HUMOUR...how does it show in your chart?
After responding to Miquars interesting post on 'Earth and Fire - finding a balance'
It inspired me to know what you all find 'funny' and open it up for discussion on what kind of humour do you have?
Whether it can be seen in the chart?
In your opinion. How?
Also, how do you use humour in your lives?
I have a big laugh and loud, I think this is Taurus in moon
I have a dry sense of humour, Cap in mercury,Ruling planet. Cap 5th house.
I like to tease sun, venus in sagg.
Not keen on crass, toilet humour, you know?....Virgo Asc
In my view its good to laugh at oneself and I find it eases tension.
Also what kind of comedians do you like, and maybe could look at their charts too?

Re: HUMOUR...how does it show in your chart?
My sense of humour is quite dry - Virgo Asc, Venus in Taurus and I laugh until I cry sometimes! I laugh a lot at myself, and I find laughter eases a lot of the Virgoan nervous tension I tend to suffer from.
I think a lot of humour comes from the position of Jupiter, what brings out your Jovial side. When I think of Jupiter, I think of a fun-loving, almost clown-like humour. Jupiter expands what it touches, so the Jupiter laugh is loud and bold and highly infectious!
Put Mercury with Jupiter and you have two brothers egging each other on! Merc never really grows up.
Strangely, Saturn does have a sense of humour, but you have to dig deep to find it, and quite often, this energy is slow to arrive, but when it does come, it is a deep belly laugh. Can anyone else connect with that? It is dry, cool and off-beat.
I'm an Aries with Sun, Moon, Merc, Jup and Chiron in a stellium 7th/8th houses, and I appreciate comedy, as long as nobody gets hurt.
I don't like toilet humour either and I don't get nasty or crass jokes, or jokes about vulnerable people.

Re: HUMOUR...how does it show in your chart?
YES, Jupiter, "THE JOKER"
My brother has Jupiter in Aries and sun, moon, merc, venus in Gemini
The TWO BROTHERS you mentioned(jup+merc)
Hes a real prankster, for example, when we were young and we were still living at home. We lived next to a pub, and in the summertime when the pub had the front windows open, he would wait until there was some girls at the table near the window and then he would creep around to front and he had this fake, hairy, horror hand glove, and you can guess the rest! LOL
He also had horror masks, we had a long narrow bathroom and the washbasin was set back, just back enough from the door. So he would wear this mask and squeeze himself next to the sink, so you couldnt see that he was there from the doorway, and again you can guess!
He also has mars conj pluto, so he has a wicked side LOL
He'd put books on the top of doors, so when you opened them, wham!
He delighted in hanging me from the banister,BY MY ANKLES, over the stairs and of course feeding me mums spices, telling me they were lovely sweets,he delighted in seeing my face turn from red to purple, finally to green!
Both my brothers were very creative, and me very gullible!
Thankyou for your views

Re: HUMOUR...how does it show in your chart?
Interesting..
I have mercury in the eighth aspecting Pluto. Let's put it this way, I have a dark, satirical humour that not everyone appreciates. I mean, I have a lighter side to my humour (Gemini Moon) and I can be very childish, at times...
I've been told though that I'm an amazing impressionist (Gemini Moon, again) - and comedian, although I never really laugh at my own jokes, ha.

Re: HUMOUR...how does it show in your chart?
That's is interesting NeverSafe.
So you think Pluto lends a dark aura to your humour?
Makes sense!
Mimic, yes, my partner has moon in Gemini and is great at that too!
Do you have any moon, merc aspects as well?
I do agree the Gemini, Sagg axis is a lighter humour and childish, but
What kind of humour do you enjoy?
Political?
Life in general?
Slapstick?
Shock?
Dark?
You have to laugh at your'e own jokes......how do you know if theyr'e funny

I can appreciate this, I have Mercury trine Pluto, and especially now as transiting Pluto is parallel natal Mercury, as well as tr Pluto square natal Pluto, my dark, ironic humour has reached new plateaus... that not everyone appreciates, at least not at the time. Mercury is in Aquarius, its also maybe a bit to 'out there', maybe one step in the future....

Re: HUMOUR...how does it show in your chart?
Very interesting thread! Now I'm curious..
I think Taurus and Libra are funny.
Why, I don't know, maybe it's a Venus thing. Because not only Jupiterians are joyfull, but Venus loves joy and pleasure too.
People say I'm funny too, but that's Jupiter in seventh I guess, I can be funny and playfull in intimate or one to one relationships. My Jupiter is in Pisces and sagi at cusp of fifth.
I'm Taurus Sun and Venus, with moon mercury opposition.
I believe that aspects from moon to mercury can tell something about someone's humour.

Re: HUMOUR...how does it show in your chart?
I think Mercury is associated with wit, and how it is expressed. Jupiter is jovial, but the nature of expression comes through Mercury.
I've Sagittarius rising, and Jupiter is placed in the 3rd house, so people perceive me as a joker, someone always jovial. Even if I say something serious, there is lighthearted tone to it. Though, this isn't humour.
There are a few comedians, I've read somewhere, that have Saturn in hard aspect with their Suns. At least, that is comedians in the UK, where irony in the right place and time, can be hilarious. John Cleese is one example, he has Saturn opposite his natal Sun. Stephen Fry is another one, Sun square Saturn. This makes one have a strong work ethic, but I also read it has alot to do with dry, ironic wit. John Cleese also has Mercury in square with Pluto and this can really get to the truth, which is often expressed through their humour. Not sure if this is slapstick humour, or dry comedy, or irony, or a combination of the three. And I am aware that there does seem to be a different, from the USA to the UK, in forms of humour and things that people find funny.

Jim Carrey has the Sun conjunct Saturn (5 degree orb) and Mercury tightly conjunct Jupiter. The Sun, Venus and Mars are in Cap.

Thats interesting, his chart on astrotheme, his Sun and Mercury at in the same placements as me. Cap Sun.
Also Rowan Atkinson has Sun in Cap in the 10th house with Mercury there too opposite Uranus/Jupiter.
There has to be some struggle, I feel, in order to have a sense of humour, to laugh at what would otherwise painful aspects of life. The struggle results from learning experiences from transits such as Saturn/Pluto... Again, perhaps that is just my own sense of irony.

Re: HUMOUR...how does it show in your chart?
I watch a lot of comedies, read funny stories, I know a lot of jokes. I feel a need to laugh! I laugh when "there is an elephant in the room" and when I find something really funny I laugh until everybody else begins to laugh at my laugh. But my Jupiter is weak. How 'bout that?
I've read somewhere that Mercury trine Uranus (I have it) could make someone appreciate stories with unexpected ending ("The Twilight Zone"?) but I see that humour in general is based on a "twist". So Uranus is important for a good joke? Jim Carrey has Uranus conjunct MC.
Also Mercury is related to jokes about words.

Re: HUMOUR...how does it show in your chart?
I think that sounds pretty accurate about Uranus. John Cleese has his Mercury opposite Uranus as well as Sun opposite Saturn. A very quick wit he has, unexpected. Similar to Rowan Atkinson.
Their style, however, seems to be different from Stephen Fry.

Re: HUMOUR...how does it show in your chart?
I watched recently a film with Pierre Richard - "Le grand blond avec une chaussure noire" - and I looked for his chart. He is a funny person himself, like other great comedians. I also found the chart of Louis de Funes.
http://www.astrotheme.com/astrology/Pierre_Richard
http://www.astrotheme.com/astrology/Louis_de_Fun%C3%A8s
Pierre Richard has the Sun opposite Saturn (so some of the best comedians seem to have a connection between Sun and Saturn), Mercury on the Asc, Uranus on the MC (like Jim Carrey), opposing the Moon.
Louis de Funes has Saturn on the Asc, Sun opposition Uranus, Jupiter on MC and Uranus close by in the 9th.
They are both Leos.

Re: HUMOUR...how does it show in your chart?
I'm so glad this thread has got going....its very interesting what everyone has said!
There is definatley a link between merc to jup and saturn
I thought I would look at a definite style like slapstick, I was thinking about the great silents like Laurel and Hardy, Buster keaton and then thought about the modern day versions of this like Mr Bean and Lee Evans. And now you have mentioned, Jim Carey, good one Bubuza dulce and Rowan Atkinson,as you mentioned Neptune Rising!
I have looked at Saturn, and it does link in with all the above.
I'm seeing a strong link between Mars and Saturn, and Merc/Saturn. Oliver Hardy has merc sq sat, sun in cap. Stan Laurel has a tight mars sq saturn and merc sq saturn and a conj with mer/nep, which adds to the ability to convey vulnerability. sun in Gemini.
Maybe the ability to use props and the body as a communicative tool thru expressions and movement rather than speech?
If anyone is familiar with Lee Evans he has emulated the slapstick in the roles in film and his standup act, merc conj saturn, mars conj saturn.
Rowan Atkinson too, sun, merc in cap, merc sextile saturn, mars trine saturn and like Stan Laurel, merc sq Nep, and maybe chiron shows where wounds can be trasformed and used? Rowan has merc conj chiron, Lee evans has sun and mars conj chiron.
Buster Keaton has merc conj saturn, mars conj chiron.
I was thinking of Jo Brand, she is quite direct in comic stance, merc conj mars, moon in gem and a wide conj merc/pluto,she was previously a psychiatric nurse and often includes this material in her act.
Thankyou for all your brilliant input
Wher did Skillcoils post go?

Yes, uranus we cant forget the him
Robin williams has a tight conj with mars and uranus ( the funny alien)
Unusual humour, and maybe their humour is before their time and feels very new?

Re: HUMOUR...how does it show in your chart?
i present my humor in a jolly, witty, and sometimes, mischievous manner with a dry and dark sarcastic delivery that makes people very uncomfortable (Libra 1st house Jup conj Saturn both conj AC, 1st house Pluto, Jup conj Saturn both squaring Gemini Mercury in 9th). I think nearly everything is funny (Jupiter conj AC), even the dark evil stuff I laugh the loudest because i think that's the funninest (Pluto 1st trines Venus 9th).

I cee,
You asked:

I think of "humor" as being big, jovial, and so I associate it with Sagittarius ( ), Jupiter ( ), and 9th house. On the other hand, I think of "jokes" as being short, to the point pranks and the opposite of "humor" so I associate "jokes" with Gemini ( ), Mercury ( ), and 3rd house.
Analyzing humor,
Tim

Re: jokes and humor, to I cee
I read somewhere that position of Moon also defines sense of humour. I dont know about which planet exactly if not Moon.
I dont like any jokes which always seem to be sarcastic, making no connection with what a person really is. I like Scientific jokes and jokes which are really funny. Among friends, we tease each other a lot, we mock each other and call by names, make jokes from what we read in class, parodies, imitating funny styles of teachers etc. But i dont like nasty, toilet or too vulgar jokes. But if i choose sarcastic jokes, well, i am too good at it. When i laugh with friends, i forget my worries.
I have Moon in Cancer in 3rd, Mercury in Capri in 10th, Jupiter in Aqua in 11th. Taurus AC.

Hi May28gemini, I agree jupiter has to laugh! Lol. I think Saturn there gives an understanding of the hardships of human nature, but has a great knack of laughing at life and not taking oneself so seriously, although this could be a cloak of hiding whats sensitive underneath maybe?
I feel some comedians are great at bringing all of lifes taboos and human insecurities to light, including the dark stuff, which like you say can be the funniest because it hits a nerve in all of us!
Yes, Wilsontc, jupiter is jovial and childish and its twin mercury/gemini are irrevocably linked, gemini, jokes...interesting!
Sanaqua, yes the moon and emotions must be linked to humour, how we feel, what stirs us.
Scientific jokes?........I would like to hear some of them!
Would love to hear what comedians you all like that reflect your type of 'funny'??

Re: HUMOUR...how does it show in your chart?
Im scorpio rising with neptune in first house. I used to mimic people when I was younger.
I use humour particularly at work to lighten up intense situations(meetings - which I hate). I use it a lot to help with work relations generally.
merc conj moon in pisces at 8/9 degrees not quite opposite uranus in viirgo 23 degrees. gemini is 8th house which is empty.
I have even made doctors laugh when telling me bad news. So I guess self depreciating humour. tripping them up on the detail of what they have said. (so again intense)
I also have quite a dry humour and can be quite sarcastic - it can be quite stinging but would only use that in certain situations.
jupiter in cancer in 9th - I enjoy visits to comedy clubs etc.

WOW!! Thank you so much! That's absolutely true!! Humor is just another form of defense mechanism. I tend to resort to humor rather than other "emotion" because it's the easiest for me. I had what would be called a "rough" childhood and the environment were cold and not fun/playful. I learned to survive by finding the funny in everything to make life bearable. A lot of the time, people don't understand why I laugh at things. Part of it is I am happy, despite difficulties, but the other part is, I refuse to be bogged down by the reality that I face so often. Even when I "argue" with people, I'm laughing a lot. People often get thrown off or a bit freaked out that I can laugh at some really scary, taboo things. The Jup/Sat square Mercury creates a split between expressing what is socially appropriate vs. what's expressed regardless of social boundaries. I have Pluto 1st trine Mercury 9th which is a love for all things psychological and gives susceptibility to possessing a dark, mischievous sense of humor. Humor is a really HUGE part of my identity and how I present myself.

Hi caro, another mimic! Interesting!
Is that down to the moon and mercury conjunction? (My partner has moon gemini and loves to mimic.)
Self depreciating, a conj in pisces. A Neptune theme?
But with scorpio rising and merc ruling 8th, I'm watching out for that sting lol!
