Question on Houses/My Chart
Hello, I'm new to the forums, and fairly new to astrology, though I love the subject.
I've been looking at my chart, and I've been wondering if the main ring of signs around my chart is related to the houses at all? Or is that just where they were at the time of my birth?
My ascending sign is Leo, is that because on the outer "sign ring" Leo is at the 9 o'clock position?
Would this also mean that my second house (communication) is dominated by Libra traits? I understand the "lord" of this house is Gemini, but my question is whether or not the fact that Libra borders it means anything?
Thanks, and feel free to point out anything that looks interesting on my chart, I've been trying to analyze it, but as far as I've gotten is my fourth house. Pluto is in my fourth house, and I'm guessing since Pluto represents destruction and regeneration, it explains why my house is always so loud/full of fighting (as well as being heavily italian lol).
Am I on the right path here, what else should I be looking for? Thanks alot!

Re: Question on Houses/My Chart
Hi Eliminator,
Thanks for the effort of your interpretation--it is always nice to see someone new, especially someone with the desire to learn.
I'll answer some of your questions and 'guide' you:

Yes of course -- everything is important and related. It's not so much where the signs are, as it is where the house cusps and the planets are.

Not exactly. Specifically, it is because the thick line in the middle on the left "intersects" Leo; i.e. marking a degree in Leo. That's the ascendant, specifically and the 'rising point'.

The "lord" of the house is Mercury. The sign on the house is Virgo. Virgo fully rules the whole house, so no, Libra is not taking over; what you see is simply the natural order of the zodiac.
The second house is money, possessions and the things we value, the third house is communications. Virgo marks the cusp (division line) there too, so Virgo/Mercury also rules the third house, with Libra as its co-ruler.

Well, then, welcome aboard, Amigos.

Yes, the ring of signs is very much related to the houses, and, furthermore, to the planets that sit inside them. Visualise a ring that you wear on your finger, and understand the ring of signs to be the rings' frame, with the houses being the coating inside and planets in there to be the studs. Also, the signs on the houses are marked by the time of your birth, which primarily marks your Ascendant (Leo in your case & in mine, too ), and sets the wheel of your life rolling. A house falling within a particular sign will tell you with what 'type of energy' you will be facing that area of life (house).

Absolutely. Now that you have identified the house, the planet that is placed in there, look for the aspects it makes with other planets, which will tell you what other planets - placed in other houses - will be influenced by the strong Plutonic energy, and, thereby, their link to your fourth house.

However, within the tenth house, and this is the interesting part, I have both Mars and Venus.
|
You have only Mars in the tenth house, which could explain your "agression in getting the work done". Venus (harmony and beauty, also relationships) sits in the seventh house of relationships, a good placement. It is squared (challenged) by Mars, from the tenth, which shows that your agression at work/in professional or public life would affect your relations with others (Venus in seventh).
Like A50, I would also refer you to our Education board, where you will find sufficient material for some good self-study, as well as another easy website to follow by Tim Wilson.
Good luck,

Re: Question on Houses/My Chart
Hello again, thanks to all who aided me. It was all very helpful, and I took it all in.
I've been studying astrology all day (when I should be studying particle dynamics lol, but whatever, this is more interesting), and I think I've progressed more today than in two years of merely tinkering and reading about the Aries sun sign.
I think I'm starting to really get conjunctions, trines, sextiles, and all the other aspects.
My next question is about houses, I haven't come across the answer in any of the readings so I'm wondering if certain houses can be opposed to one another. It certainly seems so in my chart!
My moon, sun, and jupiter are all conjunct (for the most part) in Aries, my 9th house. While my Saturn, Neptune, and Uranus are all in my fifth house.
Now 9th house governs philosophy and thinking, and I think the sun being in there makes me a very active thinker/worker (I intend to research cancer), while the moon being in the 9th gives me a love for the emotional/spiritual side of things (hence my interest in astrology)?
However, it seems like my fifth house is full, for lack of a better word, negative energy, and my creativity is battling against my philosophy. I feel like its not personally, I'm a very creative person I write often and enjoy creating things in general. However, i can't think of how else this relationship between houses would unfold.
I was wondering what the general relationship between fifth and 9th house is, and how my chart manipulates that relationship further? Is there anything I can do to help "sooth" the square.
Thanks again for everyone's help! I understand that this all probably seems elementary to established astrologers.

What do you mean by "opposed"? Do you mean work againsts each other, at cross-purposes? Or opposed as in across from each other, such as the 1st and 7th houses?

They are conjunct, because even with a conservative limit for orbs, the Moon is only 5 degress away from Jupiter. They are all "separating" because the fastest (Moon) is ahead, and Jupiter (slowest) is behind.

The battle might come from Neptune square your Sun/Moon and even more closely Jupiter. I associate those aspects with being impractical, highly idealistic, attracted to "weird" things like astrology, and a strong attraction to artistic things. I have Neptune conjunct Sun/Moon (similar in many ways).

Houses are not square other houses. Are you mixing up aspects with houses?

Yes, this is so, and not just the case in your chart, but in all charts. There are natural oppositions between certain houses in a chart, for e.g. the 1st and the 7th, or the 2nd and the 8th, which simply comes from two houses lying at either ends of a 180° straight line/axis. If you look at the meaning of each of these houses you will understand this even better. Let's look at the 1st and the opposing 7th house to understand this. The 1st house is your own (singular) identity or how you identify with yourself, whilst the 7th house is your identity in relation with a partner/others, or how you identify (relate) with others. You can do this with the other houses as well.
Similarly, there are also some natural squares between certain astrological houses, though a chart might actually only show this depending largely on the house system used in a chart. Considering a chart, where each house is of a 30° width (Equal house system) to be able to explain these natural squares, the 1st and the 4th houses (and so on) will be at a natural square with eachother. Again, taking into consideration what each of these houses signify, it will be easier to understand the square (conflict) between them. Sticking to our e.g. of the 1st and 7th houses, we know that the 1st house represents 'me' and my own (singular) identity, whilst the 4th house shows my identity as part of or originating from my family.
Hope this explains a bit.
