Down Low on the Descendant

So many questions; so little time.

The Descendant is one of the chart's features rarely discussed. Why? No power or influence? Should it not have some sort of parity with the ascendant; a celestial a yin and yang thing?

I ran across one author who claims the descendant's tightly wound with partnerships. In a never-ending desire to know thyself (that darned Scorpio ascendant!), please, I ask the board's astrological avatars for clarification.

Also, is there such an important interpretation for the cardinal cross...ascendant, descendant, midheaven, and the I.C.? Do these points have a strong meaning in a modern or traditional reading?

You are right, modern astrology tends to ignore most of the aspect to the Descendant. However, it is there and its aspects are easily calculated by looking at aspects to the Ascendant:
- sextile Ascendant, trine Descendant
- square Ascendant, square Ascendant
- conjunct Ascendant, opposite Descendant
- opposite Ascendant, conjunct Descnendant

The same trick works with aspect to the Nadir. Simply substitute "Midheaven" for "Asendant" and "Nadir" for "Descendant".

Looking at aspects to the Descendant and Nadir reminds us its not all about us (Ascendant) and the outer world (Midheaven)...there are also others (Descendant) and our inner world (Nadir) as well!
