Ascendant Sign Descriptions

I guess it will remain a mystery, then. All I have is the time on my birth certificate and getting it rectified for some minutes this way or that seems pretty silly.

I had it done but now I go by the TOB on my birth certificate, because once I began to learn a bit more about astrology, I realized that the 17 minutes advance that would've given me a Scorpio Asc. and nice whole houses, was off because I can't identify with the description of MC in Leo. The MC in Cancer fits with how others see me and my professional past/currently homemaker and what I see myself doing - feel compelled to do even - if my circumstances should change.

I've also wondered about aspected ascendants and the influence of planets or other "things" in the 1st house and their influence on the ascendant, even if not conjunct the Asc. I don't really have anything to add and I don't have great experience with asking the question you asked. Hope you get more responses.

OT - my wording's probably worse than usual. I haven't been able to make myself understood by anyone yesterday/today (Sunday).

I wonder if having too much "stuff" connecting to the ASC or in 1st house ends up cancelling each other out. I mean if Mercury is supposed to make you tall and Saturn makes you short, you'd just be... average, right?

LOL! Good point

I’d just check to see which is closer to the ASC, which is more powerful, and which has more expression (that one is very chart dependent so I can’t help you there as far as generalizations go).

Aspects to the ASC can also manifest physically, but the more powerful ones tend to show more.

My oldest son has Mercury/1st but is VERY short for his age (but so are his dad and I) at 152cm (don't have a converter on hand but trust me; it's short! His younger middle brother is half a head taller and I don't think the oldest is going to grow much at nearly 17 y.o. I don't think he'll even be as "tall" as his dad who's around 168cm roughly 5'5"ft. I'm 4'10"ft. The oldest has followed his growth curve which is two curves below the average on those growth chart curves.

Bunraku's got the right idea here, at least in theory. However, my experience is that Saturn doesn't necessarily make someone short. It limits and lengthens. Saturnine Ascendants, if they are genuine, tend to mean a person who is thinner, leaner in frame, but occasionally very tall. If they are tall they are almost always of the lanky variety.

In reality, you have to also know how the aspect dynamics are working in the declinations, the north-south positions of the planets. A planet can be in the 12th house and seemingly out of range of the Asc, but in fact be the one in tightest relation to it by Parallel or Contra-parallel.

Admittedly, this is pretty technical, rather nerdy astrologer stuff, but it is important for we rectifiers to know.

u might be on to something there. I have mercury in 1st with saturn square asc, i'm definitely on the slim/ lanky side.

I have known several people, male and female with Saturn in aspect to their Asc from any house in the chart and they are all shorter than normal stature - a few have even had tall family genes.

I wouldn't say it's universal, but I would say you could expect it.

I think Elbert Wade described one of the Scorpio rising decans as slender but I suppose there can be other modifying factors.

I'm a 3rd decan Libra rising and I sorta fit the description, especially my face and I have the weight/fat gain "issues" (if you want to consider it an issue) typically associated with this rising sign but I've been wondering if my Jupiter in Taurus might have more to do with this. Even when I'm slim, I have a full/rounded look. Hard to describe. I've certainly never been elfin in any way. I'm short and stocky like the 1st decan of Scorpio rising description I've read.

I am a first decan Scorpio ascendant. That decan makes one stocky, slender or muscular?

I am an ectomorph/slender in body type as I do not gain weight easily. The other position I have in Libra is my Mars in Libra, which also conjuncts my Sun in Libra. My Venus, Moon, and Pluto are all in Scorpio in my 1st House and my Pluto conjuncts my Ascendant.

Could there be an explanation why I am not stocky/blocky despite being Scorpio Ascendant?

Cheers

Check your sidereal degrees.

By choosing a different zodiac on Astro.com. Tropical is default – lahiri or Fagan Bradley can be chosen.

I use lahiri – and the way I determine yourr sidereal ascendant was to subtract 24° from the first decan of Scorpio.

Duenderoja, in Whole-signs, the Asc. locates the entire 1st House (as you know), and I believe appearance is an H1 issue, not just the Asc. alone; so the H1 planets, in addition to how the Asc. is aspected should [IMO] affect appearance. I think going with the Asc.-sign alone is an oversimplification. Please feel free to disagree!

This thread deals with the tropical zodiac. Let's not confuse people with sidereal, please. There are other threads for that.

graay ghost,

Based on your self-description from the previous page and your picture and chart you linked, I believe you are more likely Pisces rising than Taurus rising.

Graay ghost, given Kannon's well-informed, well-considered opinion, I would go with it. If you do, here's an important question for my information--what is your MH in that case? The MH is about how you present yourself to others, which should be abundantly clear in social media. If it's Sag., that would definitely suit you [IMO].

Err, that seems extremely unlikely, because if I was a Pisces rising I'd have been born the previous day.

You sure perhaps not 9-10 degrees earlier w/ Jupiter trine influences?
