewi wrote that if this person has a Sun square Neptune that there is a "super-romantic" nature to the person, with a danger of confusion through romance. As Jim had a Sun Neptune quintile, which in turn both were involved in bi-quintile aspects with the Moon, I think "super-romantic" could be an inadequate term to describe that side of him... although an aspect of the square is an aspect of frustration and conflict in nature, so as to what the quintile would produce is something I might best just abstain from trying to exactly define but I have to suspect that it does bestow the kind of romantic nature that the ladies found pleasant to be around, to say the least.
In addition to that Venus-Uranus bi-quintile
He had a near perfect Marcury- Venus sextile [at a half a degree of orb] on his natal chart, which is so often the mark of a great writer, vocalist, songwriter. He had a Uranus-Neptune trine [within a two and a half degree of orb] which was in aspect for a good many years, from 1939 to 1945, and is said by reputable astrologers to not be especially significant in a natal chart unless it is angular or heavily aspected... but with all that quintile energy they were both wired into, one can easily say that it was quite heavily aspected and then that is considered to often be a source for genius in those endeavors. It is said to be the source of visualization, inspiration, and desire to aspire to, and attain, the highest Utopian and spiritual goals and often bestows clairvoyance which further aids them.
Jim had a Mercury - Jupiter trine, within a four degree orb which can be easily seen as to be a major source of the desire He had for writing and the study of philosophy.
It's been the observation of many that He was drawn to the study of literature, poetry, religion, philosophy and psychology, and they have pointed to a number of writers and philosophers that influenced Morrison's thinking. At a relatively young age he got into the works of German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche and He was also drawn to the poetry of William Blake.
The aspect is also known to favor those that wish to be published, and given the considerable amount of music He did have a hand in creating and publishing, along with his writings, both prose and poetry, there's no denying that this trine found in his chart was of great influence and providence,
