Re: forensic astrology

Yes there is a difference, and it is in delineation: the ancient Greeks did not use what we call horary, but a very similar approach called katarchic astrology, ie, "inceptional" astrology: looking at the time something started (its inception) and then interpreting accordingly. Later this idea of "inception" was applied to the "inception" of a question, thus what we call horary astrology came into being (I share Pinegree's opinion that horary began as a seperate, specific astrological practice in India before the 5th century AD, and then moved West through Persia and the Middle East into Europe over subsequent centuries; others, however, do not share this opinion and believe horary as such began in the Middle East)

Horary developed its own (varying) rules and procedures of practice (interpretation) seperate from event (katarchic) astrology, which latter is delineated in very much the same way as a natal chart: this is NOT the case with horary-the horary chart is not interpreted similar to the way we would delineate a birth chart...This difference in delineating a horary chart, as opposed to the way of interpreting a nativity, is shared by all "schools" of horary practice (although each school has its own tradition of rules and procedures), whether standard (traditionalist) horary, modern horary, the "Arabic"/Ottoman tradition (which is what I mostly follow and which I have referred to here on AW as the "Ankara tradition"); and the same holds true in Vedic (jyotish) horary astrology, called "Prasna sastra" (the dominant Vedic horary school) and the minority Vedic horary practice of the Tajaka school, called "Prasna tantra".

Re: forensic astrology

The various disciplines of astrology have independent House significations, although they sometimes overlap. In "Event Charts" we blend the significations of the Houses from the various disciplines, so that the 10th House signifies the status, but also the government, the leader of government at a particular level whether it's a mayor or head of state, a judge, law enforcement etc. The 3rd House is communication and transportation, but also evidence and witnesses.

A lot of that will depend on the Planet you're using for signification. Each Planet represents both a Person and a Matter. When looking at the Person in relation to the 12th House, you might conclude fear, but a Matter cannot have fear, so you take one of the alternate significations of the 12th House which might be criminal activity as an example.

It might be better to say you read an Event Chart in the style of Horary, rather than as an Horary Chart, although I think even in reading as an Horary you come to the same conclusions so there isn't really much difference, other than we ignore things such as whether the chart as radical and we might also ignore certain strictures or warnings.

Re: forensic astrology

I think if you make a chart for a crime, and if you use the time of the crime, or last seen time, or the time of the question, the chart will still comment upon the event, so perhaps you get the same info in different "words" so to speak. Im just thinking that because on the thread of the missing Kyron, several variations were used.
