This isn't exactly a decumbiture (http://www.skyscript.co.uk/decumbiture1.html) because I did not "fall ill and decide to go and lie down," but about an hour ago I experienced a sharp pain in my chest in the heart area that immobilized me for a few seconds and created a chart for the moment to see if any details or possibly the cause could be revealed.

I'm not sure if I should be concerned or not because this is not the first time this as happened, yet it is unfathomable to me that there's something wrong with my heart; I eat pretty healthy for someone my age and am not overweight.

I do not know much about medical astrology, but I do know that Leo rules the heart.

Is there any way to tell from the chart if this is a symptom of a more serious condition or simply a result of stress? Virgo is rising in this chart, and I know the sign is known to be something of a hypochondriac, but I don't like that I'm signified by retrograde Mercury conjunct the sixth house cusp, but at least Aquarius is not the worst sign for Mercury to be located in. Neither do I like that the only other retrograde planet in this chart, Saturn, is the ruler of my sixth house cusp and in the house of secret sorrow and undoing--also the house of the unconscious. Does this mean that I have a problem that I am not aware of? Also, what's up with culminating Mars? Should I be concerned that the Moon is in its fall in Scorpio and applying towards a square with Mercury, my significator?

For once, I'm actually hoping that my fears have simply gotten the best of me...

Any help with this chart would be greatly appreciated.

Well, Arian Maverick, I checked your natal chart, besides this chart you posted. Your stellium in Aries might give you some health problems and your 6th house of illness is ruled by Leo and the Sun. This means that you might suffer some heart condition at some point in your life, besides problems in your back.

I am not going to write about every health aspect you have in your chart, but it's enough to say that there are some aspects that seem to indicate the possibility of heart problems. Please, remember that having chances to suffer from something doesn't necessarily mean that it has to be that way.

Your transits right now might be triggering something, but don't panick. It could only be a spasm in your gallbladder that feels as if it's your heart. It happens too that these spasms reflect in your reproductive area, as this is observed in women very often, when the gallbladder is having some problem.

If you have had a cold lately and have been coughing a lot, then bruised ribs could be the problem. The pain from bruised ribs (chondritis) is really a bad, stabbing pain and can be confused with heart pain also.

I would suggest (if you didn't do it after feeling this pain in your chest) that you have a medical check as soon as possible, to determine if there is a problem. It is true that it's hard to relate a heart problem to someone as young as you are, but it's much better to be sure once and for all.

When I finish with it, I can send you the analysis of your chart from the medical- astrological point of view, should you want to see it.

Good luck!:)

Thank you, everyone, for your opinions and advice :)

Carole,

Your stellium in Aries might give you some health problems and your 6th house of illness is ruled by Leo and the Sun. This means that you might suffer some heart condition at some point in your life, besides problems in your back.

I hadn't even thought of this; I knew Leo was the sign on my sixth house cusp, of course, but I had erroneously assumed that I would enjoy good vitality and health because my natal Sun is exalted in Aries and has accidental dignity in the first house.

I believe there may be a double emphasis on Leo because my natal Sun-Venus-Mercury conjunction is located in the Leo decanate.

I am not going to write about every health aspect you have in your chart, but it's enough to say that there are some aspects that seem to indicate the possibility of heart problems.

I suppose those square aspects from my Saturn/Neptune conjunction don't help much.

Please, remember that having chances to suffer from something doesn't necessarily mean that it has to be that way.

I'll try to keep this in mind; thank you for the reminder :)

Your transits right now might be triggering something, but don't panick. It could only be a spasm in your gallbladder that feels as if it's your heart. It happens too that these spasms reflect in your reproductive area, as this is observed in women very often, when the gallbladder is having some problem.

This is good to know; I seem to recall reading an article that Aries women were prone to reproductive problems, and I was somewhat surprised at this because Scorpio traditionally rules this area.

If you have had a cold lately and have been coughing a lot, then bruised ribs could be the problem. The pain from bruised ribs (chondritis) is really a bad, stabbing pain and can be confused with heart pain also.

I haven't had a cold lately, but this doesn't mean that I might not get one, especially since my mother made chicken soup last night for my father for this reason. I don't think this could explain the stabbing pains, though, because--knock on wood--I haven't had a cold for months.

I would suggest (if you didn't do it after feeling this pain in your chest) that you have a medical check as soon as possible, to determine if there is a problem. It is true that it's hard to relate a heart problem to someone as young as you are, but it's much better to be sure once and for all.

I just wish I had discovered this prior to the beginning of the semester; it would have been so much easier.

I actually had a checkup last year because it was required of all students entering my college, and I don't remember my doctor mentioning anything about this. Whom should I schedule an appointment with--my regular doctor or a specialist?

When I finish with it, I can send you the analysis of your chart from the medical- astrological point of view, should you want to see it.

I appreciate this more than you can know; thank you!

Liquid Green,

can i also add lungs please.....I have this feeling your not a smoker arian, but the lungs can sometimes feel like the heart.....I hvae had stabbing pains in my lungs in the past that i have freaked thinking was my heart.....I doubt you only have to be a smoker to get these pains though.....

You're correct; I'm not a smoker and I have no intentions of ever becoming one because I'm too cheap! :p

Seriously, I've always hated the smell of cigarrette smoke and can't even stand to be near people who smoke. Fortunately, neither of my parents smoke and they never allowed anyone to smoke in the house when I was younger, although both sets of my grandparents did smoke at one time and so did my aunt, who would often do so in the car when I was with her. Nevertheless, I don't think my exposure was enough to cause lung damage...

uranus can rule electrical impulses....and its in the 6th ....it coud be worth getting looked at in my infant opinion.........the aspects to uranus makes me think this .....

Ah, yes, my good friend Uranus; I should have known he might be causing trouble!

Could just be muscular pain :)

I'm hoping it is this or something else less serious...

That's good news; is your stellium afflicted by Saturn or Neptune at all? I don't think it's the sign position that makes as much of a difference as the aspects, except possibly if planets are poorly placed by sign. I could be wrong, though; I need to research more about medical astrology.

Can anyone recommend any good texts?

well my stellium is

moon
venus
saturn
n node

and my chiron/sun/mercury are in the same house but out of orb.

My stellium only makes positive aspects though... to Jupiter, MC and Pluto, Uranus

does that help? :)

Neptune in 8th / scorpio does Quincunx my stellium but Jupiter also trines it. That's good news; is your stellium afflicted by Saturn or Neptune at all? Hi A.M.,

Let's not put the cart before the horse. To be frank, it may be prudent to first examine the type, length, and intensity of the pain in your chest before resorting to astrology to find a problem. ;)

Was it a one-off, stabbing pain? Did it increase when you inhaled or exhaled, or subside? Was it a pain of long duration, or short? Was it a crushing pain? Have you had it more than once?

These types of things are all important to consider, and mean different things in different regions of the body. For example, I sometimes have episodes of horrible, stabbing pains in the heart/chest area, but these are skeletal muscles acting up, out of stress. I never have more than two or three 'stabs' at a time, and when I slow down my breath and relax myself, they go away. They are much more infrequent now, since I know how to deal with stress more productively through hard, physical outdoor work (in a big backyard) and yogic breathing.

However, the pain can also come from not having enough fluid around your lungs, so they 'rub' against the chest wall; or not enough fluid around the heart, so it 'rubs' against its wall, etc. But you'd know if you had this as the pain is excruciating and constant. It can come from a small blockage in an artery or vein near the heart, or a small bit of heart muscle that's out of sync, or any number of things.

However, persistent pains, that do not go away, or get worse under certain conditions, should be checked out immediately, and really it wouldn't be a bad idea to visit a doctor anyway. You don't want to mess around with your heart/lungs, and if they're telling you they're unhappy somehow, get off the web and go tend to them! Age is NOT a determinant for heart problems; I had a co-worker who at 24 had his first heart attack!

If you have a precondition for heart/lung issues in your chart, it is certainly a wise idea to heed warnings when they come and tune yourself in to these things, for sure. But do see a doctor, asap, just to be sure, and eliminate these possibilities. Go to your regular doctor first, tell him/her your concerns, and get a referral to a cardiac or pulmonary specialist, if need be. They may be able to clear most of your worry with an ECG, especially if the pain was only a one-off.

Saturn, Rx in the 12th, as ruler of the 6th, may speak of something that is ongoing, however, so be persistent with your doctor if you intuit that something needs further investigation. This is your body, so demand the best attention for it. The Moon squares your Rx ruler Mercury in the chart, from the 3rd house, so there *may* be an emotional/stress aspect to it. But get a thorough examination, just to be sure.

Best,
AG:)
