Does Moon=mom, Saturn=dad?
I was noticing how both Saturn and Moon are in the 8th house and my Saturn is in Capricorn, which is strong and my Moon is in Sagittarius but is afflicted in the 8th house ruled by Capricorn. My mom was someone who was self centered and had issues with money and health and relationships and my dad was always the person that I could count on however he was very stern and unapproachable when I was younger. He supported me also financially through my life (I have Jupiter in the Second directly opposite Saturn so perhaps this causes it along with Venus in the 8th) and set up a trust fund for me...anyway it is just something I am thinking about. Does the strength of Saturn and Moon denote how the father and mother will be?

Re: Does Moon=mom, Saturn=dad?
I'm not sure exactly who = what, but I think that something as general as Moon = mom and Saturn = dad is just too...general. Moon and Sun can = many things in a chart at many different times. My thinking is that 10th house = mom and 4th = dad, but maybe using lots or parts will get you closer to which planet = what in your own chart. Recent thread about traditional ruler of mother here

Re: Does Moon=mom, Saturn=dad?
The planet Venus on many natal star charts represent their mother, esp. when it appears on the 10th house: in my case, Venus lied in Aries - the sidereal sign of my mother, the tropical sign Taurus.
For other people, the Moon means when they become parents and for men, Venus whom they will meet and what sign she is. For fathers, the Sun works the same way: it's close to the Moon (by 5 degrees) in the 8th house.
The Moon and Venus, are indicators of the type of women one person will encounter, relate to and descent from (the mother) as well the celestial bodies Chiron, Ceres and Lilith have feminine qualities.
On my chart, the triplicity of Mars-Jupiter-Saturn in Virgo (my 3rd), then Pluto in the 4th and Uranus the 5th came to mean a somewhat strong role in family history and ancestral heritage in my life, with Neptune in the 6th is my Dad's solar sign: Sagittarius.
And on final note, the tricky Mercury in the 9th house alters the parental relationship: Mercury is a double gender, of masculine speed and athletism (plus the god of alchemy), but feminine beauty, vanity and is the god of flowers.

Re: Does Moon=mom, Saturn=dad?
There are many significances for each of the planets, both in Western and in jyotish; also, in certain branches of Vedic (eg, Jaimini) the significances vary with the consideration of the relative degrees held by the planet: eg, if Sun is atmakaraka (highest degrees in a sign) then it would be (among other things) the father significator; however say Venus is atmakaraka, then Venus would be the father significator (according to Jaimini significances based on atmakaraka considerations)
Mainstream Vedic, however, usually applies fixed significances for each planet, which is the case in Traditionalist and Hellenist Western astrology as well.

Re: Does Moon=mom, Saturn=dad?
Vettius Valens astrologer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vettius_Valens chronicled the writings of astrologers who preceded him by over three hundred years and according to professor Riley's free online translation from the original ancient Greek at http://www.csus.edu/indiv/r/rileymt/...s%20entire.pdf
Vettius Valens advises us that:
Sun = Father .......... Moon = Mother .......... Venus = The Mother and Nurture .......... Saturn = The fathership of other people's children (currently known as adoption)

Re: Does Moon=mom, Saturn=dad?
In Nadi jyotish (a minority branch of Vedic astrology) Moon represents the mother ("karaka" is the word for significator) in night births and Venus represents the mother in day births (Vedic astrology consider Venus a day sect planet)
