All things ASC and DSC!

As a higher ranking newbie, to astrology, and entering into early moderate understanding I'd like to discuss my favorite subject within Astrology. The Ascendant and Descendant I find are VERY powerful yet much of the content on this subject is overlapping and while paints a general idea does not really show how much it really affects our lives.

This forum is really open. I invite all conversation about the ASC and DSC!

How has it affected you physically? How is it aspected? Your ruling planet?

How has your ASC affected your life? How do people respond to you? Is this consistent with what you have studied?

What kind of people do you attract? Is this consistent with your DSC?

These were just some ideas, but anything about the ASC or DSC is up for grabs! I am hoping to hear from a lot of people, and hopefully we can learn a lot from each other and our unique perspectives!

Thanks everyone! Hope to hear from you soon :love:

I have a Taurus Ascendant, but it's a total pain in the butt!

I'm a Sagittarius Sun/Libra Moon, with a BUNCH of Scorpio (which is my DSC, too) in my chart. So my ascendant doesn't "mesh" very well with my personality. I end up a lot less sociable than I want to be. I have a tendency to freeze up and act really awkward and quiet when I first meet people. And I probably don't look very approachable since my default expression looks kind of stern.

(And Saturn in the 11th [square my Sun!] makes it tough enough to make friends in the first place...)

Eh, supposedly the Venus ruler thing tends to make pretty people. I'm cool with that.

I just wish I had something that fit better, like a Leo or Gemini ASC!

Perhaps you can link your chart ghotu?

@Inaworld, I don't think any ASC is better than another! A Taurus asc is pretty nifty! The libra moon does not help you ASC look more approachable or at least help you act more so?

How has it affected you physically? How is it aspected? Your ruling planet?

I have a Pisces Asc conjunct Mars. While I do look like a water sign, Mars somehow tweaks the way I come across - I'm very fit and react very quickly.

I am primarily ruled by a very strong Jupiter in Sag in 9th - I am very strong and healthy and have travelled all my life.

My secondary ruler Neptune is also in Sag in the 9th sextiled by Pluto and opposed by Saturn.

How has your ASC affected your life? How do people respond to you? Is this consistent with what you have studied?

People have a hard time pinpointing me and I have been accused of being quite unapproachable. Once they get to know me, not an easy thing, they see me completely differently. This has been a theme thoughout my life and I have learned to live with it. It doesn't bother me anymore.

What kind of people do you attract? Is this consistent with your DSC?

I have Virgo on the DSC. Not attracted to them in the slightest! We don't speak the same language and I get consistently frustrated with them, especially Mercury Virgo. However, I am mesmerised by the other Mercury ruled sign. Geminis and I get on like a house on fire and I can't seem to be able to avoid them, especially Mercury Gemini. Then again, I have a Stellium in Sag (Sun/Moon/Mercury/Jupiter/Neptune/MC) which would explain this.

I have Uranus and Pluto in 7th (in Libra) and I do attract anything that's Uranian.

I do believe that having Virgo on the DSC is giving me some of its traits though. I am very pedantic and love to work with details. The kind of work I do is also very Virgo (I am an analyst)

What does a watery look like in your opinion?

Is the inability for people to 'pinpoint' you come from the strong Jup in sag?

And it is so interesting how we can be put off with DSC people, yet at the same time seem unable to avoid them. Is it like fate? I question sometimes!

I also like how planets near the DSC can also give us attributes of the supposed to be attracted to. I would think that would create a sense of closeness to people with the traits of the DSC. Am I wrong?

You are correct in that the ruling planet of the ascendant and the aspects to it tell us a great deal about ourselves and our lives.
The descendant, the ruler and the planets in the 7th show the partners we attract, even our best friends and business partners.
The ascendant shows the first impression that is made on people,
our mask or persona. Our body image and particularly our face.
It can be very different to the real person and that can cause problems.

Mine is Pisces with Neptune in the 8th conjunct Venus and Mars. I am typically blue eyed and dark haired and into the esoteric subjects such as life after death, etc that the 8th denotes I have a stellium in the 8th Libra and have been involved in legal matters, confidential matters, am a counsellor who deals in many secrets, many of them sexual and have been involved with corporations, life insurance, taxation, estate matters and criminality. All typical.

. My descendant is Virgo and have never wanted to marry. With Mercury in the 6th Leo I have preferred work partnerships rather.

Oh, I certainly don't think it's a matter of ASC's being better than another! I just don't think it fits very well for me. =)

(for example, I'd love to meet a Virgo with a Taurus ASC. That would be a lovely combination!)

My Libra moon is in an intercepted Virgo 6th house (I'm only just beginning research into intercepted houses, I admit) so I believe the Libra-ness comes through the Virgo filter.

My 11th house cusp is in Aquarius, too, so I'm pretty sure I come off as cool when I'm actually trying desperately to come up with something interesting or funny to say. I come off (or at least feel like I come off) a lot more awkward than I intend!

Obviously that's just how I feel about it. I wonder what my friends would say about it, though. They might have a more accurate insight. Maybe I'm just being kind of hard on myself! =)

I have blue eyes and a very clear/pale complexion which I think give me a watery look. The inability for people to pinpoint me definitely comes from the Pisces asc as there is something quite ellusive about the sign. My moods change a lot, one minute I can be really chatty and warm, the next I can be cold as ice depending on the environment I am in...

So sorry everyone! I had terrible computer problems that kept me out of the online world!

@Charlie

I'm still learning about just how powerful the ruling planet is. It just seems so vast.

But even with virgo dsc, you would still have some desire for romance, correct?

How do you feel about working in subjects that actually line up with what astrology said you'd partake in?

@Inaworld

How would you describe libra-ness going through virgo? Intercepted houses are houses that are completely caged in without expanding to a house cusp, correct?

Do you find yourself tangoing with scorpio characters?

@Naomi

Interesting how both Sag and Pisc share that ... movement about them! For different reasons of course, but all the same. And how do you feel your emotional state is compared to that of someone with scorpio asc or strong scorpio influence?

I am loving all these responses!

My emotions are very intense, consuming and affect my whole being. My Moon (Sag) is conjunct my Sun/Mercury/Jupiter/MC, squared by ASC/Mars in 1st on one side and by Pluto in 7th on the other side (angular t-square). It also gets a sextile from Uranus in the 7th. I don’t think I need to say more…

I have Aries ASC--with Mars in Aries, too, taking full charge of my chart. I can be a bit impulsive and I'm definitely energetic about starting new projects, but it's all tempered by my 6th House Virgo Sun, which demands I slow down and consider any and all plans fully before I get too carried away. It causes a bit of a personality rift, actually; what usually ends up happening is I want to say or do something, and just as I'm about to leap my Virgo side pulls me back.
My DSC is in Libra, but I honestly only know one. Venus, it's ruler, is in Cancer though, and in addition to my best friends all seeming to be Cancers I definitely have the hopeless-romantic thing typical of that placement down. The DSC perhaps shows in that I dislike conflict and prefer when two people work to try to understand each other.
I read in one of my books that while the DSC describes how you interact with people and to an extent the sort of person you find attractive, the Midhaven can also be indicative of the type of person you could be attracted to and get on with. My MC is Capricorn, and I have to say I do tend to gravitate towards them. Lots of my friends have Capricorn prominent in their charts, and the man I love is a double Capricorn with a stellium in that sign. Anyone else have anything to support the MC idea?

I found this blog, which sort of describes what I just sort of was guessing at from my own chart about the IC/Midheaven being important in synastry. As the ASC is how we initially react to things or present ourselves, the IC is our true inner psyche/the root of ourselves; and as the DSC is how we initially relate to others and what we initially look for in relationships, the MC is more long term and deals with greater goals. The DSC might be described as being more descriptive of our teenage years, dealing with crushes, attraction, young love, while the MC is more descriptive of our goals for later in life--which for many includes marriage. I guess you could say the MC finishes what the DSC starts.

theinnerwheel.com/2009/10/13/synastry-studies-the-mcic-part-two-aspects-and-inter-aspects/

I just found this really interesting as, despite the general theory that opposites attract and opposite signs complete/balance each other, the statistics don't really support the idea.
