Lynda Hills' April Full Moon Newsletter

From Sabian Astrologys #1 spokesperson, Lynda Hill.

Any ritual is an opportunity for transformation. Starhawk

Rituals are important. John Lennon

Impart as much as you can of your spiritual being to those who are on the road with you, and accept as something precious what comes back to you from them. Albert Schweitzer

I call that mind free which jealously guards its intellectual rights and powers, which calls no man master, which does not content itself with a passive or hereditary faith, and receives new truth as an angel from heaven. William Ellery Channing
April's Libran full Moon falls on April 9 in the United States and April 10 in Australia. The Sabian Symbol is Libra 20: A Jewish Rabbi in a Tiny Room Full of Manuscripts and Books, Performing His Duty. This is a wonderful degree of connection with ancient sources of truth and understanding. Regardless of one's religious or spiritual affiliations, this degree holds that we are to 'do our duty', and to perform society's rituals in ways that suit your sense of center and spiritual conscience.

Keywords for this Symbol are: Faith in abiding laws. Inherited wisdom. Ancient books. Fundamentalism. Rituals, social or otherwise. Initiation ceremonies. Book work. Studying and worshiping. Doing deeds on behalf of the community. Religious services. Writings that reveal rules for living. Lawyers. Advocates. Hidden knowledge.

The Cautions are: Religious dogmatism. Sticking to what convention says. Losing one's sense of individuality. Overinflated sense of self. Distrust or hate of different religions, backgrounds or ethnic origins. Restrictive rules.

The reality of it is that many of us are in 'tiny rooms full of manuscripts and books'. These are our guides to ways of living, ethics, spiritual practices and ideals. Sometimes we need to stop to see how we're actually living these out. Perhaps the "books and manuscripts" take up all the room (and our space) and we've forgotten how to really "walk our talk" or commit to something really concrete in the external world, to socialize, to mix it up with others, or how to lighten our load to spend time in pursuits that are rewarding on lighter, freer levels. Being true and clear to our ideals, of course, is important and something to be remembered in this Libran full Moon. How we're relating with others is key to success now, as well (however success can be truly measured).

The Sabian Symbol for the Sun is Aries 20: A Young Girl Feeding Birds in Winter. This degree speaks of doing simple acts of kindness and thoughtfulness for others, even when times can be hard or sparse. This is about feeding energy to situations that feel cold, hopeless or lost. Small efforts can bring big rewards as you reach out to those who need help, guidance or a hand. We can "feed the birds in winter" in many ways; this morning I donated money to a dog shelter that looks set to close down. $50 - not a lot of money, but certainly enough to make a difference, especially if many people did the same. What's your favorite charity? Where could you lend a hand, give of your time or your heart? It doesn't have to involve money; making a pot of soup for someone, writing them a card, making a phone call to someone in need will fulfill the beauty of this Symbol. With the current economic situation, there are going to be many in need and we can all do our bit to lighten other's loads.

Venus is on Aries 1- that liminal place between Pisces and Aries. Venus sits on this degree for several days over the coming weeks: Aries 1: A Woman Has Risen Out of the Ocean, a Seal is Embracing Her. The 'woman' in this Symbol is finding her feet and her voice as she is hovering on the cusp between Aries and Pisces. She is finding a sense of individuation. Reflected in our more mortal lives, this is a time when many are reevaluating our lives, our existences, relationships, work, goals and desires. How are we manifesting our selves in our everyday life? Are we hovering between two realities? The last new Moon had this theme - click here to read about it - Venus on this cusp shows a similar situation; a pull towards the ways of the past or a leap forward into new territory, that of Aries, individuation, being more of a pioneer, prepared to take a risk by striking out.
The feeling of being free flowing is accentuated by Mercury on Taurus 1: A Clear Mountain Stream. This Symbol asks that, although you may get some detours and diversions along the way, you stick to a desired destination and work towards it. By doing this, you find the wind at your back and a sure course down from the mountains to the sea. This Symbol speaks of purity of thought, vision and desire.
Jupiter, the planet associated with abundance, blessings and higher teachings, is on Aquarius 21 - which is a rather testing degree and one that requires that we take a good look at our lives with a view to improving our situation so we can be happier and more fulfilled. The Sabian Symbol is Aquarius 21: A Woman Disappointed and Disillusioned, Courageously Facing a Seemingly Empty Life. Jupiter here shows the possibility (and the need) for breaking through illusions, facing stark reality with hope, overcoming loneliness and depression, counting one's blessings, looking toward the future. Facing the future with a sense of optimism, courage and joy can quickly turn the wheels in the right direction.
Uranus is on Pisces 25: The Purging of the Priesthood. This is interesting in light of the Jewish Rabbi being the degree of the full Moon. This speaks about not having those in your life that don't further you, to get out the dead wood, to eradicate those you can't, or won't, trust. This can be rather dramatic as people, jobs, homes or situations leave your life. As we know, often this is for the better although there's most likely pain involved as we adjust to new situations.

The lead up in the few days and hours before this full Moon can feel rather grueling as the opposition points to the Sun in the two days before and the degrees of the Moon for a few hours before full can have people wondering what's going on. The two degrees in question are Libra 18: Two Men Placed Under Arrest Give an Accounting for Their Acts Before the Tribunal of Society and Libra 19: A Gang of Robbers in Hiding. Analyzing relationships and how people treat each other can bring interesting insights. The full Moon will then bring a break in the atmosphere where tensions will most likely be released.Things may very well come to light around issues of trust, longevity of relationships and whether you're heading in the same direction.

Some tough decisions have recently been made, especially with the recent Mars-Saturn opposition. Saturn in Virgo may try to keep everything under control, but as Saturn is on Virgo 17: A Volcanic Eruption, it seems that the energy will burst forth or the truth will come to light. It's time for the things that have been subterranean to come to the surface to be recognized and to be healed.
In my writing I am acting as a map maker, an explorer of psychic areas, a cosmonaut of inner space, and I see no point in exploring areas that have already been thoroughly surveyed. William Burroughs

Uranus is on Pisces 25: The Purging of the Priesthood.

Well, well...here's some synchronicity. This is a sad story but it looks like it may involve the church, although too premature to say. The time would be ripe though.

Re: Lynda Hills' April Full Moon Newsletter

Thanks for posting this, PTV! I'm a big fan of Sabian Symbols, as well, although I often forget to use this valuable resource.

I just read a story in the news right before I read this thread. I decided to post it for the rest of you to read: A) Because it fit the Sabian Symbol for the Full Moon so well - and B) Because it is about a story that deserves being retold. (Actually the whole story fits many of the Sabian Symbols listed)

Re: Lynda Hills' April Full Moon Newsletter

Thanks so much, FL, for posting this link. How interesting it is that this list is now found.

When Tom Keneally (author of the original novel, "Schindler's Ark" on which Steven Spielberg's movie was based) spoke publicly about how he'd come across the `List', it was the spooky stuff of synchronicity. Keneally popped into a luggage store in LA to buy a brief case. Pfefferberg, owner of the store, and a list `member', asked him was he a writer, and Keneally answered in the affirmative. (Who knew? He could have been a stock broker, salesman, anything... Tom Keneally began his adult life in the priesthood, and still looks quite priest-like.) Pfefferberg convinced him to write the story of Schindler, and so he did. And what a story it is - the stuff that heroic myths are made of.

And a quote from Keneally regarding what drew him to the story of Oskar Schindler:

"it was the fact that you couldn't say where opportunism ended and altruism began. And I like the subversive fact that the spirit breatheth where it will. That is, that good will emerged from the most unlikely places".

Something to remember when all around us appears dark and just plain wrong.

Whilst admiring Oskar Schindler for being both courageous and humane, such heroism would not have been required if his countrymen had "done their duty" by challenging the policies of the Establishment/Government many years earlier..........So, which of these two very different kinds of duty is the Sabian Symbol referring to?
