How wonderful to find this thread. I'm a twin (fraternal) born seven minutes after my sister. Astrology's inability to explain my sister and my differences has always bothered me. With just seven minutes separating us, that makes a two degree difference in our ascendant, but all planet positions and house rulers remain the same. Some astrologers have suggested I look at midpoints, etc. I have, but nothing has stood out. Nothing, until I started investigating harmonics.
I've been studying the 9th harmonic especially. For those of you unfamiliar with what harmonics is, it's merely the way you divide the 360 degrees of the chart. If you know what a square is, then you're using a harmonic of 4 (4x90 degrees=360 degrees). Harmonics of 3 (trine, 120 degrees) and 2 (opposition, 180 degrees) are common. When you use 9, you get aspects that are 40 degrees apart, and they're hard to just pick out of the chart. Computer programs make it easy and use a technique that brings all aspects you're looking for into conjunctions and oppositions.
Another thing to consider is that the 9th harmonic (9H) chart (looking for planets that are at intervals of 40 degrees from each other) is sometimes considered a secondary natal chart, or what brings you happiness, or even your potential spouse chart. I'm not versed in Hindu/Vedic astrology, which uses the 9H more than any other, I think. But when I compared the twin charts of my sister and I, I found our most significant differences.
Here's a short overview of us: I've been artistic all my life and now work as a writer. My sister is more social and owns a daycare. I've married twice and have had many nontraditional relationships. My sister has been married to one man for 20 years. My sister is currently estranged from the family and I'm very close to my mother. She is dealing with unresolved anger with our mother and believes she has been made the scapegoat of the family. We're both drawn to study religion and spirituality, read a lot, and tend toward liberal causes.
Now, here's the natal charts, followed bythe 9H charts:
In harmonics charts, you can't go by planetary sign or house placement, only by links to ASC, MC and planet-to-planet. The thing that stood out first is the t-square across twin1 ASC-DSC of sun opp mars both square uranus. twin2 doesn't have the t-square on the angles, hence her identity/ego is not as at stake in this aspect's anger/rebellion dynamic (twin1 also likes a good fight, while twin2 avoids them). Another difference, twin1 has juno conj MC but twin2 has NN conj MC opp mercury and neptune. twin1 is the long-term married daycare provider, and twin2 is the writer.
This is the first astrological technique that has shown a meaningful twin difference, though I have lots more to learn, and would appreciate any suggestions on further reading of harmonics.
