The modern state of Pakistan was established on 14 August 1947, 9:30am, Karachi, gaining independence from the British together with India, but the region it encompasses has an extensive history that overlaps with the histories of Ancient India, Iran and Afghanistan.
The other important day in Pakistan's history is March 23, 1956, 7:05 am Karachi, when Pakistan proclaimed an Islamic republic in Commonwealth (Natl Day).
