Fate....
Hello and season's greetings to everybody
I would like to ask astrologers on the message board if they believe it is REALLY possible to know one's fate from a chart? Some astrologers say you can and others say no, the chart is just a guide and you 'tick the box' you want. Then you read about the Part of Fortune and the Vertex which are said to be fated parts of the chart. Modern psychological astrologers are of a 'tick the box' opinion whilst medieval astrologers and those who still use these ancient techniques believe more in fate.
I have had a great interest in astrology for many years but become very confused when considering this question. I myself am wondering (and have been for a while) what I am Really fated to be doing. One side of me is very spiritual, artistic but I am also very aware that I need to earn a living and have a very stressful job. If I could, I would be writing songs and doing astrological charts for a living but I would worry about paying bills etc.
Also recently, I have felt as if I'm being guided/pushed towards a management position (I may just be imagining this, perhaps I chose it) The company I work for sent me on some management training though I had never considered it before and I don't know if I'm management material! However, could this be part of my fate? Am I meant to persue this? I don't know if I could deal with the stress, saying that, I think it would have to be pretty sressful to beat the job I have now (I was left on my own with twenty five 16-18 year-old 'very difficult' young people last week) I teach english and maths on a programme for disaffected/disengaged young people and help them towards finding employment/training.
So what am I supposed to be doing with my life? Can anybody say if we can really know from the birthchart?
I'd be grateful for any clues as to where to look in the chart to find our 'real' fate.
Thanks
Mia

Hey Mia,
I don't think this thread belongs in the Horary and Electional Astrology forum. You can get a great deal of help in the Natal and Predictive Astrology forum.
Also, you didn't provide any birth data or an image of your chart. Post either one so that the forum members can help.
As to your question, here's my personal opinion. I completely refuse fate and destiny. I only accept them when it is understood that it's up to me to fulfill them. Yes, there's a lot of things in life you should be dropping and a lot of things that you should be taking up. This is because, by doing so, you as a person and personality can do better for yourself and the world, not because "you're meant to do it". Is it possible to be "meant to do" one or two specific things when you are highy suited to pick from unlimited choices?
So, how do you know what you as a person and personality are suited for? By learning about yourself. Astrology is one tool that helps you learn about youself. Psychology is too. God and faith is definitely a successful path (in my opinion at least). I'm sure there are many ways that I don't know about too. Pick one tool or combine a few. Learn and about yourself, actualize yourself. Only when you start doing so, you can say you're fulfilling your destiny, whatever that destiny that YOU HAVE CHOSEN maybe. But whatever you do, don't let an astrologer or a psychologist tell you "this is the specific path for you, ignore the other routes". Not even a prophet should say this to you. Well, unless you're being called to become a prophet or a saint yourself ..
Again, please post your birthdata or image of your natal chart. We have many talented and experienced astrologers here. You'll get plenty of insights and some of them will resonate helping you with your choices.

Fate
 Hi Sorehearted
Thanks very much for your reply, it has given me much food for thought and I like some of your ideas concerning this question. You say you completely refuse 'fate' etc but what about those 'fated' parts of the chart like the Vertex which I have been told IS something we are fated to experience? Also, the Nodes are said to be another and especially concerning relationships. And what about Pluto; I don't think we can avoid experiencing that old devil if he hits on one of our personal planets!
Your discussion regarding the 'unlimited choices' we may have available is also a problem for me! I seem to be able to do several things quite adeptly and have too many choices! I can sing, play guitar, write songs, I have an English degree, (sometimes I think I could write) I teach, I think I could be an astrologer, I'm very good with people (my job is not just teaching, it is very much counselling too given the nature of my learners and their needs - of which they have many ie homelessness, drug issues, anger problems lack of confidence etc some are young offenders) However, it is a very stressful job and sometimes I think I would like to do something not quite so stressful. I think what I'm looking for is someone to tell me - 'yes' this going to be ok for you to do (ie, something not so stressful) and you will still be able to make a living from it. A bit of a tall order eh Sorehearted!
The way I see it is this. I can go down the 'going to work, earning a living ''normal'' route or go my own way and do the things I would really like to do. However, the latter choice may be an unrealistic one and may not be the one for me, for one reason or another. I think confidence is an issue with me sometimes too.
I was born on 28th June 1955 in Liverpool England at 07.05 hours. Just to add, I look younger that my age and most people think I'm in my late thirties.( My partner, a musician, is also a lot younger than me and we met through our music and write together, he's a Gemini and our Nodes are all tied in together ) I mention this as I sometimes think I'm too old to be involved in the music business (it's so youth orientated) but then I think, I could still get away with it for a while if only to perform my own stuff. I used to perform all the time but I think now I would like to write essentially and have my/our work published.
So you see I am a very confused cookie!! I just realised too, I spelt 'pursue' wrongly in my last email - not very good when I'm supposed to be teaching spelling eh...
Thanks very much for any replies and a Happy Christmas to all

Mia,
The fated events and the things you cannot avoid encountering are not so because they are destiny. They are inevitable because the eneregy related to them lies within you. I started struggling with my daydreams and trying to get real long before I knew that I had the South Node in Pisces and the North Node in Virgo. There was a point where I could have chosen to continue living in the dream world, but I refused. I started to relate to my North Node. I know a lot of people who have, conversely, disowned their North Node alltogther and are stuck in the rutt of the South Node. They and I alike had both energies within our psych. And each one of us made their consious or unconsious choice to go a certain direction. It was a choice, not fate. I think the Vertex works the same way. I'm still in the porcess of learning about it though, so I won't blab much. All I can say is, there's a vertex and an anti-vertex, make your choice. Even a subconsious choice is a choice.
Have you seen Dangerous Minds? It's a movie starring Michelle Pfeiffer. This movie has helped shape the way my mind works today. One of her lines when she was talking to her students was, " There are no victims in this classroom". Of course you must know the context of the movie to see what she was getting at, but the fact of the matter is, this is a rule that applies to everything from my point of view. And believing in fate that doesn't incoporate my ability to make a choice every step of the way makes a victim out of me. I refuse that.
You look younger than your real age? That's really cool 8) I think I'm the same way. I'm only 26 but everyone I meet for the first time thinks I've just graduated from secondary school (high school). I'm a Leo Sun native and you have Leo rising. Do you think the Sign of children is the one that gives us this effect?
Your talents that you've mentioned are all obvious from your chart. I don't see why they can't be combined. You can be a music teacher. You can teach new talents how to perform. You can do a lot of things. The fact that you prefer that someone directs you could be because you have a lot of mutable energy (including your nodes and verteces ). Also, the Moon in Libra is artistic but indecisive.
If I must point out a suitable direction, I can easily say that your choice to teach is well made choice. It doesn't matter what you teach, but don't fear to express yourself through your teaching. Don't just give them what the book tells you to give them, you know. Make use of your own experience. And should you choose to go back to performing, I'm telling ya you'd rock.
Cheers.
