Hello Star*Fans!

NEW MOON
ARRAKIS
CHART OF THE NEW MOON
NOTES FROM THE ONES

NEW MOON

Our New Moon this month is just coming off a trigger to Neptune. Yesterday the Sun squared Neptune, today the Moon squared Neptune. This is a sensitive period. The landscape is changing and we're not sure we like the new scenery. Much of what we are feeling is an internal contemplation. We're wrestling with uncertainty. A consistent theme appears throughout these alignments. Although the New Moon is normally a time of new starts (especially agriculturally), this New Moon initiates a Void-of-Course Moon phase. Just before the New Moon is the late lunar phase, right after the New Moon is a Void-of-Course Mooon period.

Sit on it.

We're not working with a full deck here. Neptune rules what we don't know, and the Void-of-Course Moon is a close cousin. We are taught in the western educational system to make logical, rational decisions based on reasoned assumptions. But if a body of evidence gives a biased picture, then, perhaps logic is not the correct path at that time. After more pieces turn up and we have a more complete picture perhaps we can better judge.

This month the New Moon (Monday, November 16) is at 24 degrees and 34 minutes of the sign Scorpio at 2:14 PM EST. This translates as 1:14 PM CST, 12:14 PM MST and 11:14 AM PST.

Additional information on many fixed stars may be found at Anne Wright's wonderful WEBSite,

Fixed star: ARRAKIS
Constellation: Mu Draco
Longitude 1900: 23SCO21 Longitude 2000: 24SCO45
Declination 1900: +54.36' Declination 2000: +54.28'
Right ascension: 17h05m Latitude: +76.13'
Spectral class: F6 Magnitude: 5.1

Arrakis Mu Draco, "the Dancer", is a binary star, 5 and 5.1, brilliant white and pale white marking the nose or tongue of the Dragon.

Al Rakis, from the 15th century Tartar astronomer Ulug Beg's catalogue, turned into Arrakis and Errakis, generally has been thought to signify the Dancer, perhaps to the neighboring Lute-player, the star beta (Alwaid); but here probably the Trotting Camel, one of the group of those animals located in this spot. The German astronomer Ideler (1766-1846) added for it Al Rafad, the Camel Pasturing Freely, that the original, differently pointed, may mean. The little star in the centre of the group of Camels, beta (Alwaid), gamma (Etamin), mu (this star Arrakis), nu (Kuma), and xi (Grumium), is named Al Ruba' on the Borgian globe, although almost invisible; but did not appear in the catalogues till Giuseppe Piazzi, Italian astronomer (1746-1826)'s time, except with Julius Schiller in his Coelum Stellatum Christianum of 1627, where it is the 37th star in his constellation of the Holy Innocents.

Assemani mentioned mu (this star Arrakis) as Al Ca'ab, the Little Shield or Salver, but gave no reason for this, and its inappropriateness renders the claim very doubtful.

In modern drawings it marks the nose or tongue of Draco.

Star Names, Their Lore and Meaning, Richard Hinckley Allen, 1889, p. 211.

Legend: Draco represents the dragon that guarded the golden apples in the garden of the Hesperides. According to other accounts, however, it is either the dragon thrown by the giants at Minerva in their war with the Gods, or the serpent Python slain by Apollo after the deluge.

Influences: According to Ptolemy the bright stars are like Saturn and Mars. Draco gives an artistic and emotional but somber nature, a penetrating and analytical mind, much travel and many friends but danger of robbery and of accidental poisoning. It was said by the Ancients that when a comet was here poison was scattered over the world.

CHART OF THE NEW MOON

At the time of the New Moon, the Sun and Moon are both a degree beyond the squares to Neptune. While still tight, the Saturn Pluto square was exact yesterday. Each of these conditions indicate that we're slowly coming off tight-fisted themes. The Saturn Pluto square was specifically explored in this week's column, http://www.athenasweb.com/2009/columns/Column111309.html .

In mundane terms, we are seeing the changes in the economy (Scorpio stellium squaring the Aquarian stellium) tightening its screws while Saturn squares Pluto (ruler of the Scorpio stellium) for the first of three times over the next year. What this translates to is that at the moment, we're simply trying to keep up with the bills we already have. We've waited this long, hold off one more day. Trying to force answers out of a Void-of-Course Moon can be a frustrating experience. If you don't mind not having things turned out as you intended, or simply want to build a temporary structure to accommodate immediate needs, fine; be my guest. Start it now. However, if you do want to have some control over events in your life, hold off on initiating new endeavors today, and simply wait until tomorrow.

Is that so hard?

Tuesday and early Wednesday would make things so much easier.

Re: Don Cerows' Moon Mail

This is quite interesting as the new moon was conjunct natal Jupiter in the 8th at 24'01 Scorpio. Both my furance/air replacement and my daughters braces reared up. I don't know what I am going to do so I like this idea of waiting I had no answer on how to solve this riddle.

Re: Don Cerows' Moon Mail

Thanks a lot Pierce for your analysis of this Moon. It happens to fall on my Ascendant!! I am intrigued by what this could involve. Asc. is 25°.28' Scorpio. In the chart the conjunction of Sun and Moon fall in the 8th house, in my Solar Return I have a focussed 8th house with Venus (ruler of 2nd) and Mars, (ruler of the 4th) as well as Mercury (ruler of the 2nd) in it.

Also Uranus is in that Solar Return 8th house and rules my 7th. Venus + mars square Pluto who sits in the 5th house.

So my guess is that someone in my family could die. It so happens that last week an uncle died and tomorrow I will go to the cremation.Nothing sad though, he was 89, good age. But Uranus opposes my Moon/Saturn conjunction bang on the 2nd house cusp and this conjunction exactly trines my MC and the Sun as well. Mercury, ruler of this conjunction is at 1° Gemini in the 10th house. Sun conjuncts the MC. I really wonder what will happen because this cannot be a coincidence with that New Moon smack on my MC.(and in the SR 4th house!) trine Uranus in 8. Mmm... definitively something to do with my family, close family! What I dont really fancy is the exact Chiron/Neptune conjunction squaring the New Moon. In the Solar Return Neptune conjuncts (26°) my Desc. at 26°.

Conclusion: New Moon conjuncts Natal Asc. and squares very tight the Solar Return Ascendant as well.

Sorry for rambling on like this, but I am quite excited about this and will let you know what happens to me in the course of the next 6 month.
