"...We have so many thoughts
positive thoughts
negative thoughts
coarse thoughts
subtle thoughts
but when you look directly and closely at any thought

or any emotion
perception
or appearance of mind at all
what do you see?

The first thing you see is
that the thought you are looking at disappears.
As soon as you think
“...Oh, there is a thought, I am going to look at it...”
it is gone.

And after the thought is gone, then what do you see?
Between the dissolving of one thought
and the arising of the next
there is a gap, an open space.
When a thought arises, it’s there for just a moment
then starts to dissolve.
When it dis-solves, there is a clear, open space
where there’s nothing happening
until the next thought.

If we can totally let go, rest, and relax
then that point where thoughts vanish
is where we will find our natural liberation
our genuinely awakened heart.
With these momentary gaps
our chaotic thoughts are being quite kind
offering to give us a break and a chance for awakening.
But usually we don’t take that opportunity.
We run right over it.
We are attached to our busy, workaholic pattern
that keeps us moving on to the next thought
the next moment, the next experience.
That’s one of the main patterns of our mind
to always be moving
instead of pausing and resting where we are
even for a moment....."

Is this acceptable to you?

The one who seeks all expensive things,
The one who seeks excessive internal and external things for use,
The one who seeks purchasing new things as much as they are produced,
These three types of people are based on madness.
The one, how much he possessed yet has no contentment,
The one, how much he consumed yet has no satisfaction,
The one who gets bored with whoever he associates with,
These three types of people are based on suffering.
The one who is being busy all the time,
The one who oppresses himself by rules and regulation,
The one who is constantly afraid of losing position or job,
These three types of people are subject to exhaustion by conditions.
The one who competes and quarrel to earn wealth
The one who constantly has doubts and fear of gaining and losing,
The one who is bound by internal and external obstacles,
These three types of people are subject to craziness.
The one who sees upcoming things at this very present,
The one who assumes deep connection between east and west,
The one who reveals all the goodness and badness at the very moment,
These three types of people are on the path of distraction.
The one who destroys environments,
The one who mixes chemicals in foods,
The one who neglects secret of minds,
These three types of people are like a chemical that destroys the world and beings.
Whatever ideas we think of are extremely risky,
Whoever people we see have extreme suffering,
Whatever we learn has an element of great confusion,
Whatever we do has very little benefits.
Therefore, the source of happiness is the sublime Dharma,
Without a misconception on adaptation and abandonment of the four noble truths,
Being diligent in order to conquer one’s mind,
One should attain an ultimate peace of the mind.
Introduce “the Truths” to your own mind,
Propagate “the openness and compassion” to doubtful mind,
Prescribe “the concentration and meditation” to disturbed mind,
Make oneself able to rise on a path that has thousand lights.
Examine your thoughts, whether they are there or not,
Examine your thoughts, whether they are true or false,
Understand through experience what is beneficial and what is not,
Do not follow hearsay of others.
Thus, exposition of the above seven-threefold of difficulties and
The benefits of the Sublime Dharma,
I have heard and saw them over many years,
If these seem right to your mind, adopt them and apply.

When H.H. The 16th. Karmapa, Rangjung Rigpe Dorje

was in Singapore in the early 80s
to officially open and consecrate the Karma Kagyud Center
the chairman of the Center asked His Holiness:

"...Can your Holiness advise us on how to attract good people to the Center...?"
His Holiness then retorted, "....What?!!!!!!..."
"...Only the good people....?!!!!!!"

" ....And the bad ones you don't care....??????"
