Lack of Conjunctions in Synastry

I have noticed in the past when doing synastry charts, that there are usually lots of conjunctions when 2 people become involved. I am working with a chart now has only 2 conjunctions... both being Saturn on the other's Sun. The rest of the chart is chalk full of very tight trines and sextiles.

I had always figured the conjunctions were the glue that held together or broke apart relationships. And in this case, Saturns being the only conjunctions... a strong glue. I am wondering what other's take would be on this... Are conjunctions a "requirement" in Synastry?

I've personally never heard of conjunctions having preference over trines and sextiles to the lesser degree, though it does indicate the same underlying motives and desires because both planets will (usually) be in the same sign. I tend to watch the nature of the two planets colliding together in conjunction more than the actual aspect. I know who I'd rather want to be with a Sun / Saturn conjunction in a synastry chart!
