Re: Your Favourite Films!
bittermoon, thanks for reminding me of The Killing Fields - it never fails to affect me.
Also:
Truly, Madly Deeply (with Alan Rickman & Juliet Stevenson; worth seeing just to see them working together)
The Piano
Dances With Wolves
Lantana
Gallipoli (the best anti-war film of them all)
Donnie Darko
and 3 Danish films I can never see often enough:
The Green Butchers
Flickering Lights
Murk
- all featuring the brilliant Nikolaj Lie Kaas.

Re: Your Favourite Films!
"The Horses Mouth" with Sir Alec Guiness
"The Razors Edge"...the original with Tyrone Power...not that mess of a re-make...and read the novel...most excellent!
"The Wild Bunch" Sam Peckinpah's masterpiece
"The African Queen"...in fact, just about anything with Humphrey Bogart in it...
"Being There"...Peter Sellers
"Dr. Strangelove"...another Peter Sellers masterpiece...
"Friends" the Elton John produced box office disaster that can no longer be seen as Elton canned it for all time...but Ooooohhhh that soundtrack!!!!!
"Slaughterhouse Five"...because "Nobody F***s With Paul Lazzaro"!
...and most recently:
"From Paris With Love"...Travolta has still got IT!!!
...and do see "Kick ***"...it's a rollicking good flick... [Kick A$$...there, that'll get by the censorship police]

Re: Your Favourite Films!
Fun Topic!
It's too hard to narrow it down! Below are a few that I will always adore, and/or that have left a lasting impression. They are lifelong favorites.
In no particular order, as my preference could change by the moment:
1) Millions
2) Hotel Rwanda
3) The Age of Innocence
4) Orlando
5) Like Water for Chocolate
6) The English Patient
7) Big Fish
8) The Mission
9) Amelie
10) Rushmore
Bonus Film and guilty pleasure:
The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover
Now after I post this, I'll be chewing my gum over the ones I left off. Oh well!
Wait...one more (Ha), Hope and Glory
There. That's my list.

And here was I about to congratulate Dave on his impeccable taste in films ........................
and to also mention another favourite of mine (which Dave - with his impeccable taste, and advanced years - will probably have seen):

...OUCH!!! [you're only making it worse...but thanks for trying to be sensitive...]
btw...just watched 'Iron Man II'...it was the one Marvel Comic I read growing up...in fact I bought and read them regularly until I was 34 or 35... I thought there were too many 'Iron Suits' in this flick...it was kinda overload on the senses...I think it would have been a better story had they left 'Iron Man' more singularly unique...I thought the recent movie 'Kick A**' was more entertaining ...and that story was very original.
...also saw 'Up In Air' a couple of night s ago...it stars George Clooney...a very good flick ...it's very existential and it's about relationships...all kinds of relationships...I recommend it [it includes a rather cute cameo of Sam Elliot in another role almost like that of "The Big Lebowski"....which I should have included in my top picks].

Re: Your Favourite Films!
The Remains Of The Day
Superb film, excellent book.
The film was very true to the book, due in large part to the work of adaptive screenwriter Ruth Prawer Jhabvala.
Worth seeing just to see Emma Thompson & Anthony Hopkins working together.

Re: Your Favourite Films!
...Has anyone said 'Fight Club'?...I dunno how I could overlook it...it's a piece of genius in my eyes and mind...and it appeased the anarchist the lives in me [...he's not a 'firebomber' sort...but rather 'one who loves to see a rebuilding process doing things the right way'...just to set the record straight in case 'Homeland Security' is still reading all my internet transmissions...

Gee pierce, I thought that the first rule of Fight Club was that we should never talk about Fight Club
And yes, I agree that it's a piece of genius.
