Aspects between Algol and planets/points in the natal chart

How would you be inclined to interpret Algol conjunct the Descendant in the natal chart -- say, at an orb of five degrees? Would you be more likely to see this as someone who experiences partnerships as a source of pain and suffering -- or as someone who causes other people to experience pain and suffering through partnership, even if only inadvertently?

Upon reviewing the natal chart of one of my former significant others -- a man whom I chose to cut all ties with after a year when I found out that he had been lying to me and unfaithful to me ever since we met -- I find it interesting that Algol apparently forms a fairly close square with his natal Venus. I would definitely say that at least when I knew him, this was a man with a distinct propensity for causing other people pain and suffering in the romantic sense (I found out after breaking up with him that I was by no means the only woman he had injured or offended). However, I've also read that planetary aspects with Algol in the natal chart can also be an indication of artistic talents -- and at least in my opinion, this man was also quite talented at writing poetry.

Some interpret the descendant as how the native looks out into the world at the Other. If Algol is prominently placed, then he would see people with whom he is in relationship or prospects for relationship through the lens of Algol's symbolism. If he sees them that way, then they must appear very frightening to him, quite possibly evoking this kind of behaviour which is non-conducive to relationship. That is, in effect, "killing" it.
I do think that the orb is kind of wide. Some say that star orbs should be within a degree, two at most.

Whether or not Algol conjuncts descendent
is entirely dependent on a reliable time of birth

and
if the time of birth is out by just four minutes

then
any purported Algol conjunction to descendant or any angle is unreliable

in fact conjunctions to fixed stars are noticeable
when conjunct by LATITUDE and/or DECLINATION
and not solely by Longitude
"additional tables pdf" above top left of astro.com chart
provide latitude as well as declination and longitude

Fixed Stars are delineated by conjunction usually - orb one degree
"a fairly close square" is unlikely to have the effects you mention
and
the entire natal chart requires assessment
to find the potential for the factors you mentioned

I follow Robson (and others) and only count the influence of the "fixed stars" upon chart elements, by conjunction in longidtude or by parallel of declination; Robson did also allow for a connection by opposition, however I have never used aspects re stars to horoscopic points (including planets)-yet I am an avid advocate of delineating star connections and their meanings and ramifications in natal and mundane and event charts (one of the nicknames given me by some is "Fixed Star Farr":w00t:)

I have algol at about 5 degrees of my descendant/north node/part of fortune in taurus. My biggest fear was betrayal. I had this idea that a partner would perhaps betray me and leave me with all the work, pick up all the pieces. Perhaps this is only to do with taurus on the descendant because taurus' biggest fear is betrayal.

I have Sun conjunct Algol within a degree in the 9th. I also share a Taurus north node.

While I do not presume to understate the violence of Algol with all the fear that characterizes Taurus, I see fear of betrayal more an attribute of Mars-ruled Scorpio.
