Help with mid-life career change??

Hello! I think I may be going through a mid-life crisis or something relating to my career. I have no passion for the job I'm in and feel like I need to find what I'm meant to do and not waste anymore time! I changed jobs a few years back and have felt in limbo ever since. This year especially I have been depressed, and, being self-employed, have no motivation to even work. All I do is try to research possibilites but am coming up empty handed. Can anyone out there give me direction from my chart on what I could do that I would be passionate about, where I could earn a living, and make a difference? Thank you for your time! --- Dawn

Re: Help with mid-life career change??

Hi Dawn,
See you have got a nice name, stick with the meaning, why are you getting depressed?
Umm as per your chart, I think you should do something related to communication, maybe consultancy or something related to tour, tourism, trips, sales, marketing something?
Are you passionate in any of these fields?

Sandeep

Re: Help with mid-life career change??

Thank you for the reply Sandeep! Yes, travel and tourism intersts me. I was a flight attendant for 12 years and miss that, but can't go back. I've been in real estate for 4 yrs or so and was thinking about starting a business with real estate/relocation down in Costa Rica/Central America, but am nervous about the huge financial committment. I read someplace that with Neptune in the second house it's not a good idea to be self employeed. Is this true??? Thank you again- Dawn

Hi Dawn
Wow Cost is hot nowadays, you have good communictaion skills so be kind of a property dealer, or if you are fearing the risk, then become a real estate sales agent or something and when you are confident enough go for the kill.
I don't know about western astrology, i practice nadi/vedic astrology from india, and we believe that outer planets like uranus, neptune and pluto do not affect individual as such, these affect the masses.

Thanks
Sandeep

Re: Help with mid-life career change??

Hi Sandeep- Yes, that would most likely be the thing to do- sell real estate. I wish I had passion for the job though. I have about 0 passion for real estate. I don't know what happened, it's like my feet are stuck in cement keeping me immobil in any direction! I was hoping to get more feedback about my chart from others, maybe I need to seek a vocational astrologer!

Thank you again for your reply! I'll have to check into nadi/vedic astrology someday.

Take care-
Dawn

Re: Help with mid-life career change??

I would agree selling real estate might be the basic career choice, Cancer (corresponding to 4th house, home and housing) rules 10th. But for private enterprise one also needs a reasonably strong Saturn, it seems rather weak here. I am in a similar situation, in my experience the 10th is where you can get employment easily but not necessarily what you like (that comes from Sun dispositor and planets in the 1st house, there is Venus in Sag so you like foreign locations, Sag<->9th house. Also some "customer service" job with Sun in Libra).

Hi vulcan, very strange according to vedic astrology, Saturn is a significator for employment and not business at all. We also visualise it to be weak and feeble and a servant.

Hello,
I was considering personal qualities and not significators here. In some ways being an entrepenuer is being outside the rules and determining one's own destiny. Saturn gives self-discipline, the ability to balance the books, research the customer base, negotiate financing, also to some extent selfish ambition and cunningness etc. In esoteric astrology it transmits the 3rd ray of active intelligence and capitalism.
Regarding the perceptions in Hindu Astrology about Saturn (in my view there is not any "Vedic Astrology"), I believe they could be influenced by caste-thinking and associating Saturn with the lowest caste. However Saturn is natural ruler of the 10th house which governs career progression management, government etc. The 6th house is more related to servitude in my view. Saturn is also associated with black, and that tends to be the color of the "professional" suit+tie crowd.

Re: Help with mid-life career change??

Hi Vulcan and Sskohli! Thank you for the input! I feel I may have stumbled across a compromise that may work for me. I'm thinking about possibly staying with the real estate, but to perform the job in a different way that I have in the past. I think that combining it with Central America, which I love, and doing it in a consulting kind of way where I feel I would really help these people who have no or very limited knowledge of these countries, their language, and their real estate procedures. In so doing, I would get the ability to serve that I enjoy, the travel that I love, and it may reawaken my natural "real estate abilities" so that I become passionate in that field again! What do you think? I do understand how you stated my Saturn may be weak. I don't feel the details of keeping my filings in order, transactions logged, mailings sent out, things of that sort to be what I am interested in doing. I'd rather be out with the people in person helping them find their dream vs. balancing the books! Maybe I can just hire out someone to do those functions for me?? I do realize this is an important aspect of success when you are self employed however so I need to give it proper attention.
Vulcan, which type of astrology are you drawn to? I know Sskholi leans Vedic!
Thank you both again, great dialogue!!

Re: Help with mid-life career change??

Hi Vulcan
couldn't agree with you more...yes it's considered a lower caste and the thus the vocations related to that are predicted for saturn, and most of it is service. 6th house significator mercury can be very business minded and fast in his decisions discerning business.
Anyways that's my matter of belief..and astrology is considered umm the eye of the vedas or the 6th veda and thus the name vedic astrology, but still again, we hindus are very tolerant and if you want to disagree..its not like its gonna change anything is it

Dawn,
Your choice is very wise indeed, book keeping and all can be done by others, yours is shown as a vibrant 'on the field' kind of personality, go and do...find the results afterwards..
and like i said, your communications skills are excellent so consultancy is the way to go..
all the best for your endeavours..hope you do good..and hey let us know how it goes
sandeep
(p.s. i do umm Nadi astrology which is kinda advanced vedic or hindu )

Re: Help with mid-life career change??

Hi Dawn,

Using a placidus house system puts your MC in Gemini ruled by Mercury. Boredom is probably a biggy for you. Speak writing talking can also be of importance regarding career issues. There are some threads about a process of defining your career in the vocational topics.

The big transit happening for you is Uranus opposite Uranus commonly known as the mod life crisis, and Uranus is transiting your 6th house everyday working habits, 10th house I relate to reputation and standing in society. It may take two years for things to resettle again, but hopefully they will be of a form that can now support you more truthfully in your career. Uranus rules your 6th house so there is a strong influence in your career, or day to day work more specifically.

So intuitively you know big things are happening in your work life. Searching to find out what you really love doing can be a way of seeing how you operate. Do you like working with people or are you a loner? I would guess you like people as MC ruling mercury is in libra. Do you like creative activity or do you like a strong structure to your work. How do you find routines, are they frustrating or boring??

Only you know how you relate to the energies of your chart, it can help you give some structure to your wanderings of the mind.

I also wondered how you relate to the energy of cancer and its emotional ups and downs and sensitivities, is it something you relate strongly to??

Hope there is something in here you can relate to....

Love Light and Peace
Flea
ps I was born in 1965 and am going through a career reconstruction too, it keeps changing, and now I know about uranus it is beginning to get easy to use this time to experiment.

Re: Help with mid-life career change??

Hi,
well if you want to go through with it, the moment you hire someone it becomes a group and then it has a life of its own. So you need to make sure the moment is favorable. It needs strong 2nd house for cash flow and 7th house for sales and no particular weaknesses. Considering the focus it should be centered in the 4th house so it won't start drifting (like the case of an energy utility becoming interested in computer applications, Uranus influence). If you personally want to have a major influence in it even if it becomes big, it should be done when the Sun is in Libra (like Bill Gates a Scorpio controlling a Scorpio company). One thing to consider (which some astrologers find hard to accept) is that the exact time does not matter, the group automatically gets the rising of the nation it is formed in (for the USA Aquarius). I have a web page with some nation signs here www.geocities.com/cjjohans. One example of a strong (quite old and still a big player) American company is Western Union, Apr 1 1851, 8:35 GMT, 39N10, 84W38. As you can see the Sun (major focus) is exalted in the 3rd house of communications. Sales are also strong as it rules 7th. The Sun dispositor is in the 2nd. The only weakness is debilitated Saturn which rules the unimportant 12th house.
Offshore property is big business in the UK and Ireland so one can also study business models there, I don't know what kind of competition you might be having. Maybe a possibility instead of hiring someone is also a partnership with some more entrepenurial/manager type who believes in the business idea and who maybe also has some rich contacts/friends. (Networking/word-of-mouth is important initially when you can't afford any big ad campaigns.) And the moment the partnership takes effect is again crucial astrologically. I would also get some second opinion on the business idea as a weakening dollar could see a relative decline in the property value. As for my interest you can tell it's mostly "mundane" and financial (what I prefer to think of as group astrology).

Re: Help with mid-life career change??

Dawn, I agree with most of the replies--you seem to be on the right track with your choice of career. Jupiter, the planet of travel is in your 10th house of career, ruling the 4th, home, and in the sign of home Cancer. Also, your natal Moon is in your 8th house of investments. And Venus, the dispositor of your Libra Sun & Mercury is in Sagittarius ruling travel/foreign lands.

The issue now may be the challenging transits from Saturn, which is approaching a square to your Venus & Mars, and will eventually oppose your Pisces Saturn. On one hand, with transiting Jupiter over your Sag planets, you feel restless and eager to explore but Saturn can be a restrictive influence. And since Venus rules your 2nd house of money and transiting Saturn will also be semi-square 2nd planets, your career choice may not be financially lucrative for a while.

Guess you should practice those Saturnine traits of perseverance, caution and hard work, building a foundation now and looking for rewards in the future. Don't get discouraged if success is slow in coming because with your natal Jupiter-Mercury trine from the 10th to the 2nd it will happen. Patience! (not your natural tendency with Venus/Mars in Sag )
