Egg's Stats & Favorites

Helly lo, community! This is my obligatory self-introduction post before I get involved elsewhere on the forum, though I've said "Hi" on the Chat before, too. I'm really interested in learning the finer aspects of astrology and actively applying it to my decisions and life path...very pleased to see that there's such a large community of English-speaking astrology buffs, though I can get along in Spanish and Filipino if I have to; language is kind of my thing, and maybe the idea that astrology is the "grammar of the heavens" so to speak draws me more than it's potential as a powerful tool of self-direction...systems rooted in abstraction are very beautiful to me, and I'm really eager to begin to grasp the vocabulary of the mathematics guiding the stars...my chart info is below my ramblings of favorites.

So, I enjoy playing sax and listening to jazz. Some of my favorite artists are Eric Dolphy, Charles Mingus, Dave Brubeck, Paul Desmond, Max Roach, and Moondog (he *is* jazz, right?). Favorite rock artists/bands are typically from the progosphere, like Frank Zappa, Yes, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Tool, The Mars Volta, and King Crimson, though I also listen to metal bands like Between The Buried And Me, Iron Maiden and Dream Theater, but especially mathcore bands like The Number Twelve Looks Like You, Botch, Sikth, Animals As Leaders, and The Dillinger Escape Plan...at some point in my life it'd be cool to learn guitar. I like rap, too. The more shocking, the better (Mars leads my chart so that's no surprise), but I'm also drawn to unique and personal lyrics and progressive beats. Eminem, Nas, MF Doom, Jay-Z, Snoop Dog, Talib Kweli, Kero One, J Dilla, and Ill Bill are my favorite rappers, also any collaborations between the listed. Rap groups I like: N.W.A., The Roots, A Tribe Called Quest, Other artists I enjoy are Astor Piazzolla, Beirut, Aphex Twin, Johnny Cash, Mozart, Chopin, Morphine, Ryan Adams, Sufjan Stevens, Negativland, and Motorpsycho (strictly Timothy's Monster, so not exactly metal)

Love to read fiction...Haruki Murakami and John Irving are my favorite contemporary (still alive) authors. I really dig beat stuff, like Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac, and classic authors, like Hermann Hesse, Yukio Mishima, and Vladmir Nabokov. What knowledge I have of astrology is garnered from a collage of information from websites like this, so I'm not very well-read as far as contemporary astrological writing goes, though I've read William Lilly and Agrippa as well as other more classical esoteric authors. My favorite poets are John Keats, Basho, and Pablo Neruda

I love Quentin Tarantino and Wong Kar-Wai films, and am always willing to spare time for a documentary. Movies have always been moreso a way for me to pass time and haven't really had as much influence on my life as books or music, so titles don't come as readily to mind.

I'm open about politics and spirituality, and willing to discuss, or debate, most anything....uhm...well. I expect to learn much from you learned astrologers...or else.

Welcome to the forum GE. Great introductory post.
How true of a Libran to be willing to "discuss or debate most anything". You'll most certainly find someone happy to do just that...

Re: Egg's Stats & Favorites

Wow, that's a lot of music. The only band on there I'm actually familiar with and listen to is Beirut, lol. I'm actually crazy about Beirut! Might be my favorite band in the world, along with Andrew Bird. But whatever you like, I love to meet music lovers.

Anyway, welcome to the forum! Hope to see you around the boards, and probably the music forum?!!

I've given Gulag Orkestar so many listens it's sad....and yeah, it's hard for me to pick top musicians and genres, so I end up clumping them into a mess haha...though music tells so much about people and I love to share and compare favorites.

Re: Egg's Stats & Favorites

Gulag Orkestar is amazing, but pretty much everything by them is. The only thing I'm not totally behind them on is their most recent EP, Realpeople Holand. I don't think electronica is the best sound for them, lol.

I bet you've also heard of A Hawk and a Hacksaw, no? They've worked with Beirut, and are recommended with them often. If you haven't heard of them, you should have. Their recent work with the Hun Hangar Ensemble was great...

Have you listened to Andrew Bird? Most people who camp Beirut videos on YouTube have at least heard of him. If you haven't, then I post this video for you! Keep in mind that he's the only one playing this song. He's phenomenal:

Andrew Bird - Tenuousness (Live)

Admittedly I get pretty enthusiastic about music, lol, so sorry if I'm spamming this too much. I know this isn't the music thread. Oh, and I just noticed that today's your birthday! Happy birthday!!
