Sorry to have to get your attention like this, but I just received another rejection from another literary agent. Ok, so it is not the end of the world, but I'd like to know how to proceed. I've cast another chart to give me some direction. It is "Should I submit to another agent ?"

I used Koch this time because I am readin Anthony Louis book and he seems to like it (and I am still experimenting). Chart was cast on 4 September at 10.54 am in Brisbane, Australia, where I live.

ASC is Sag
ASC ruler = Jupiter rx in 4th, dispositor is Saturn, the book in 10th.
Jupiter is only dignified by term, whereas Saturn is exalted in Libra. They have separated from an opposition.

I noticed that the MC is almost exactly conjunct my natal Saturn. Again, I don't know if there is ANY relevance.

Interestingly, Moon has just opposed the South Node (which dr. farr would say is bad), however it is separating from the opposition by 15" so I shall attempt to read it.

I read somewhere that anything at the degree of the Node means it is fated. Not sure if I am fated to submit to another agent or not submit to another agent. Why do they all write astrology books in riddles ?

The intercepted sign in the 4th is Pieces, which is ruled by Jupiter rx, my ruler, which is also in the 4th. What does this mean ?

Mercury rx, which rules communication, is combust in the 10th. Mercury rules 7th and the intercepted sign in my 10th. So Mercury although in rulership and dignified by term is blocked (?)

I am not sure if another literary agent is signified by 7th or 9th but because this is not about me having a one-to-one relationship with the agent and about me getting published, I will use the 9th. If I were to take the 7th, I would interpret it as the agent not being able to help me.

The Sun rules both the 9th and 10th cusps. It is currently peregrine.
However, it will eventually meet up with the book (Saturn). So does that mean I should submit to another agent ?

Moon is in Cancer, in it's own rulership, which is the best position that it can be. It sextiles the combust, retrograde Mercury exactly and after that, the ruler or 9th and 10th at 1 degree. It will square POF, Mars, then Venus. Mars is on the cusp of 5th and 12th. Venus is on the cusp 6th and 11th. Arguments, perhaps ?

4th house, of home and family/roots is intercepted.

I really do hope you get published. It must be hard and overwrought having completed a book and not knowing who will publish. A friend of mine who is a writer had the same dilemma, very difficult situation. I hope something shifts for you and your work is well received

It is "Should I submit to another agent ?"

Since I don't have anything good to say about the Koch House System, I just won't say anything.

Instead of doing Horary Charts, you might be better off looking at progressions and transits.

For book publishing, you'd want to look at the 2nd, 9th and 10th Houses, the Rulers of 2nd, 9th and 10th Houses and the Dispositors of the 2nd, 9th and 10th Houses for directions.

And also Electional Charts could help you choose when to submit.

Submitting during a Mercury Rx or in a time period when there is a Mercury Rx is probably not a good idea.

Likewise in your natal chart if the 2nd, 3rd or 9th House Rulers are transiting while Retrograde, that probably isn't the best time either.

I concur with Mr. Zemco's observations and opinions, above, except that I think horary could still be helpful in this matter. No question about the Mercury rx point, or about using elections for finding the most auspicious time to submit manuscripts (try the Hazine Election, very simple to do, which I have outlined in the Elections section here on AW under the thread titled "The Hazine Election")

Re: Attn: Dr. Farr & Bob Zemco

(Following is not in accordance with standard horary delineation; following is in whole sign house format)

In delineating this advice-request horary, "should I submit to another agent":
-querent = ascendant = Sagittarius = Jupiter significator
-relevant houses: 5th (business) = Aries = Mars significator; 10th (profession; elevation in chosen field) = Virgo = Mercury significator
-Jupiter in 5th house shows relationship of querent to agent; but Jupiter is rx = querent is self-conflicted about the matter
-Mars in detriment and flees Part of Fortune; Mars also in sign-opposition to Jupiter; this equals - testimony (for continuing to submit to the same agent)
-10th house significator Mercury is strong by domicle and position (in 10th house); however. Mercury is also combust Sun; therefore this combination = neutral testimony (combust cancels out domcile and position)
-Mercury is rx (shows conflicting forces relative to profession of writing and attaining advancement in this chosen profession); further, since Mercury is rx it also flees Part of Fortune and also flees 5th house significator Mars; these factors = - testimony
-Moon plays no role in this delineation since it is "knocked out" by conjunction with the SN (Dragon's Tail)
-Sun, posited in 10th house of advancement in profession, is, however, in contra parallel of declination with Mars (significator of business/agent); this = - testimony

So, it seems clear to me that the "advice" suggested is: yes, you should submit manuscripts to another agent.

@ dr. farr :

Thanks for your analysis. I will study it and try to use the Hazine Election you have suggested to find a good time to resubmit. The last rejection was particularly unexpected. Well, because I submitted the MS on Monday and received the rejection on Friday, making it in my experience, a first in terms of speed of being rejected ! 5 Days !

@ BobZemco :

Thanks for your suggestions and pointers. May I ask, why do you not like Koch ? You have to understand that to a newbie, one pretty much looks like the other, except for whole signs, which looks totally different. I had a brief look at my progressions after I posted this today and did not notice anything out of the ordinary other than a square between my progressed Sun and natal Uranus (which is conjunct my ASC and rules my IC), which is separating in about 4 degrees. This would put it around the time I started writing.

I guess I will have to go look again. I'm trying to find the thread you put with Prof Gumby getting married because I think you said something about squares not being all that bad.

@ Spectrum :

Thanks for your encouragement. It means a lot. You probably realize what the problem is. If you've never been published, no one wants to take you on. If no one wants to take you on, you can never get published. It is like the question of the chicken and the egg. Which comes first ?

My friend started writing several years ago. She had something in mind and the publisher decided another direction, she was with Findhorn. The book is wonderful however as a ready reckoning guide. I still think it is good apart from the type of definition the publisher wanted. It was her first book and then the publisher approached her for another book. I think they like working with her, she is not a temperamental artist and does not dictate the aesthetics of cover design etc. The publisher said she was a joy to deal with, one of the easiest people to work for which is nice :)

cc dr. farr (on the issue of RX)

Unlike your friend, I have no publisher, no agent and am not sure if I will have either. My first book was borne out of sheer frustration and can best be described as The House of God meets The Lucky Country. The latter states that Australia is a "second rate nation run by second rate people, who got lucky."

I did not put it in quite those terms. The latter is an Australian classic, which MOST Australians (published by Penguin) have never read (or are likely to read because of parochialism) but quote often and refer to their country as.

Lets get one thing straight. I love the country and I think it is great however, people cannot get beyond hearing the criticism.

So I called, what was initially written as a masked memoir - with many elements of my own background and life (yes, there are several tracts about my marriage and what a false utopia that is) a work of literary fiction.

I was told that fiction is very hard to push and the agent publisher has to be passionate about it - unlike works of non-fiction. Already there is the human bias for something that reinforces your views, preferences for literature, and then you add to that mix the parochialism I just mentioned.

It all seems very hard.

Astrologically, I had a lunar eclipse to my node at 29' 29" Virgo in the 11th when I started this long journey (think it was a dragon's head, can't be sure).

This year I had a dragon's tail solar eclipse by conjunction to my Jupiter at 17' 20". My natal Jupiter is not rx. It and the Sun quincunxes my Path of Marriage. The next Solar eclipse in Capricorn will oppose my Sun at 15' 45" Cancer, meaning I will get the tail on me again.

The progressed Sun conjuncts natal Moon at less than 1 degree.

I think something is happening. I haven't figured out what.
Cancer.

May I ask, why do you not like Koch ?

For one thing it puts Pisces on my 5th House Cusp which is a total fail.

The only mathematically derived House Systems I can use are Placidus, Morinus or Regiomantus because they put Aries on the 5th House Cusp.

And that's important because that makes the Sun the Almuten of the 5th House Cusp, and Mercury is the Dispositor of the Sun.

I played E-Flat and B-Flat Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, Baritone, 6 and 12 string acoustic, 6 string electric, bass and synthesizers like the mini-Korg, poly-Korg, Roland and a Mellotron. I played out in couple of bands, nothing big we just did cover tunes. That's how I got my first job as a sound engineer (because I used to set up 32-channel mixing boards).

Pisces on the 5th House Cusp don't get it, especially with Jupiter in the 4th House which also has Pisces on the Cusp.

Plus with those charts I have Retrograde Saturn in Aquarius intercepted in the 3rd House and through progression that expands out so Aquarius comes to the 3rd House Cusp right before I entered high school and my life changed a lot especially with respect to 3rd House things.

You have to understand that to a newbie, one pretty much looks like the other, except for whole signs, which looks totally different.

Well then just go with Whole Sign since it's easier for you to move from Whole Sign to another system than it is to move from another system back to Whole Sign.

I had a brief look at my progressions after I posted this today and did not notice anything out of the ordinary other than a square between my progressed Sun and natal Uranus (which is conjunct my ASC and rules my IC), which is separating in about 4 degrees. This would put it around the time I started writing.

Using progressions you can't look for aspects only. You'll miss the boat end up in the water.

Planets that were Rx but turn Direct are very important, as are Planets that are Direct that turn Rx. Any Planet that changes Signs or Houses is very important.

You'd be looking for Planets progressing into the 3rd/9th, the Dispositors of the 3rd/9th Rulers changing Signs/Houses, progressed to natal aspects between Asc/MC/2nd/3rd/9th or transits to progressed.

What about an "advice chart" as well? ie: "What is the best way to get my book published?"

I wish you the best.

@ BobZemco :

I know this is not the place for it, but I have done my homework and I thought I'd show you. Also, I am NOT SURE what to make of ALL of it ! 23, my friend and first teacher would be so proud of me to have come this far. When I met her over 1 and a half years ago I could not even read the short form for the signs !

Here goes.

Natal and progressions for Est as at 5 September 2010.
Chart was cast using whole signs. I picked, natal, progressions and transits in www.astro.com.

Sun which is in the 9th is dispositor of the MC, Mercury, Moon, Venus and Saturn in the 10th. The dispositor for the 9th is the Moon, since the sign is Cancer.

My 3rd, which rules communication of any sort, has Saturn on the cusp. Its ruler is in the 10th, conjunct Venus, ruler of 7th and 12th.

My ASC is 7’ 53” Scorpio. Its traditional ruler, Mars, is in my 11th, disposited by Mercury, which is in the 10th, conjunct my MC. Its modern co-ruler, Pluto, is in my 12th. The dispositor of Pluto is Venus, also in my 10th.

Now for progressions.

Progressed Sun, the ruler of my heavily tenanted 10th is conjunct my natal Moon in 30”. Moon is in the 10th and is dispositor for the 9th.

Progressed Moon, the ruler of the 9th, dispositor of both Sun and Jupiter is square my natal Jupiter in 5”. It is soon to change signs and go over my natal ASC in the next few days (?)

I noticed that my progressed Mars, which is my chart ruler, at 3’ 8” Libra is about to meet transiting Saturn at less than 1 degree away!

Transiting Jupiter Rx is opposing my natal node in under 1 degree. My natal node is in my 11th, disposited by Mercury in my 10th. My natal node also opposes transiting Uranus rx in 15”. They are both retrograding into my 5th.

My progressed MC at 6’ 15” Virgo is almost square my natal ASC at 7’ 53” Scorpio.

Oh and as a nod to dr. farr I calculated my path of accomplishment last night too. It conjuncts my natal ASC by 1 degree plus and sits in the 12th.
Using my natal chart I also calculated my path of love and marriage and that sits GUESS WHERE...exactly on my node, which was activated by a lunar eclipse, like I mentioned !

The short story, I had a mid-life crises of some sort that involved a man, that led to writing. :whistling:

@ Sagicap :

Thanks for your suggestion. I will look into it after I have finished analysing all these progressions and transits to my natal.
