Banning is ironically setting someone free and liberating them

There seems to be an impression that it's forum jail or kicking them out of the castle gates. But ironically this means that they're free from the shackles & bindings of this forum and can explore the outside world.

The members of this forum are not allowed to leave the palace grounds and must attend to the emperors needs and desires. Sure you get to wear crowns, collars, wear the most expensive dresses, wear the most expensive fragrances and eat the most exquisite foods... but at what cost!?

To be banished is to be liberated.

Because of course if you're not banned, you have absolutely no choice but to visit this forum often.

You mustn't blame us, Osa. It is not our fault that we are so fun and interesting.

Although, I think that when someone is banned, he will actually want to visit the forum even more. He will be like checking the boards constantly, he can't post, but he won't be able to stop looking. He will see if anybody is talking about him, reading the posts of the mod who banned him. Maybe he will make a voodoo doll of said mod and stick needles in it. Maybe he will get behind a VPN, maybe he will even get a brand-new IP address. Wait, I know all this because....

This part is actually very true. I really think that if I got banned from all the forums I ever went to, I might actually get off my butt and try to build a forum of my own. I have been thinking about that for eons but I never get around to it, because presently having forums to post on is simply too enjoyable, it takes little effort, and it just makes being lazy really, really easy.

If you were banned from all the forums you ever went to, you would be someone who NEVER should run a forum. People who can't be on forums without violating the rules to the point that they get banned can't be trusted to run a forum of their own fairly.

If you really want a forum of your own, start one. Don't wait around for others to ban you from theirs.

Could be fun. People are basically like that in real life, except with having and raising children. Are we as a species are doomed? Maybe.

This would only be true if it was someone who was a real troublemaker. But, a lot of forums that banned me, it was simply for political reasons. Sometimes it was because I disagreed, or argued with a mod about political issues. And a lot of times it was because I thought "incorrect thoughts". And on some forums, you can't even say that you don't trust the government. They just call that "sedition" and ban you. On others, if you have the audacity to contest any infractions you have received or if you not only think but actually say out loud that certain rules don't make sense, that gets you on some list. My point: not all rules make sense. Nor are they all fair. Moderators on forums can be wrong. Just because someone gets banned all the time, it's not necessarily because he has behavioral problems.

I admit that a lot of forums banned me for being racist. You will probably think this is fair. But, to me, there is nothing wrong with being racist. In real life, being racist isn't a crime. And if you boil it down to its essence, you will find that being a racist is essentially being nasty to others. It's just in its own special league cause it's "super-nasty", I guess. But being nasty is not against the laws. So why should it be against a forum's rules? And more importantly, why do these forums act like they are the final and only authority on what's acceptable behavior? Why should being racist be punishable at all? Why can't people be racist freely? This isn't even about racism anymore. It's about some people thinking that they and only they alone can make up rules and only they get to decide what's "correct behavior" and everybody else must follow their rules or else. Well, guess what? I am not going to follow their rules, and I am not even acknowledging their rules. I am telling them, through the act of making my own website, that I play by my own rules and nobody else's.

And it's not just about racism. I was once sanctioned for saying "haha" in a thread to someone who defended trannies. I wasn't even laughing at that poster himself or the trannies. Again, I am not saying that forums can't have their rules. I am just saying that according to my own rules of ethics, my own standards of conduct, I did nothing wrong. And if I think some forums' rules are stupid, then yes, perhaps the next logical step for me to take is to make my own forum.

If that's how you think, you really need to go start your own website. Sooner rather than later.

And when you have to moderate it, you'll see how challenging it can be.

But you see my point though, don't you, Osa? Not all rules are just.

Tell me that again when you, on your website, get people attacking you for enforcing your just rules.

MANY people who've been banned swear up and down it was for unjust reasons when it wasn't.

Not to say there aren't sites with unjust rules out there, but it's much more common for people who've violated just rules to play the victim. People who've been banned for violating truly unjust rules usually just go, "wtf, what a f-ed up site," and move on.

Huh? Not sure what you are saying.

Anyway, why would people attack me if my rules were truly just?

I didn't say people got banned for unjust reasons. I said that they got banned by breaking a rule that's unjust. The ban itself is justified because technically they did break a rule.

And I am sure you know, a lot of sites won't even give you the chance to contest your ban. They just ban you permanently and with no further communication.

Not to say there aren't sites with unjust rules out there, but it's much more common for people who've violated just rules to play the victim.

Some people do play the victims, I don't doubt that. But you should at least try and listen to people's grievance on an individual basis (time allowing) to see if it's legitimate. You shouldn't just automatically side with the moderator.

People who've been banned for violating truly unjust rules usually just go, "wtf, what a f-ed up site," and move on.
This is true, and in fact, I have seen these sites that banned me for being racist turn into some kind of echo-chamber of leftists, anti-racists, and the like. People like me, well, we have to go somewhere, cause posting on online forums is so fun. So, when I (finally!) get my own free-speech forum up, then maybe, perhaps, I will get some traffic? What do you think?

Believe me, they do.

Better yet, don't believe me. Start your own forum and see for yourself.

This one included.

Banned people can reach out to us through the Contact Us option, which reaches pwadm. If he has any question about it, he raises it with the rest of the team. But that typically doesn't result in anyone being reinstated. No one has been in my time here.

So, when I (finally!) get my own free-speech forum up, then maybe, perhaps, I will get some traffic? What do you think?
Perhaps. But it takes time for new sites to rise high enough in the algorithms to get many hits.

Are you talking about search engine optimization?

I don't know anything about all this computer stuff, algorithms and all, but I know that there is word of mouth, as in, people sharing links to sites that they find useful, valuable or that otherwise contain good content. They do this by sharing the site's URL directly. This bypasses the need to rise up in search engine rankings.

I find this to be the best way to reach an audience. It's targeted.

Just want to make it very clear, Osa, I am not implying that any interactions that I have had with the mod team here are unjust in any way. In fact I would say the moderation here is the best I have ever had, because mods aren't eager to ban and they give warnings.

I just want to....create a forum that is the most offensive there is. And then I will send a link to my forum to all these mods from these other forums that banned me. I will put the most racist, most disgusting, most incorrigible, most nightmarish things on it and then watch their heads explode. Haha. I can taste it already. I will probably even say stuff that I don't actually believe in, just to get a reaction out of them. I will defecate on their sacred cow and there is not a thing they can do about it.

Although I am sure that that will mean that even more people will be hacking into my computer, lol. But I am used to it by now.
