Solarfire program imperfections

I have recently found a couple of minor problems using my solarfire program, and thought that I might let you folk who use this program know what the problems are. A friend who lives on the west coast of Australia recently had a baby, so I typed the birth data into my solarfire program in order to bring up the baby's chart, but the chart didnt match "reality". The problems are 1/ the changeover date from daylight savings varies with each state/year according to whoever sets the date for the changeover to normal time. As an example, a chart made for 6.50pm today for Perth had the sun in the sixth house, which would have been nighttime over there. (once the sun goes below the 7th house cusp, it's below the horizon), commonsense told me that this couldn't be right, as it was still daytime here on the eastcoast, and perth is 2 hours to the west, meaning that the sun sets 2 hours later than when it does here. So some tinkering with the program shows that the cut off date for daylight savings over here in Australia is programmed in to change over on the 28th of march. This year it changes on the 4th of April (saturday night), so while realising that the makers of the solarfire program can only go by the information received from the "timekeepers department", they can't allow for changes from the "previous allotted time" (possibly they can if you connect to their site and update any new allotted times, I havn't tried this yet). The second problem with the software is the way that it's often used , when doing a new chart for "perth" I used the "now" button, which gives you the time at this instant for the location that you are in. It doesnt give you the time for "perth" right now, it gives the time for "here" which is 2 hours ahead of perths time, so another false chart was created, showing the sun setting on the western horizon , which is wrong because the sun hasn't set here yet (eastcoast) and as previously explained we are 2 hours ahead, so the sun would be in the 8th house over there at this instant. While having previously been more than happy with the solarfire program, I now find myself wondering if there arn't a few more glitches that havn't been uncovered, or the other option is that my computer isn't functioning correctly, I might delete the program, and reload it again, to see if I can get a result more consistent with the external planetary placements.

Re: Solarfire program imperfections

I'm always having a fight with it over DST. What annoys me is that my virus software completely freaks out and deletes half the executables. >.< It sometimes shuts itself down without no reason, I dunno.

Re: Solarfire program imperfections

I've not come across anything like that myself but thanks for the heads up

I have had no problem with Solarfire, if I find any bugs I'll post them on the forum.
