Unlike the glorious New Moon we just had in fun-loving Leo, this Solar Eclipse in meticulous Virgo might just prove to be a tricky one. With a tense “T square” and a handful of challenging aspects, this Solar Eclipse is really asking us to buckle down and get right to business. That’s not to say there isn’t great potential in this Solar Eclipse – because there certainly is! It just might take some work and patience to get there, that’s all.

This Solar Eclipse will highlight a major aspect that has influenced us all year-long, Saturn square Neptune. This tricky transit has brought with it all the “doomsday” energy that’s been lurking around everywhere, mainly in the form of fear and paranoia in news stories and political scandals. Please don’t let any of this nonsense distract you from your soul’s calling -and more importantly – your happiness. There is an incredible influx of positive and uplifting energy being downloaded on planet Earth right now. Things that are of lower vibrations – ego, fear, guilt, etc. – are no longer being supported, and they are falling away as quickly as I write this article. Do not give into this fear!

Just know this, there IS a bigger and brighter future ahead, and an end to all this poisonous fear. Later in the year, Saturn trine Uranus will bring with it a wave of new and exciting changes to humanity. Of course, we can’t get there without a little bit of trial and tribulation first. As they say, “it’s always darkest before the dawn.”

New Moon/Solar Eclipse Meaning
What’s so fascinating about these two lunar ceremonies is that they affect all signs of the Zodiac. True, you may feel it more if you’re a water sign (Scorpio, Pisces, and especially Cancer), however, the Moon is the ruler of human emotions and the conscious mind – and since the Moon is the closest planet to Earth – it’s effects can arguably be as important as one’s Sun sign. With that being said, I just love how these two lunar ceremonies bring new opportunities, beginnings, and chances for all! These aren’t like those exclusive aspects that can only felt by some – far from it! – these aspects are all about equality, and they allow for anyone to receive a fresh start.

A New Moon represents the end of one cycle (in this case – the previous New Moon in Leo) and the beginning of a brand new 28 day cycle. It’s a time where the Moon literally sits right next to the Sun (conjunct) and opens a portal where all possibilities are now possible to achieve. Whenever these two luminaries get together, it’s a sign to let go of all that is no longer serving you and to open your arms to all the positive life-changing opportunities being presented to you. While a Full Moon represents the reaping and crystallization of our goals, a New Moon is all about initiating new plans, projects and goals that will help to usher in these changes that we are seeking in our lives. What’s so special about this New Moon is that Leo – the natural ruler of the Sun – is feeling right at home with this mighty lunar ceremony. This means that any new projects you start during this New Moon will receive an enthusiastic boost of the Lion’s energy, and if nurtured on a regular basis, can reap really sweet rewards.

As I’ve mentioned in previous New Moon reports, the New Moon opens a portal that remains open for 10 days after the start of the New Moon (in this case, until September 11th). During these first ten days, the energy of manifestation is fertile, which means that any “seeds” we plant now will have the chance to reap by the tenth day of the Full Moon, and will have a chance to help us for one whole year after that, till the next New Moon in Virgo on September 2017. This is why I always insist for people to start their goals and plans exactly on the New Moon, so that you have ten whole days to put in all the work and effort into manifesting your desires. The absolute best time for making a fresh start and for beginning new projects is the first week of the New Moon, and the last week of the Full Moon.

The horoscope for a Solar Eclipse is like a snapshot in time, but like old style photography, it takes time to develop. The Solar Eclipse in Virgo will remain active until the next Solar Eclipse in February 2017. In two weeks, the September 16 Lunar Eclipse will add its own influence to this new eclipse cycle.

New Moon in Virgo
A New Moon Solar Eclipse occurs in the sign of Virgo early into the day on Thursday, and its effects can be felt up to six months after the actual date of the eclipse. With the sensitive moon in the sign of Virgo, work and health matters will be a major focus on a personal level. This eclipse is about new beginnings regarding work, attention to details, fitness, health regimes, and daily routines. This is a time when we should build our powers of healthy, constructive discrimination; learn to be more pro-active; start a new health and fitness routine; set up specific routines that will help us manage our lives in positive, mindful ways; and learn the “power of now”. Virgo is the organizer of the Zodiac, so this is also a time when we can learn to master the “little” details of our day-to-day lives in a more organized manner so that we can free our minds of clutter.

Solar Eclipse – September 1, 2016
1. Saturn square Neptune will prove to be the most challenging of all the aspects. It isn’t technically tied to the Solar Eclipse, but since this aspect is preparing for its third climax point (on September 10), I can see this energy affecting this Solar Eclipse as well. With this affect, it’s very common to feel extra sensitive to criticism and authority (Saturn) from others, as your insecurity (Neptune) starts to rise. This is a direct effect of strict Saturn trying to blend his serious energy with mystical Neptune – it just’s plain difficult! Especially with all the recent fear and violence in the news and around the world, it’s perfectly understandable to feel like you’re “lost in a daze” right now. The best way to use this planetary energy is to accept the fact that many people are less than honorable, and strive to see the “person” rather than your ideals of that person when interacting with others. (Neptune likes to pull the veil over our eyes sometimes). Of course, creative endeavors are very good outlets for all this unstable energy – especially those that result in tangible (Saturn) results like wood working, gardening and sculpting. Either way, Neptune rules ALL art, so any creative endeavor will do. Also, like I mentioned above, don’t buy into any of the fear on the news or that you may hear by word of mouth, there is definitely a brighter future ahead for us all!

2. Sun opposite Neptune is another main aspect of this Solar Eclipse. Much like the aspect above, this one works in a very similar manner. Nebulous Neptune is notorious for “fogging” up our clarity, and he can be pretty deceiving at times, tricking us into seeing what we idealize in other people. (So be sure you are clear about your intentions, this will help in attracting the right kinds of people into your life). With this aspect, it’s also very common for life to take you in a very interesting direction, and if not focused, it can leave you wandering around in circles. The solution? Set clear and measurable goals right now, otherwise, serious Saturn is going to have to pull you back down to reality. Also, creativity and intuition (Neptune) are extremely accessible with this type of planetary energy (as with all oppositions to Neptune). So if you have an interest in any of these areas – or even a curiosity – go ahead and try them out! Chances are, they will help to clarify any confusion that may be caused by this deceiving aspect.

3. Sun square Saturn continues the list of tricky transits this Solar Eclipse. I won’t try to sugar coat this, you’ll need to work hard for this one. The mighty Sun is the ruler of our self-expression and personal identity, and boy does he love to shine! Saturn, on the other hand, is like the “strict father” of all the planets, he wants to make sure you have worked hard and earned your right to express your self first. Even though we may not like this sort of discipline, it is necessary in order to inspire hard work and determination in our daily lives. So even though life may seem like one big obstacle after another right now, the best bet is to tackle each one head one, fearlessly! This in turn will bring you well-deserved success (Saturn loves hard work). Just make sure you also work with others during this time. You may seem like you can do it all by yourself (Sun) but life knows that – in reality – “team work makes the dream work” (Saturn).

4. Mars conjunct Saturn isn’t as tense as the other aspects, but it definitely has potential to cause some ruckus. Mars will always say, “Go! Go! Go!” Saturn, on the other hand, will pull back and ask, “Are you sure you have everything in order first?” This type of back-and-forth energy can be very unstable, and if not channeled correctly, can lead to sudden – and aggressive – outbursts (which of course you regret later.) The trick with this one is to find a physical outlet that you can do to release all this pent-up energy inside of you. Sports, exercise, Yoga, group activities and traveling are all ways you can channel this energy constructively. Saturn may be serious, but he’ll loosen up if Mars finds the right outlet to express all that fiery energy!

5. Mercury conjunct Jupiter is the ray of hope in this “gloomy” Solar Eclipse. With this aspect, positive thinking can help you to overcome any of those fears and insecurities caused by the previous aspects. Mental Mercury is feeling extra hopeful now that expansive Jupiter is giving him a hand, so even though Mercury is in retrograde, you should be feeling a “wider and more optimistic” frame of mind. Since Jupiter is the lord of good fortune, lucky energy will stick to our thoughts like magnets to a fridge, and make it that much easier to attract what it is that we desire. Use positive affirmations and daily meditations to help you manifest your desires at an even faster rate. I like to say things like, ” I am abundant”, “I am loved”, “I have all that I need”… things of this nature. It may just be my Pisces rising speaking right now, but I really believe this is the trick to attracting what you want into your life. Yoga and daily meditation wouldn’t hurt either. If I were you, I’d give these things a try. Just imagine; you could have all that you’ve ever wanted in your life, all you have to do is change your mentality and past way of thinking. It’s definitely worth a shot!

With Love and Light,

Jacob Hulbert

I have been experiencing a bit of this chaos and turmoil already. Lots of things going on around me---a family member passed away suddenly, feeling shocked----another family member in the middle of moving while working full time and feeling stressed---another family member overwhelmed with a stressful work situation and trying o cope---another one is having financial strain and no sleep while starting a new business---

So I am feeling the effects of all of the stressful aspects culminating in the imminent eclipse. Reading your well thought out interpretation has helped me to keep it in perspective...

I wanted to start such thread. Isn't solar eclipe in Leo? Saturn still in scorpio until Jan. When I looked at the sky, sun was in leo http://neave.com/planetarium/ (http://neave.com/planetarium/)

And I've found a lot of food poisoning recently to my family members, although they are not connected between themselves. My mother is leo rising, so eclipse is now in her ASC (in my chart in 4th house, house of mother), I just called her, she's not very well, her mother almost died (my grandma)

In tropical zodiac, Sun is in early Virgo and Saturn is in early Sag.

Are you referring to Sidereal, maybe?

Yes. For some time i look at the sidereal mostly. Anywhere i can find,, planets in sky are matching sidereal. I have no telescope to confirm. But some people do, so I would be happy for guidance. I've found this sidereal-tropical thing confuses me a lot

I wouldn't bother with the sidreal ones.. they never work in my opinion. Tropical/Placidus would be your best bet, especially if you plan on being an Astrologer in America. Vedic has interesting points - but in my opinion - is actually innacurate. I definitely feel more like a Pisces rising than an Aquarius rising (sidereal), I am highly sensitive and I do not come off independent and "detached". That's the big reason why I don't use Sidreal. But hey, try it out for yourself. Looks like you need a little more research though... :)

As myself I had this inner discussion to choose beween Gemini (tropical) and Taurus (sidereal) and actually they both make sence when I look at the placements

Solar Eclipse – September 1, 2016

Yes it is. Saturn was in square to the eclipse. That ties it in.

Katydid, was the eclipse on a natal planet or sensitive point for you, and/or did you have a solar return close to the eclipse?

My birthday is tomorrow y'all!
V, how has this year played out for you? I'm curious how it's working for people with solar returns close to the eclipse. Mine was 2 1/2 weeks before, and the eclipse happened conjunct my natal Venus and square to the Saturn/Mars conjunction I had on my SR AC this year.

Interestingly, I had a very Saturn/Mars kind of situation going on in my workplace for two months after my solar return--and the key developments all happened on days when the moon was in Virgo or Pisces. At first, I thought the moon transiting square to the Saturn/Mars conjunction had something to do with it--then I realized that when the moon squared that conjunction, it was also transiting over either the north node or the south node, triggering the eclipse point.

The situation ended with a coworker getting fired, based primarily on what I reported, and the incident that led to that took place on a moon in Virgo day, during the very hour when the moon transited September's eclipse.
