Question Is North Node on 5th or 6th House Cusp?

Hello Members,

I have a question about my North Node location. Since the Nodes are retrograde, which house would the Node be entering into, and on what cusp would it be considered? Also, to confuse the issue a bit, which node should be used, Mean or True?

For example, my Mean North Node is at 14'37 Aries on the cusp of the 6th house, which begins at 14'43 Aries. Then, I have my True North Node at 15'17 Aries in the 6th house, which, again, begins at 14'43 Aries. Now, since the Nodes move "backwards," are they considered moving into the "5th" house, therefore interpreted more as a "5th" Node, instead of a "6th" node?

I hope this makes sense!

Thank you!

Re: Is North Node on 5th or 6th House Cusp?

Good question. Lunar Nodes are always Rx so that's irrelevant. But this is not easy to solve. When it's a planet I tend to read it as if it's in the next house, but the acid test is checking to see if it matches the native's life experience and I'll choose which house based on that.

But we can't do that with the nodes because they are past and future, and they are not moving planets but marker points in the sky like the ASC. If you believe in reincarnation and that the south node represent past lives (as I do) and you already know something of your previous incarnation from hypnotic regression or other means then you can use symbolism (ala Steven Forrest's Yesterday's Sky) to determine which house is the correct one by its fit to the story.

Re: Is North Node on 5th or 6th House Cusp?

Thank you, Horus, for your reply. Yes, since the Nodes represent the past and future, it is difficult to determine a feel for the best placement. Since it is said that the South Node represents one's innate talents and abilities, then it is possible to analyze this to see which house they may fall? However, since I have always thought that I have an 11th house node, I have not researched much about the 12th house. I will do so, but do you have insight as to what one's abilities would be?

If anyone else has thoughts on this topic, I would love to hear about it.

Thank you!

jc

Hi JC,

I don't base personal qualities or abilities on the house, but on the sign, and I'm more with the school of thought that our planets indicate this more than the nodes. The SN is what is outmoded and it's about the negative traits of that sign which need to be overcome or transcended. The house only tells where or in what circumstance they were expressed. The SN is read negatively, it's the karmic problem. The NN is read positively, it's the solution and its sign traits (positive ones only) are what need to be developed and applied to its house. ~h

Re: Is North Node on 5th or 6th House Cusp?

I'm with Horus in relation to what the Nodes represent.
We are born into this life with pre-programmed drives and tendencies - often not relevant to our current life, and even can be somewhat destructive. The purpose of the nodes for an individual (in the first instance) is to use them to create a direction for one's life. This most often means that we have to identify what does not `belong' in the kind of future we have to create.

Whenever I am in doubt about anything to do with the moon's nodes I consult the following website. You have to dig around a bit using the purple hyperlinks along the lower right-hand-side of the page, but there are some gems amongst her blogs.

Re: Is North Node on 5th or 6th House Cusp?

By Whole Sign house format, North Node (Lucky Strike Dragon's Head) would be in the 6th whole sign house, and the South Node (Dragon's Tail) would be in the 12th house. Although they move in retrograde, I consider their indications (natally) to be where they are, house-wise; also for simple progression, I always advance them forward (which I also do with retrograde planets as well)-in this I follow Charles Carter ("Symbolic Directions in Modern Astrology") and have obtained (apparently) accurate results when I use simple progression (called now solar arc progression)

Thank you, all, Norus, Ra4ven and DrFarr. It makes more sense, now. So, I will say that my North Node is in the 6th House, Aries, and my South Node is in the 12th House, Libra.

I appreciate it!

Sincerely,

jc
