Lost Theories
Quote:
|
Lost introduces the 48 survivors of a plane that broke apart in mid-air, scattering them on a remote island somewhere in the South Pacific. Forced to work together to survive, they come to realize it is no ordinary island.
|
If you have any theories on Lost post here. I can't wait to discover the mystery behind the island. I never watched Lost when it first aired, it my was partner who was addicted to the program. I watched parts of it with him and then I had to go back and watch the series from the beginning. It's addictive, but it has left me confused the entire time (Uranus in Pisces).
I am not sure of the exact dates, but I think Lost began when Uranus entered confusing, secretive, and mysterious Pisces. And all is going to revealed around Uranus' entry into . I am not 100% accurate on these dates. Sue Tompkins says the last time Uranus was in Pisces it brought talking movies. And this time we have Lost ( ). Uranus in Aries brings startling revelations, new technology, inventions, and new scientific discoveries etc. And of course the most important of all: The secrets of the Island will be discovered and revealed around this time. I could be way off with dates though.
I have no clue as to what is happening at all . I watched the first episode online the other day again. And one of the characters after the plane crash scrawled FATE across his finger tips. I read one of the creators of lost wanted the show to have a very supernatural feel (Pisces) to it. The show has involved time-travelling when the island shifted and some of the cast went back to the 70's.
Any ideas at all? Some people believe it's all alien experiments etc, but I think the directors have specifically denied that theory.
Another idea:
Quote:
To summarize: our heroes never actually crashed; they are the future of mankind - the survivors of a cataclysmic polar event of which they are unaware; they are on the island to survive, procreate and repopulate the Earth. They are unaware of this plan which is sustained by a sophisticated collective consciousness and a group of scientists using electromagnetic power, and psychological techniques of reward and punishment.

I have read theories on:
- Destinies in loop, seeing your future destiny.
- A prison in the far future
- Another view was that Lost was like a chess game, and one view sees humanity moving forward, and progressing. And the other is that we are a natural error and will only cause chaos.
- Reincarnation theories
- Jacobs role in all this: Is he a savior or will he destroy them all?
- The whole mystery around women not giving birth on the island
What intrigues me is how John Locke was miraculously healed on the island, he was disabled before he crashed and then he walked again. A real Jesus Christ miracle, closely emulating Jesus walking on water . I enjoy the whole Science Vs Faith theme on the show and the battle between Jack & Locke. Jack heals others through skills he has learned as a Doctor but lacks faith at times, and he is a man of reason. John Locke is a man who has experienced the miracle of healing first hand and has greater faith in the Island, and he's having the best holiday ever there.
I think I am becoming more addicted to the theories now. We all love a good mystery.

Reason: I said not getting pregnant, instead of not giving birth. Rewind...

Re: Lost Theories
Dualism
I will be re-watching the series before the new one starts trying to piece parts together. Here are more clues from what I have viewed.
Locke was playing a game of checkers and he said one side is light and one side is dark. The beginning of the series brought up a series of conversations where the phrase "Everyone deserves a fresh start" kept coming up. Suggesting slates wiped cleaned. We often see flashbacks of the lives of the survivors on the island. Certain people were chosen for the island and most of them are connected in some way. Jacob has visited them all throughout their lives at times of crisis. It's still a puzzle to me right now. Lots of religious themes, and good and evil themes. White and Black. Chosen ones.
Here is a link on the theme of dualsim and opposites on Lost Wiki.

Re: Lost Theories
Mr John Locke
Hi Jerry,
I find John Locke the most strange character on Lost, and the the most compelling to watch. I did read that some of the characters were named after philosophers and great thinkers, like the John Locke of 1632. We have a Hawkins in the show too. Locke's novel about a feral child and his minds development on a desert island, is interesting considering the story 'Lost' is based on a desert island. John Locke of Lost travelled through foster homes as a child. I had to look up the meaning tabula rasa and it's Latin for blank slate. However, Astrology would disagree with Locke's philosophy/theory about being born a blank slate. We have our birth charts written out with set perceptions, which can perhaps be influenced by the enviroment. His theory is still interesting and being isolated from society you would be free from conforming to outside expectations, conditioning and education too, and live out your natal potential differently than someone born in a highly populated city.
The episode in Lost titled Tabula Rasa is the one where Jack tells Kate her past life doesn't matter and that they all died on the plane crash.
Thanks for the quote Jerry it gave me lots to think about .

Re: Lost Theories
I have just been reading on the Tabul Rasa theory in more detail. I wonder how they related it to the episode in 'Lost'. I assume they mean that on the Island they can become new identities, in the sense most of them can leave the past behind them, and start a new life. Some characters are happy to be on the Island. A sense of freedom from the shackles of their old life.
From Wiki
Quote:

The writings of Avicenna, Ibn Tufail and Aquinas on the tabula rasa theory stood unprogressed for several centuries. In fact, our modern idea of the theory is mostly attributed to John Locke's expression of the idea in An Essay Concerning Human Understanding in the 17th century. In Locke's philosophy, tabula rasa was the theory that the (human) mind is at birth a "blank slate" without rules for processing data, and that data is added and rules for processing are formed solely by one's sensory experiences. The notion is central to Lockean empiricism. As understood by Locke, tabula rasa meant that the mind of the individual was born "blank", and it also emphasized the individual's freedom to author his or her own soul. Each individual was free to define the content of his or her character - but his or her basic identity as a member of the human species cannot be so altered. It is from this presumption of a free, self-authored mind combined with an immutable human nature that the Lockean doctrine of "natural" rights derives.

Lost Loosely based on the Game Myst
Edit New Information -
I was reading that Lost is also loosely based on the game Myst. Here is a rough description of the game below, and see how it links to the series.
Quote:
|
Myst puts the player in the role of the Stranger, who uses a special book to travel to the island of Myst. There, the player uses other special books written by an artisan and explorer named Atrus to travel to several worlds known as "Ages". Clues found in each of these Ages help reveal the back-story of the game's characters. The game has several endings, depending on the course of action the player takes.
|
Lost involves time travel and we see a story evolving wit the use of back stories, as each character develops and the plot thickens. Interesting that the final out come rests of the course of action that each player takes.

Re: Lost Theories: Dharma
Dharma
I was wondering why the Dharma initiative chose to call themselves Dharma.
The Dharma Initiative is a fictional research project featured in the American television series Lost shown on ABC. It was introduced in the second season episode "Orientation". During the Lost Experience it was revealed that "DHARMA" is an acronym for Department of Heuristics And Research on Material Applications. The Dharma Initiative brought together "scientists and free thinkers" from around the globe at a "large-scale communal research compound" to conduct research in various disciplines, including meteorology, psychology, parapsychology, zoology, electromagnetism, and a sixth discipline that the orientation film begins to identify as "utopian social-" before being cut off.
A Link to Lost Wikia detailing the Dharma. According to this the Dharma initiative are finding a way to change the mathematical formula designed to predict the end of the world. The Equation (exact numbers of years until humanity ends) representing the numbers in Lost. Jeremy was left in the Dharma station entering those numbers for years. It seems the world coming to end features in the Lost series quite significantly.
Here in season 5 is an interesting video. The duality is here again one is dressed in black and the other in white, and they discuss humanity . The theory here in this video is that the one in black is the smoke monster. Jacob brought these people to the island and tries to prove to the man dressed in black that he is wrong. The man in black believes they (survivors) come to fight, destroy and corrupt. It always ends the same. Jacob says it's only ends once, and anything that happens before that is progress.
The great battle between light and dark. The man in black wants to kill Jacob. According to the video he finds the loophole. Taking hold of the dead John Locke and then using Ben to kill Jacob. He then kicks Jacob into the fire.
