Medical Astrology Astrological diagnoses and other health issues are discussed here. Given that there are so many outer and inner influences on one's health (alimentation, sports, medication, past medical antecedents, state of mind, etc.), an astrological diagnosis is only one of many things to consider when determining your healthiness.

Re: Medical significators

I know in medical astrology hands generally fall under 3rd house and Mercury rulership, however I would like to ask whether anyone knows what are the medical significators of specific Fingers, namely I am interested in the index fingers, both left and right, in order to study two accident charts (or aspects to natal) with injuries to the index fingers respectively.

Thank you for any comments.

Is the significator post the perspective from vedic astrology? I've read of the houses being applied to physical disorders but as far as I am aware it is not part of 'western' astrology lore.

By coincidence this interests me as well.
My sister has gradually suffered from arthritis. She has Mercury opposing Saturn (no birth time), long finger nails but 'knotty' (witchlike)fingers. Mars (inflammations)in Libra possibly square Moon.

I have a 10th house Saturn in Gemini harshly aspected to only out of sign Neptune in Libra. My right hand little finger has become painful and begun to swell at the lower joint. I was taught that joints= connections= Gemini/ Mercury, so can place a Saturn and Gemini relationship, whilst the significator post stated that joints are associated with the 10th house. Interesting. (Have even googled the relationship between Libra and arthritic problems.)

The index finger could be associated with 'the pointing finger'...either in a positive 'giving direction' manner, or as the 'shaking finger' criticism applied in not doing as one should/ought. Logically speaking, this could address a Saturn authority influence, with Virgo as the discriminative factor. Mars refers to accidents, Uranus to breakages. Both Saturn and Mars were transiting Virgo recently, whilst Mercury is now in its ruled sign, Virgo. Uranus is transiting Pisces, thus opposing Virgo. Maybe there is a connection (no pun intended) between them all?

Re: Medical significators

Thank you Frisiangal for your post, it helped me draw some lines between the dots

I do not have any solid basis in medical astrology and no good sources either.
I read this tutorial on decumbiture charts: http://www.skyscript.co.uk/decumbiture1.html
describing a bee sting, and there I read about the H3. He assigns Jupiter to the index finger, as well.
Ayurveda is the only source I found with specific fingers rulership http://www.eastrovedica.com/html/ayurveda6.asp
nevertheless as already said I have neither solid knowledge nor reliable sources.

Seeing both event charts (left index 3 years ago right index now) compared to natal, I see how the connection Mercury-Saturn makes sense. In both cases, Mercury is Rx (now in Virgo, previous accident in Pisces). I suppose now I must find where the finger points to (I should have known - Yod )

I may have to come back with a decumbiture soon, hopefully though not.
Thank you again!

Re: Medical significators

Hi Vinyasa,
Tried to look at the Ayurveda website but it was consistently 'covered' by ads., so I didn't stroll in case I caught a cold.

I found this gem at Jotracey.com.au.; the first I have ever read regarding finger rulership.

quote:
For example, each finger on your hand is associated with a planet and the meaning of that planet. So, the thumb is the divine self, the soul. This is really your instinctive self, your Moon. The index finger is Jupiter and expansion, abundance, spirituality & joinging the thumb and index finder is the seal of knowledge. The middle finger is Saturn and the seal of patience. The ring finger is the Sun and the seal of vitality. The little finger is Mercury and represents communication. There are other mudras which work on Venus and Mars principles too.

I assume it to have its source through vedic astrology.

It's a start for finger research, anyway.

Re: Medical significators

Hi Lorielle,
Thanks for the post above because I was little bit confused while browsing this forum. I was confused in medical terms and their signs. I am very new to this forum. Now it will be helpful for me to understand the health and medical related questions.

Re: Medical significators

I shall add some additional "energetic" affinities of the zodiacal signs with componenets of the endocrine system. These affinities are based on indications I found described in an article among several papers of the old (1920-1937) Southern California Astro-Medical Club (one of the members of this organization was H.L. Cornell, author of the "Encyclopedia of Medical Astrology") I have used these affinities with good effect in astro-therapeutics, and, since they are not to be found listed in any of the generally available English, French, Spanish or German astro-medical literature, I present them here for the general interest of AW members:

ENDOCRINE/ZODIAC AFFINITIES

+Pineal: Leo

+Hypothalamus: Virgo

+Anterior Pituitary: Libra
+Posterior Pituitary: Scorpio

+Thyroid: Sagittarius
+Parathyroid: Capricorn

+Thymus: Aquarius

+Pancreas ("tail"): Pisces
+Pancreas ("head"*): Aries

+Adrenal Cortex: Taurus
+Adrenal Medulla: Gemini

+Gonads (ovaries/testes): Cancer

(*includes head, neck and body of pancreas)

Re: Medical significators

Planetary affinity for the veinous system in general is Venus; certain specific veins (eg the hemorrhoidal vein) are affinitive to other planets (usually Mars, as in the case of the hemorrhoidal vein) Venus affinitive with the portal vein shows Venus partial affinity to the liver (which is primarily affinitive with Jupiter)

Re: Medical significators

It is also known that veins fall under rulership of the planet of the sign they are in. E.g. Varicose veins would see an affinity with Saturn/Uranus of Aquarius; the heart area with Leo. The circulation system itself also falls under Aquarius. Yet the blood that runs through the veins would fall under Mars/Jupiter. Blockages would see Saturn appearing.
So it would depend upon which area one is enquiring about.

Hi Frisiangal,

I just saw this and although it's an old post, i felt to add the folowing for clarification in case you are still researching fingers..

The above correspondences of the fingers are used in palmistry (everywhere, not just in India and i'm not sure about the origins).
Except for the thumb, which traditionally doesn't correspond to any planet, the ball of the thumb corresponds to Venus, definitely the thumb is not associated with the moon, the mound of the moon is on the other side of the hand!

Thi is a link with a diagram of the astrological correspondences in the hands:

Hi again,
During a seminar Ingrid Naiman (www.astroheal.com) said that Mercury can also be considered having rulership over the veins (and arteries?) because they represent 'a tubal link.' Anything 'through which air can pass' has a Mercury influence.
If you are familiar with astrological symbology, look at how your Mercury is placed and the natal aspects it makes, as well as any transits/
progressions that may be occuring to/from it. It might offer some insight into a reason for the physical pain (Saturn influence?)
Perhaps adding your chart will allow people to comment on its themes.

Wow: thank you for taking the trouble. I hadn't really gone any further into the finger/hand astrological relationship (and forgotten what I'd once
written!) and appreciate the links you provided.

Since writing this the little finger became less painful. However, the top joint of the left hand ring finger (Sun?) started swelling and I now have a ' hard bump' on one side of it, whilst the middle finger (Saturn) top joint has swollen and hardened on both sides as well. I thought it to be 'old age crone' fingers setting in. I have recently been told that I have developed senior type 2 diabetes; a real shock to the system!!! Upon reading up on the (also astro.) symptoms it appears that there is a link between arthritic complaints (Saturn), acidity and glucose(Venus) content. I have Venus semi-square (= predisposition to physical complaint) Saturn!!

I thought I had handled my Venus issues well. Seems the opposite was true. There's the lesson in that.

Best of luck with healing all those troubles!
Yes, from what i know as well, arthritis can be caused or at least greatly aggravated by acidity, which in turn can be caused by digestive weakness or wrong diet. It can be alleviated a lot by changing to a mostly alkaline diet, lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, vegetables are best only steamed...

I have mercury conjunct saturn in the midheaven. at the pinacle of my chart. Also Pluto dancing on my asc. I basically have some sort of activity on every angle.

I've been waiting to see what the big deal with pluto on the asc is about and just realized that it is about my health I am totally shocked! If I had know that pluto was asking for my uterus maybe I would 've had the surgery along time ago cause now it seems that I am running into all sorts of other strange ailments. This last dance of pluto on the asc resulted in me being on a very light cycle for 6-7 weeks. The beginning of me going to the doctor. doctore recommended I have a partial hysterectomy over 12 years ago. My kidneys are achy, hypertension, tennis elbow, and veins are buldging and really hurt. I will be making a slew of doctors appointments in the coming weeks.

Please take a look at my chart and let me know what you all think.

Hi again,
Just because tr. Pluto is transiting the Asc. does not necessarily mean that, from the astrological perspective, it is representative of BAD health. Pluto destroys and eliminates that which is no longer functioning as it should and could do greater harm if left as it is. In this respect, it can be seen as life-saver, don't you think? Maybe the larger question to ponder could be whether you want your life saved (survival instinct) to continue in a totally different manner to what you are accustomed?

Uteral problems would tend to find an association with Scorpio, 4th house and Moon. Pluto, as ruler of Scorpio in adulthood, is well aspected in your chart. Venus-Pluto aspects are never easy but not always indicative of health concerns unless involved with 1st and 6th houses through aspect and rulership.
I would tend, personally, to look at the position of Mars (ruler Scorpio in youth), the adverse aspects it makes to the rulers of 1st and 6th houses, as well as its own rulership of the 4th house. I might tend to wonder what occured between 1986-1989 when transit Pluto opened the Mercury square Mars and made a multiple pass on 12*Scorpio, taking in the natal YOD between Mars-Venus-Saturn. If this time coincided with a period in which you experienced difficult 'mental/emotional control issues' in which you did not/could not act as you should have done, the initial seed may have been planted for complicated complaints later in life.

The kidneys, as well as feminine hormone issues, fall under the region of Libra. This brings in Venus contacts. Everyone has Libra somewhere in the chart. Not everyone has kidney problems (though everyone needs to take a leak regularly!) but there might be a tendency towards such a complaint if Venus/Libra have contacts with the 1st and 6th houses. Venus is inconjunct Saturn, ruler Ascendant and 1st house. Capricorn/Saturn issues have a tendency 'to linger on' and, over time, become chronic of nature. If Venus holds on to that which it might be better to release, Venus issues can build up in the physical body.

The fixed signs can often be found where there are (excess)weight issues, especially if Jupiter, the natural health keeper, is involved. A Leo influence needs regularity. Where this is lacking could induce cholesterol leading to eventual heart problems, yet Moon-Neptune in Scorpio could show strong obsessions and associations in cases of anorexia nervosa. a tension in gaining/losing/control of weight? Adverse eating patterns upset the natural balance (Libra?) of the bodily functions, through which the first signals can appear and be recognised through simple blood and urine analyses. With Saturn, your 1st house ruler, transiting the 9th house (associated with health issues) through Libra ( and conjunct progr. Sun earlier), these issues are now making themselves physically apparent to cause concern.

Imho, you have something going for you. There is a natal Mercury semi-square Uranus. Semi-squares are associated with predispositions towards physical complaints. Mercury-Uranus might be considered complaints with a mental significance, and especially as the planets associated with your health issues are in the 3rd-7th-11th mental-relational houses. Both transit Uranus and Pluto are aspecting natal Mercury (the nerves and veins?). Maybe if you can achieve a change of mental attitude the physical problems, if not entirely alleviated and overcome, can be helped to make life more comfortable for you.

All the best to you.

Thank you Frisiangal, help me to see straight. all I know is that when I go to the doc they make it seem as if I am falling apart at the seams. You are correct in "

1986 - 1989 were the most difficult days of my life. Crying everyday. During that time I wondered if I was having a mental breakdown. After reading your post and reflecting back to those days I believe I did. I have been revisiting that time period for the last 3 months, people have been coming back from that era and so goes the discussions. Thank God that Pluto will not pass that way again 12* scorpio, however I am concerned with saturn transiting there in the near future.

perhaps you can help me figure a date to have the partial hyster? my doctor only does surgery on Wednesday but so far I came up with Nov 21, or Dec 19. I would like to have it maybe in Sept or Oct but could not find a good date astrologically wise.

I will ponder the things you have said and I really appreciate your advise.
