How to respond to nay sayers

I'm all for live and let live. I never push my beliefs onto others and if people ask I share. I never tell anyone else what I believe is better than their belief. But when I am questioned by "nay sayers" of astrology I usually have an answer to their query. But one I am stuck on and for those that have a good reply I would love to hear it.

Let me see if I can articulate this. When discussing with others about rulership etc, and they ask things like "Well what determines rulership..who said Uranus rules this or Saturn rules this or Pluto rules this especially for those things that haven't been discovered that long?" ..

What is a good response to that. Who did determine rulership?

Thank you very much for an input

Theresa

Re: How to respond to nay sayers

More like, we figured out characteristics of planets and characteristics of signs. Then we put them together saying "Oh, well...Capricorn and Saturn have a lot of stuff in common...maybe there's a connection..." and based off of that simple "maybe" the idea of rulerships was formed. So, through time, astrologers have simply put two and two together, equaling a ruling planet for a sign.

It's more of a "Neptune and Pisces have a lot in common, so they're friends" type of idea.

Re: How to respond to nay sayers

Yeah this one gets me too. I don't care what other people believe, just don't claim across the board that what you believe is the one and ONLY 'truth' for all. We're far more complex beings than that, plus hopefully, we're growing and learning more which means our 'truth' will also change and expand.

Supposedly when mass humanity reaches a level where it can begin to consciously integrate and work with a new-to-them archetype, then a physical planet/planetoid/asteroide/ or whateveroide will be physically 'discovered'. The 'new' body in space represents that humanity is indeed expanding and evolving. Just think of all the new-to-us bodies that have floated into our awareness over just the past 20 years like Chiron, the female asteroids and all the rest. Exciting times of growth and change!

Re: How to respond to nay sayers

I have studied Astrology a long time now and have encountered some skeptics. The objections they have to it are either religious or scientific. They ask why I study Astrology, and I answer that I find it more useful than any other subject, but I cannot explain how it works any more than find the rope in gravity.

--The Structure of Scientific Revolutions-- by Thomas Kuhn is helpful. He is a clear thinker, and his book was something of a Trojan Horse in the scientific establishment. "Those who follow different paradigms live in different worlds", and they may just talk beyond each other.

Rather than try to explain Astrology, I show the skeptics a chart and offer to make one up for them and answer a question or two. Only one person has actually taken me up on that offer, but she was surprised by the accuracy of the answers.
