It’s depressing and reality it’s hard. We work to pay taxes. We are supposed to work to live. Instead we are living to work.

Uranus the rebel turns it all over. The rebels won’t pay taxes e,g illegal drug dealers.
It Pluto in Capricorn who catch the naughty ones out.

The word "...planet" originally evolved from the Greek "planetes aster..." or "...wandering star..."
and referred to the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Mars, and Saturn whose motion could be detected against the backdrop of fixed stars
that are stable in their relative distance from one another, but all move together as one large group.

i.e.

in the myth Ouranos is the tyrannical dictator, not the freedom fighter :smile:

meanings of the outers have been assigned to them
based on mythological interpretations
or perceived mundane events happening
around the time of their discovery.
mythological meanings are cherry picked
and often nonsensical

Most people are not illegal drug dealers :smile:
To explain further, there are a few philosophical issues that arise when using the outer planets.

Astrology evolved alongside ancient optical theories
and these theories still permeate astrological discourse to this day.
Planets in aspect are said to "see" or "regard" one another
and their light is often considered a transmitter of their influence.

An issue with the outer planets is

that they lack much of the tools that the classical planets have.
This isn't just referring to dignities (though that is a large part of it),
but they also lack nature, sect, gender, years, winds, orbs, signatures, etc.
its significance really cannot be overstated.
Without these associations
the outer planets are essentially blank orbs without instruction or meaning.

the meanings contemporary astrologers have given to them.
Mostly either
1) don't make sense within their own context
or
2) are already taken by another planet.

The mundane events are definitely cherry picked
as there are many important events happening around the world
at any given time. Pluto was discovered in 1930
and has taken on an association with nuclear force
but when I hear 1930s I think Great Depression
and I've never heard anyone associate Pluto with financial ruination.
each of the outer planets have significations
that are plucked from the classical planets.

Uranus's reported instability and recklessness can be found in Mercury and Mars.

Neptune's illusions and mysticism can be found in the Moon.

Pluto's transformation and general heavy-handedness
are the domains of Mercury and Saturn.

the classical planets meanings and significations
are much more multifaceted in the tradition.

It's not unusual to have differences of opinion on our forum :smile:

many of the things represented by the modern Pluto
are incompatible with most of the traditional teachings.
1) "...aberrations...", such as pluto ruling Scorpio (instead of Mars)
or ruling sex, death, and the many more things
that have been claimed to it.
most of the attributes linked to pluto are borrowed
(rather stolen)
from other planets;
mainly from Mars and Saturn.

When we look at the many things pluto represents to modernists
we see a weird mix of the other planets.

2) these aberrations are presented to us with no reasoning
or explanation behind them.

It is "...just because.."
No one explains why pluto does any of these things.
No one gives evidence but saying stuff like:
"...pluto transiting your 2nd house, that is why you have money problems..."

3) the interchangable nature
and
the many more significations that pluto recieves.
Some go from treating pluto as an extreme malefic
(associated with violence)
or
as a good benefic
(positive and idealistic changes).

as if authors on the subject apply
anything that crosses their minds into pluto.
Seems rather odd that the planet can be both good or bad
and mostly at the authors will.
If someone needs to explain something good they use pluto
something bad, they use pluto too.

It seems pluto is rather used
as a tool to explain things that don't seem to fit into modern astrology.
4) the 7 classical planets explain everything.

Pluto really adds nothing new.
So why use something that can't give us more info?
5) pluto doesn't reflect light, can't be seen with the naked eye.

It is a small asteroid
with many more similar asteroids orbiting the sun.
and so
If you are going to use pluto
why not use Europa (jupiter's moon)?

pluto seems like a perfect solution for ignoring all the other stuff
that needs to be accounted for by modernists

It seems like an easy solution for modern astrology to explain things
that are complicated to explain.

Cusp of 4th house = 18 Leo
Cusp of 5th house = 18 Virgo
Cusp of 6th house = 18 Libra
Cusp of 7th house = 18 Scorpio
Cusp of 8th house = 18 Sagittarius
Cusp of 9th house = 18 Capricorn
Cusp of 10th house = 18 Aquarius
Cusp of 11th house = 18 Pisces
Cusp of 12th house = 18 Aries

Now it is these "cusps" (sensitive degrees, original meaning of the word "cusp" as a "point") that are (and were) used for progressions, timing of events, etc, and the fact is that they work for these purposes, quite well (in expert hands)

Whole sign does not use the BORDERS between houses (always 0 degree of any sign) for anything, but it DOES use "cusps" (points in the house, projected from the exact ascending degree) for timing (and other) delineative purposes.

Whole sign suddenly vanished (both in the West and in Vedic astrology) during the same period of time-ie, late 8th to early 9th century - this sudden disappearance suggests a sudden turn in astrological thinking and practices, rather than a gradual supplanting of a less effective traditional method (whole sign) by a new and more effective method (rheotrius/alchabitius in the West, and the closely related to whole sign Equal house, in Vedic astrology)

For me, there is only 1 reason I switched to whole sign-it worked better (FOR ME)

I could care less if it were the oldest house system (which it is) or whether it was invented by Badda Bing at Barney's Beanery in Bayonne, 10 years ago: only things I consider are:
-does it seem to make sense?
-does it "taste good" to me (ie, does it "feel right" to me)
-and, if yes to the above, does it work (producing delineations and predicitions) better than what I have previously been doing?

Well, whole sign did all that, for me, so I switched; but I am not going to try to convince anyone of anything about it, except for beginners-to you who might just be starting out, I would say: try whole sign first, and see how well it might work for you...

Modern day slavery is terrible and without funds, living can become difficult, to say the least.

Something to think upon: Our lives are so, so special. Each moment of every day is unique, happening once and never again. Each breath we take is unique, short ones, long ones. On every intake of air, we are reborn. Every exhalation, we die.

My point with that? Don't let the external world ruin your uniqueness. Appreciate each breath, each second, every moment and life will become easier.

physical '...chains...' and '...whips....' associated with past slavery
continue in various forms all over the world in 21st Century.
as in
physical violence
experienced by those in abusive relationships
often work-related
who although not '...physically chained...'
nevertheless
feel too intimated to walk away from their '...keeper...'
as well as
non-physical bondage
which uses the '...chains...' and '...whips...'
of threats and intimidation
or
FEAR OF THE CONSEQUENCES OF HAVING NO MONEY
- i.e. homelessness, social exclusion
– successfully keeping billions in bondage
on a work-related treadmill of drudgery.
Obviously there ARE those who love their work
and/or daily activities that they perform in return for money :smile:
many have to
or
are forced to
accept work
and/or daily activities beneath their skill level
IN RETURN FOR RENT & FOOD MONEY
- even though many have diplomas/degrees
and qualifications of varying kinds
but are unable to find the work they are qualified to do
and so
their work is in fact a form of abhorrent bondage

others experience
being '...born into slavery...'
- due for example to having drug addicted parents
....it can mean persons in bondage: legal, financial, marital, fettered by chronic disease, debts, etc; also "wage slaves" locked into jobs they dislike but from which then cannot free themselves; to me it can also mean bondage to habits/compulsions/obsessions, from which it is not easy to free oneself.
I think the vast majority of us are slaves. There are no physical constraits like chains and whips but there are social and govermental constraints. We spend around 70% of our lifes in education and work so we can earn money to keep ourselves alive. We have no other choice, we cannot say no. We also have to pay for our own safety. We all have to conform to social convensions so we aren't shunned by others. I'm grateful in a way that I live in a western country though, what an oxymoron.
