For career are you more like your North Node or MC or both?

Hello,

Many astrologers say that you see MC for your career and long term goals..
but North Node is your main area of focus, your soul purpose, where you're going in life

Do others on this forum have careers that relate to their NN or MC?

My MC is Pisces, my NN is Capricorn. My line of work aligns with Capricorn, the only thing I have in common with Pisces is that I move around a lot.
But my purpose is with Capricorn and this reflects in my choice of career.

Just curious on others experiences

Thanks,

Hello :geek:

For me, both, but for someone else, neither

Of course, the 10th house cusp and ruler represents career, social status, reputation, and father in the chart.

But I feel that the Midheaven is often aspirational (not practical for career), unless there are planets in the same sign or conjunct the Midheaven.

For example, if I am a Cancer Ascendant, and I have planets in Cancer, and a Midheaven in Aries and no planets in Aries,
then would I really want an Aries career?

Maybe I would dream or fantasise about being an athlete or soldier or fighter, but this is only a fantasy, not realistic for my personality type! :geek:

Likewise the North Node is often aspirational, often represents a difficult lesson we need to learn in this life, a goal or destiny we need to pursue.

Many people do not 'achieve' the goal implied by their North Node in their lifetime, especially if there are difficult aspects to other planets.

Often the North Node does not involve career at all! The North Node usually involves life in general.

The North Node might involve career if conjunct the Midheaven, or if conjunct certain important planets.

But most people do not have any planets conjunct their North Node, so I cannot see the North Node as relevant to most people's careers.

In my case, I have a Sagittarius Midheaven, and I definitely idealise/aspire to a Sagittarian career (travel, foreign countries, languages).
Yet this is not just a dream, this is real and practical for me,
because I have Mercury in Sagittarius in the 9th house, not conjunct the Midheaven, which further supports Sagittarian career aspirations.
Any planet in Sagittarius in the 9th house might support Sagittarian career aspirations.
(Even Eros in Sagittarius might support Sagittarian aspirations, since Eros is life force and creativity, between Earth and Mars.)

Yet my North Node is exactly conjunct Uranus in Capricorn in the 10th house, and Uranus is the most elevated planet in my chart.
I definitely feel very Uranian, very resourceful and unconventional, yet in a more financial and practical way, in Capricorn in the 10th house.
I do not really want a changing or unstable or fast-paced career, but my North Node seems to pull me in this direction.
I also have Neptune in Capricorn in the 10th, and Eros in Capricorn in the 10th as well. So strong practical dreams and creativity in Capricorn in the 10th

So my Sagittarius Midheaven and elevated Uranus in Capricorn in the 10th house combine, in my case, to decide my career: INTERNATIONAL FINANCE

My Sun-Mars-Pluto stellium in Scorpio in the 8th house also supports a financial career, understanding the real value of things, the heart of the matter,
and also makes me aggressive in investment and business, and focused and well-researched. Yet my Pisces Ascendant is not very practical. ;)

Thank you ScorpioMaria for your insights.

Very interesting view on the MC not being practical. I aspire to be free and not to need money to survive, so then I can be whatever I want, depending on what side of the bed I wake up on. Sounds like Pisces I suppose.

I have Mercury conjunct MC. This shows in my career as being quick witted. But my terrible placed Merc in Pisces has no relation to my career choice or industry.

NN I see as life purpose, the direction you want or choose to go. This has to align somehow with career. Even if you want a family and to stay at home, then that is your career choice or your choice to not have a career, instead to raise a family.

I have four planets in Capricorn including NN, but no conjunctions to NN.

The explanation for your career/chart is why I put "or both" in the thread title lol. I thought maybe there is a pattern in career choice and NN placement. Perhaps not, but either way, MC and its aspects offer no insight into my career.

thanks for sharing :)

Definitely the MC, but if you have NN there, your NN influences your career path in one way or another (Maybe Cap NN natives have some NN influence to their career, too)

:( seems that I would never accomplish a relevant career or life mission?
Neither my NN or MC have any planets or asteroids or aspects (only NN square Venus)
By oposition I've got Juno Conj SS and Mars, Eros, Eris Conjunct IC (forming great fire trine with Moon and Venus on 8th and 12th houses)
Maybe the SS/karma and IC matters will be more important rather than life mission and career?

You can have a relevant career, but you may have to worker harder than some others. Need to see whole chart.

I am opposite to you, my IC empty. I don't have a family but do have a career. I can have a family if I want, but I find relationships more difficult than having a career. Perhaps same for you but other way around.

IC can be your life mission (y)

Probably, as I have 2 kids :)
